mnorberry That looks like my Pink Giant. The flowers were smaller than I expected and it was short the first year, but taller this year. Maybe 40" now.

oh boy!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Poor Double Sensation! I wonder what went wrong.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

It looks like it is really hot where you live. Maybe the buds got cooked.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

I would think so pard, but it's been blooming for a while and it has only gotten really hot this week. All the blooms have looked like this and none of my other lilies have shown anything similar.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

When it first opened did it have that "color break" seen in that top petal of the closest bloom? Which way is south (hottest direction of direct sun)? I'm guessing sort of to the left in the photo, judging by the scorched petals. Color breaking virus generally doesn't distort the petals.

I had to image google to see what it is supposed to look like. Apparently, that inner ring of petals should have somewhat crinkled edges.

I would would like to see more postings of this lily, grown by others. Maybe we could get it figured out.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

It did have the color break that you see. Every bud has opened distorted like that. I guess I kept hoping that it would sort of work things out, lol! Actually, the sun is to the front of the bloom. I would think that if it were sun damage that the petals up front and center would be the most affected.
Here's a link to Hallson's site that shows the expected bloom.

According to the photo on Hallson's, it should have a lot more red, which takes my thinking back to color breaking virus, which is a bad thing.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

That's the only explanation that I've come across unfortunately. I suppose that I'll go ahead and remove them before it spreads.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wicker - sorry for the delay in responding. Comcast crashed last night and I'm in the library.

I went out and looked at Hiawatha and you know, I think cherry red - dark cherry red, describes it very well.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks Donna. Hope you get your cable back soon!

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Oh, and thanks for the help Connie:))

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

You're welcome. Don't you just hate making that decision? I didn't have any problem with my decision to dig and toss this one (and there were 5 or 6 divisions of it) :-(

A shame...Such a nice color of red.

I posted that pic on the co-op thread where the lily was purchased and someone else posted a pic of the same variety that looked similar. I'm thinking that we should let the vendor know.

Looks like I have the same thing going on with my Double Sensation. I bought mine from Bert... is that where you got yours from..... and do you know if they honor the bulbs if they are virused?

Yes I did get it from Bert. Haven't seen him on the co-op thread. Maybe we should email him. I'd love to get something else.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

I would too... naturally..lol.. but I have a friend that he never even replied to on some that weren't what she had ordered, so i kinda figured he might not respond to "problems". I have gotten many nice things from Bert, but many were wrong, and I didn't let it bother me too much, cause the prices were good, and I'm not too paranoid about having "labeled" plants... just pretties are good enough for me, but a virus really bothers me... maybe it shouldn't... I know it can happen to anyone.

Guess it won't hurt to find out.. right?

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Nothing ventured, I suppose. I figure that they should be alerted at any rate. I'm not really going to go bananas if things are mislabled either, but don't want to let viruses spread to other plants.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Right... I just mailed him so we'll see. Yeah I am the same way about the viruses... That worries me big time!! Talked to a friend and hers are ok... from the same order??!! Weird! I would have thought all of them would have been virused... I better google and learn more about this

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks for doing that. I would have thought that they'd all be the same, too.
