Peach leaf bluebells
What is in full bloom now? JUNE 16 - JUNE 30 2010
Monkshood 'Stainless Steel' is my earliest aconitum to bloom. I also have a 'Henryi Spark' which I struggle to place - it flops over in my eastern exposure garden, I guess wanting more sun. I moved it to a spot that gets pretty strong southwestern sun, although shaded in late afternoon and it is growing sideways there as well, trying to reach the sun. I thought this was a part-shade plant. This one seems to either want full sun or is too weak to stand on its own feet (in which case it will get ditched). Does anyone else have this cultivar, and if so, what does it want?
Love the monkshood. I've never grown it. Give it a little staking.
And an orangey daylily that was here when we moved in. It's not in a lot of sun so doesn't really bloom profusely but it's pretty in the spot it's in and is a large plant so must like it's location. Altho it doesn't seem to ever get any bigger. All the millions of daylilies I planted are still small and very short, even the ones in good sun that get way more water than this one ever did. But I do have some buds on them, so hopefully they'll be pretty. I'm planning to move a lot of them to see if I can find a location they'll be happier in.

Its a bloom'n time of year. Didn't take long for this thread to get long also!
I went looking for my Solomon's Seal Katie59 and am I ever glad I did. It was so overgrown It may not survive.
There is a small on to the side, which I have rescued but it won't be blooming this yr. I will take care of it some and maybe next year we can enjoy it again.
ENH - good thing you checked on it. What is your biggest plant pest that is competing with it? I have tons of Ranunculus repens . . . .
Love love love the blue clematis with the pink rose.
Of all the poppy seeds I planted, I got 2 that grew and they bloomed a few days ago. Both were pink. Very pretty, but would have liked to have seen the tangerine. I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions?
Very pretty pictures everyone.
Yeah! It's flower time at last! I love the multiple shades of green, but was really ready for some color!
Willow, your flowers are beautiful. I love the beginning of the kalmia... can't wait to see it full open. Your NOID shrub rose is beautiful too... that is my favorite rose form.
Bonehead, I have not had a lot of success with any of the monkshood varieties, but Mom has a few and they really need to be staked in our area. All of hers are in shade, and are quite happy there with a little support.
Pony, your yellow and orange NOID daylily is Frans Halls. Pretty... mine aren't even close to blooming yet. You have a lot of color going on in your yard right now.
Gwen, I really like the sage/geranium combo. I am excited about the sage that you shared, and I have a surplus of blue geraniums so I may just have to be a copy-cat!
Bea, your pink pretties are wonderful! I love love love that clem. Is it the one that you posted a single of about a month ago? It is very similar to Asao that I just bought. You should be happy that your painted daisies come back at all... I just can't grow them (yeah, broken record...slugs....slugs...slugs), and if I get one to actually bloom it is always one of the ugly colors. Your pink is wonderful!
Jan, I haven't had a lot of luck direct seeding poppies, and I am wondering if I am doing it at the wrong time. Mother nature does it right after they bloom (mid summer), so I might try that this year and see if it makes a difference.
I haven't had a chance to walk my yard for a couple of weeks, so am looking forward to that opportunity this weekend. Trust me, I will have camera in hand. I have enjoyed the foxglove and rose show out of my laundry room window though... The roses don't stand close inspection, but from a distance they are very colorful....
Frans Halls... well, the colors are certainly right. The shape of the flower looks a wee bit different to me, but I guess that can vary a little, huh? Thanks for the ID, Julie! :)
Pony, You will find that daylilies are chameleons in both shape and color from one day to the next. Also, our flowers sometimes differ greatly from those that are grown in warmer areas in both shape and coloring depending on the weather for the week or so before the flower opens. See what it does as the season progresses before you take my word for it, but there are not very many bi-color daylilies in that color scheme so I am pretty sure that's him. This was mine in a hot week in July....
Oh, I'll take your word for it, Daylily Queen. I reckon if anybody would know, it's you. I already updated the photos on my computer with the name. :)
Pretty dianthus Pony. Does it smell as good as it looks?
I had a quick chance to walk some of the yard last night before I got dragged away to a friends house for dinner, and I was amazed at how much color there is all of the sudden. I am just itching to get out there this morning and start putting order to some of the chaos that is my yard this year, but wanted to have at least a cup of coffee first, so I will share a couple of things that caught my eye last night.
This is one of my very favorite roses "Playboy". It's colors are fabulous, and while so many of my roses are almost leafless right now due to blackspot, look at the foilage on this baby!
I have a love/hate relationship with Sweet William. It is so pretty, but then gets soooooo gangly and is really hard to work around. I have pulled it from almost every bed, but have let this bed go crazy because it is at the edge of my woodland shade garden, so anything that I plant there has to be ultra slug-resistant and these fit the bill. This is the time of year that I wonder why I ever thought of getting rid of them.....
I had a bed where Sweet William used to come up, under a big old tree, but every year it was less and less and I don't think any came up this year at all. :(
My styrex japonica, japanese snowbell, is in full glory. It smells great. Eventually I hope the one side will come above the bench so you can sit there under it and be immersed. And on the other side, where I've planted peonies, I hope those peonies will get huge and it should make for a nice display
