duc...how cool to see the grebes doing their dance!!
Today was a good day here! First thing I found on my morning walk was Gray Catbird fledgling! This is the first time I have ever seen one. I can't wait for them to show up here in the yard. It was so cute!
DAILY PICS VOL. 330
Duc...those Crows are something else, really nice shots of them!
Nanny...you're are so lucky to see all those juvies and I have never seen a Towhee at the feeder! What the heck are you feeding those birds?!!
LivelyLady...welcome to the Bird Forum.
This Robin spends most of his time getting worms out of the flower beds!
Great shot your your grandchild & frogs! Love it!
Oh those Blue babies taking a bath is tooo cute Rose!
Great shot there Red!
Ya know the funny thing was on Tuesday evening the towhee was out there scratching a roun on the the ground and I thouhgt ...gee they ought to check out the platform...more seeds up there. So what do you know but Wednesday evening there it is up in the feeder!! I couldn't get the camera fast enough for a photo.
There I was out in the back yard this morning and there he was just a pretty as you please! It does leave if too many other birds come in, but I thought it was very cool! Plus I got some really good pics of him!
Just plain ole BOSS seed on one side and Safflower on the other is in the feeder.
Cleared for take off...
I so miss the tohees. They were here 30 yrs ago & have disappeared. We have been enjoying the red bellied wood peckers.
Nanny, Love the Towhee!
Rose, So cute of your baby Blues!
Bea, Good ones of the Waxwings!
Red, Sweet pic!!
I missed those Towhees down here too, Iris. They There were here in early spring, but apparently have migrated North. Ditto to what Pelle's has stated above. Awwww, those babies Blues in the bath is wonderful to see Rose.
Thanks to our forum here, I've learned of so many new birds. And can even differentiate between the species. Here I've a pair of common Crows (not the Fish Crows) visited my Yoshino Cherry tree yesterday during the heat of the day.

A pic from yesterday morning of the two hatchlings from the BB's second brood. I'm in TX now, so won't see them for a week or so. Not a lot of birds around my dau's home, but she does have a few since we put up feeders. Definitely has a grackle problem. We may go over to Heard Nature Center one day. Lots of water birds in there. If so, I'll get some pics.
Red, have a wonderful time in Tx and family. BTW, the bird with the two frogs above is the most beautiful picture I've came across. I'll be looking forward to more of your pictures later.
Red both of your shots are precious but the one with the grand is priceless! Have a great time visiting in Tx!
Love the Towhee, Waxwings and Crows. I see and hear a Towhee every day when I walk the dogs but don't carry the camera with me...he is very vocal though. Lily...that water looks so refreshing especially with our over 90 degree temps.
The birds love to perch on this decorative bird house!
Lively Lady, welcome. Cute Robin picture. You sure made it easier for him to dig.
Nanny, that Catbird fledgling couldn't be any cuter!! Glad you're seeing the juvie Orioles too. Glad that Grackle gets along with the Towhee. Our Spotted Towhee comes to our feeder for the cracked nuts. Have you tried those yet?
Rose, fantastic photo of your Robin! The baby bb photos are adorable. Love the bath photo!! Great shot of the Jay on the birdhouse too!
Red, I'd save that adorable photo of the grandchild and frogs for the DG contest!
BeaHive, those are great pictures of your Waxwings. Love the look on that second one.
Iris, you're lucky you see the Red-bellied. Wish they'd come here.
Lily, cute one of your Crows. I've found that our juvenile Crows sound exactly like the fawns calling for their mom. It really gets confusing at this time of year.
I watched this juvie Scrub Jay as it explored our backyard.
Lily, Good shot of the Crows!
Red, Sweet one! Enjoy Texas!
Rose, Beautiful Blue Jay!
Duc, Love your Orioles!
Wow, Nice one Mary!! Yes White-winged Dove.
Why would it be so far off course?
Th range maps in most books and websites are way out of date.
According to WhatBird.com and AllAboutBirds.org, they should be in SW Texas and Mexico and points farther west than that. Memphis is way off course for them. I'd think those sites should have up-to-date info. In any case, I was excited to see that little fella (gal?) and doubly excited to get pictures! I just wondered what would make a bird end up so far off the beaten path.
Here is what the Cornell site also says:
"Although the White-winged Dove is mostly resident in the Southwest, it is expanding its range, and individuals can be found far afield. White-winged Doves have been seen from Alaska to Ontario, Maine, Newfoundland, and most places in between".
Great, linthicum! Thanks for finding and sharing that.
Hi Mary, They are being seen more and more in the East. Here is a report of one from Mass.

Here is the TN Birds Record Committee- The White-winged Dove is listed here. http://www.tnbirds.org/TBRC/TBRC_ReviewList.html

That means, it is still a major rarity in TN, and they (the TN Birds Record Committee) would very much like you to send them information and the photo, for their records.
I suspect you might also get an invasion of other TN birders wanting to see it, if it is staying around at all ;-)

Well, I contacted the Tennessee Ornithological Society and sent them a photo. According to their website, the occurrence of the White-Winged Dove here is extremely rare. Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts! Hope my visitor comes again!
Thanks Resin, that is what I meant.
Congratulations Mary!! I hope he comes back soon.
Mary, your dove is just beautiful. Congratulations on your sighting. It's wonderful to hear our fellow members are enjoying rare sightings. Glad you reported it too.
