More Ads coming!

American Canyon, CA(Zone 9a)

I work at a family run, neighborhood nursery. Today the owner received a follow-up call from Daves Garden wanting the nursery to advertise with them. They had received some other information via email or snail mail, not sure which. Anyhow I showed the owner the site as he had not been here before. He proceeded to show and tell me about how they are going to be totally reformatting it and making the ads larger (taking up the entire right hand column) and more invasive.....according to the rep who was trying to sell him on buying the ad.

Will this be for paid members as well non paid? I am sad to see this happening to my favorite gardening site.

BTW, the price was so high that he opted out.

As long as they allow subscribers to turn off ads you wouldn't have to see any of that. Early on I believe they said they weren't planning to change that feature, although I may be remembering wrong (or they could of course change their minds at some point in the future)

My understanding is the ads will be like the Top Watchdog ads, in the same space. They are in a prominent spot, but they are very targeted to gardeners. And subscribers still have the option of turning them off.

I liked the top watchdog ads--I was hoping those would come back! I turn off the other ads but I always liked those.

I miss those top watchdog ads too and would love to see them come back.
I also turn off the other ads but those top watchdog ads were very helpful
and I did purchase through them.

The company that did the original ads has gone out of business, so the sales team has been looking hard for someone to replace them, with the same type of high-quality ads.

Terry,
I think the key word here with subscribers is "high quality." I would add "tasteful," which has always been a trait of the Top Watchdog ads. I am usually an advertiser's nightmare (don't call me, I'll call you) but those ads were alwtays enticing and in very good taste. I would love to see them return in a similar format.

Thanks all for, I feel better about the upcoming changes. Also, I did not even realize we could turn off the ads at all until ecrane pointed it out on here..lol...I am now ad free!

i agree on those ads. they were direct and to the point. you want it or you don't. click or not.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Yep, the Top Watchdog ads were great and I really miss them. Hope they find a new company to do them soon!

Ok, I changed my mind on the ads, bring back the top watchdog ones...I want to see them now...lol!
