Plant identification help

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

LOL I try and let the wild dasies grow in my field if I see them flower but get to going and before I know it I've run over one :(

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

LeBug I think your right, they look so close but mine is more ferny than the Queen Annes lace. All I know is it took over where I had it and am trying to keep it down to a clump now. http://www.americanmeadows.com/WildflowerSeeds/Species/WhiteYarrowseeds.aspx

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Mine reseed every where! So far they have managed to stay out of my beds but I have wild patches that I just mow around I like the ferny foliage and have plenty of space for it to grow I think all of the insects and butterflies just love it no matter what color it is I have the red, white and a Colorado mix that is kind of terracotta color somewhere but come to think of it I haven’t seen that one lately.

Yorkshire,

Hehehe, I leave you guys for a few hours and look what you go and do!!! Weeds everywhere!!

Hiya Lea, how are you sweetie? Good to *see* you. Hubby is much better than he was, thanks. It's been a very long 14 months. We've learned that getting through a day at a time is best.

Flowers, I think you have the prettiest weeds I ever saw. I've learned to appreciate weeds because I certainly can't 'beat' them, LOL

Besides....the weeds are important food for all kinds of insects and the bees always make a beeline (pun intended) for those wild flowers. We're just doing our bit for conservation, hahaha

Yorkshire,

This is a pretty white Campion that is growing beside our front path. It's a weed but I think it would compliment the pink Lychnis or 'Ragged Robin' growing in our back garden.

I had my pink Campion growing with my pink Lychnis out in one of my beds that I got from you Terri btw :) And pulled all the Campions and planted some out front by my pink butterfly bush and now have some little seedlings of the white champion too don't call those weeds those are pretty little flowers lol

(Zone 7a)

I have those daisies, too, only, I planted mine on purpose! LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Good to know others live with weeds too!
This is a fleabane that I let bloom in a small patch, then rip out when it goes to seed. Why not? They are cute in bloom, no doubt help feed tiny good bugs too.

Those apretty, too. I have Feverfew and Canterbury Bells that others have called 'weeds' and I call 'pretty'. LOL I can't find the Feverfew pics right now. Later, I will.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks Terri, your weeds are very pretty too . I can't beleive we are doing this, but hey thats some nice lookin weeds we all have going on there ladies ROFL. Some look better than my plants! This is not a weed, but I forgot what it is, does anyone know? I like it. I thought it was lemon drop, but thats not it.

those can't be weeds kwanjin, they are too pretty!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Agreed! Lots of pretty weeds but the last two are very pretty!
Then some people freak out at any kind of fungus too. I think its cool.

I love fungi. So many different shapes and colors.

This is the Feverfew. My SIL in OR sent it back wiht me from her yard last Summer. It runs amok there.

Another weed I won't plant in the yard. I keep it contained. From my niece's yard. I told her not to plant it but she did it anyway and is now battling it. Heh heh heh She listens now. Bishop's Weed.

Yorkshire,

Kwanjin, the Campanula and Feverfew are absolutely beautiful. I could live quite happily with a patch of those in my garden, Perhaps surrounded with a shrub or two of these
Forefathers of our hybrid tea and all the other roses I believe. I remember picking bunches of these as a child and getting scratched by the thorns...but I still love these pretty, simple little wild roses.

Oooooh yes, Fungi are wonderful, I agree. Nothing quite like getting down on your knees in the wet grass to photograph fungi at close range, LOL I always do that when nobody's looking, hahaha

There is nothing simpler looking than a wild rose but the emotions they stir are powerful. Beautiful.

I do not know how those weeds will do in my climate but, for now, they stay.

Yorkshire,

Many of our churchyards in the UK are left to 'go wild' in the Summer time. Many of them have been planted with wild flowers and can be absolutely beautiful. It's surprising how attractive seeding grasses can be too, isn't it?

Here's some fungi that I photographed last year.

Yorkshire,

Collage of several different fungi after one of my 'Fungi Forages'
One group looks just like crusty bread rolls, fresh from the oven. Another resembles beautiful velvet.

Here's my favorite 'Fun Guy'. I don't consider him a weed, either.

Thumbnail by kwanjin
Yorkshire,

Kwanjin, did he grow in your yard??
LOL

I've heard of those 'magic mushrooms' and what they can do to your eyesight, hahaha

Perhaps one of those might be growing in my greenhouse...off to take a look.
I may be gone some time, LOL

Yup, Terri. He just popped up one day. I think he's a keeper, too.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Wow never knew fungi and weeds could look so good . Sallyg that looks so cool growing out of that rock. Kwanjin I would keep your sweet Fun Guy too, he's cute.Terri1948 who would have thought something so pretty could grow from a pile of Poo. lol. I would plant the canterbury and feverfew, Nice pics .

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Where did everybody go???? Show me more weeds people! I brushed my teeth and put on deo. come baaaaak!

Yorkshire,

Snif snif, OK you pass! tee hee
kwnajin, that looks like some kinf od hollyhock/ mallow type thing. Is it?
We get these huge patches of marsh marigold or Ranunculus or something that we are suppsed to hate. Personally I think it makes a pretty spring flower. Then it goes away for summer.

Thumbnail by sallyg
(Zone 7a)

It;s in the Malvaceae family. It'll reseed like crazy. I figure with a lot of plants, if it's not hurting anything, it's okay to keep.

really cool pods or buds there on the Plantfiles pictures. Looks like it is a western plant .

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Terri that is one mugly weed there LOL first ugly one I've seen yet.kwanjin and sally yours are lovely!

(Zone 7a)

I like Sally's yellow one. I would let it stay, too.

Yorkshire,

Sally, we have some of those in our garden during the Spring. They're Ranunculus ficaria (Celandines). I also have one with orange flowers which doesn't reproduce like the yellow ones.
The variety with bronze leaves is just as prolific as the ordinary ones. I bought one tiny plant and now have it all over the garden.
Nice thing about them is that they come at a time when there's very little colour and I always think yellow flowers seem to bring sunshine into the garden, even on the cloudiest day.

Awwww, Flowers he can't help being ugly...that's a shaggy ink cap toadstool, if you think he's ugly now you should see him when he's older and dripping 'ink' everywhere. LOL bit like 'The creature from the black lagoon' without arms.

Kwanjin, does that weed of yours have leaves that feel like velvet? Is that why it's called 'velvet leaf'? LOL at 'Darrell can stop a thread'...you'll give that guy a complex, hahaha

Here's my contribution for today. Prickly as fury!!
The good old 'Scot's Thistle'

Yorkshire,

You want a weed, I'll give you a weed, ROFLOL

Whooo Whoooo Are ya selling those Terri? Put me in for a yard full LOL

(Zone 7a)

Thistles are neat looking. I'd like more, too, but, the 3 kitties stick their noses into everything. The one I have is pushing it.

Yes, the Abutilon has very soft and furry leaves.

I already told Darrell about the thread-stopping abilities he has and he said, "Tell the ladies I'll try to control myself."

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

LOL kwanjin! Getting down to the pathetic ones now, the heat has stopped the bloomin ones :-) Don't know what these are, but thought they were flowers and let them grow :-(
