I was searching through plant files and found the Blue Amaryllis, it's amazing, I would LOVE to get my hands on one of these suckers but I can't find NOT one plant ANYWHERE, do any of you have experience with these or know where I can get one? I would pay obviously as this is a beautiful plant :)

Thanks SO Much

Have you tried contacting any of the people listed as having it available for trade? http://davesgarden.com/community/trading/search.php?search_text=PFPID%3A151652&showhave=on&submit=Search Some of them may not have it anymore, but it's worth asking.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I'm just waiting on replies :)

I remember the feeling I had when I first found a Tacca like 6 years ago, they were the hardest thing to find *back then, now they're everywhere* Now, trying to find this plant is like a repeat of then, only this time I think it will be MUCH harder. I wish I wouldn't have ever seen that darn pic!

This is a web site you can use when you are looking to purchase a plant.

http://www.worldplants.com/wps/finder.htm

I used it and found several blue amaryllis listed.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Those Amaryllis listen aren't the Worsleya Genus.

I did happen to find one small seedling available for 500 dollars, which is absolutely crazy. Obviously I passed :)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

lol I'm sure you did. I would too.

Jupiter, FL

Thanks for post the picture. I just located them on eBay and I put them in my " watching". I also put it in my on my wish list. :)

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I found some on E-Bay, 50 dollars for seed that will take 7-12 years to bloom

Jupiter, FL

Josh, Ebay plantaseeds has a 5 year old bulb. I would try to get it myself, but it is in Brazil
and I don't like to bid for stuff out of the US.

My ebay watch shows that one of the plants sold for $99. makins2000 is in the US and has 100% feed back. Looks like they got a good deal.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

94 dollars!!!!!!!!

I'll post pics as soon as I get it!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Oh, I'd love to trade with you, too.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

JOsh post a picture when your bulb arrives. I want to see what you got for 94.00!!!!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

duh..ME TOO..I wanna see a $94.00 BULB

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I will for sure, I got the tracking number yesterday, should be here tomorrow or Friday at latest :) I will post a pic ASAP

I do know that it's small, a bulb offset about 2 years old. I'm just worried I'll kill it somehow! lol I told him I felt like an idiot paying so much for such a small single plant and he explained that he spent 4,000 twenty years ago on an orchid, it kinda made me feel a bit better lol

I found another pretty rare bulb I would love to find as well, Griffinia. I lost a bid to it on ebay, I hate when people come up and bid the last second before it's over and beat ya by a dollar!

Josh

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

So I purchased a Griffinia Liboniana just now, 44 dollars for blooming sized mature bulb, that's with shipping.

so I've spent 138 on two plants in the past few days not counting the E-bay purchases. I've gotta figure something out, I have an addiction :)

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I was going to ask if you ended up buying anything!! I think you are in good company. I keep placing orders and worrying about $$ later!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I understand :) I got my worsleya today :) It's very..... small lol Maybe it'll bloom in... um..... 7 years?

I'll post pics later :)

West Palm Beach, FL

What a gorgeous plant! Your specimen looks very healthy. Make sure to post pics once yours looks like the one in the initial posting!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I will for sure :) I'm almost worried at how long it will take to bloom lol! From seed I guess they can take up to 9 years!

West Palm Beach, FL

Oh my, 9 years from seed! Well, let's hope yours is 8 1/2 years old then, lol! Nah, I doubt it's that old, but I hope you get blooms relatively soon.

groveland, FL(Zone 9b)

josh...you think the "blue" will have to have perfect ph...????? it's an outstanding plant...and the one you got looks great....just wondering since some of the pix look a bit purple....so i am wondering when growing if it takes anything "special" to get the true blue color???

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't think the plant really has true-blue flowers, they're always going to be on the lavender side of blue. All the pics I've seen of it have that lavender-ish color. Most plants don't come in true blue, so you'll often find things being called "blue something" when in reality they're more lavender than blue.

groveland, FL(Zone 9b)

yes, i agree...but much of that has to do with the ph in the soil....ie...hydrangeas...LOL!!! all my blue ones would be pink when i lived up north), because of the low ph in the soil...acidity is what they needed to be "true" blue.

for some reason i have always been so intrigued with ANY and ALL blue flowers...i just want one that doesn't make you take out a 2nd mortgage...LOL...or one that doesn't make your amend you soil!!

I know that this plant wants acidic soil, and maybe that in the game of things is partly why this plant has blue flowers :)

Anytime I've seen them described they call them a "Blue Lavender" or something. We will see in 9 years..........

I still don't regret buying this plant, but never, ever again will I spend that :)

groveland, FL(Zone 9b)

well...i'm certainly NOT One to talk about what to spend.....like my ae ae and other variegated musa....SHAME on ME!!

but BLUE...o my....it's so hard to resist...and i'm sure you will not have to wait the 9 years to see a bloom!!!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Hydrangeas are rather unique in the way their flower color changes as a response to soil pH. That is not going to be the case with the majority of other plants, so I while this plant may be happier and grow better in acidic soil I wouldn't expect the pH to impact the flower color significantly.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Josh your really think never again? I am on a wait list for some crinum that are selling for $100.00 per bulb!!!

(Cathy), MO

Does anyone know if amaryllis come true from seed?

groveland, FL(Zone 9b)

lol....man o man.....now that's something i would do too!!

ecrane3....being from the bay area originally, and just getting back from there NOTHING effects the beauty and color of the plants out there!! the colors were brilliant in all plants...not like what the extreme heat or soil conditions do in other places in the county.

however, in the northeast we had the hardier blue tree rose of sharon a hardy hibiscus, and it too, was effected by the soil conditions...go figure!

i most certainly went thru horticulture shock moving from san fran to the north east and now from the north east to the HOT south!!!
