i don't know if they come from seed....i grow mine in beautiful GLASS containers filled with stones and watch the roots and the bulb bloom in the house year round.
i don't have them outside at all, although, i see all my neighbors do...however, theirs bloomed only once, mine r beginning to "regrow" into their 3rd bloom since december.
Blue Amaryllis
I know some amaryllis come true from seed , I think it depends on if it is a hybrid (sp) or not,
I can't see myself spending that much on any one plant, but it sure is beautiful.
i hear you on that cat....but sometimes it just gets into ur blood...and you save up for it...instead of a tv or.....feeding the kids......or going to the doctor or dentist... something like that! LOL
Well said tobee43
i have always been a bit scared of seeds...perhaps that's because i lived in the really cold weather for over 30 years and to germinate anything is a trying chore. that's why i would rather wait and buy it as a "plant" or rhizome.....or bulb form etc. too much change with seeds...now i would never pay that type of money for just a "seed"...one wouldn't even know if it's the correct seed and would have to wait 9 years to find out.....holy cow and a half!!
I have issues with starting seeds too. I also prefer to buy bulbs instead of seed and there is no way I would pay that much for seed either!
and...actually...now in a 9b...some seeds i started did well other not...so i can pass...
florida has tons of nurseries with GREAT different types of plants and, as well, i still have some connections left from when i was in the "business" for those really "rare" and unusual ones i just HAVE to get!
I don't like buying seed for plants that are considered "rare" or difficult to cultivate, waste of time! I always forget about them and find they have a nice green film on top :) lol
I'm sure I'll spend that kind of money again, just not anytime soon lol well maybe on a larger plant, not a baby, that's why it seems a bit .... um.... uggh to me cause he's so small!
100 dollars on a crinum :) I totally think they're worth that :) Darn bulbs!
Me too!!!
LOL!! ok...ME TOO!
I just wish I could grow them in the ground :( I have to have them in pots or dig them up in the fall, it makes me sad!
Beautiful!! I have lost some during our big freeze a couple of years ago but I have way to many to not plant them int he ground. I do keep all of my SA bulbs in large community pots!!
