DAILY PICS VOLUME 328

Marlton, NJ

Nice shots GP! That almost looks like a christmas tree behind the Cardinal. Good one of the (yes) Snowy Egret! I would love to see them fly over the house.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

I had some server problems and couldn't get here earlier. Gosh, so many great photos.

Burn that Yellow Warbler is beautiful. I bet those young Ravens will be adorable.

Venu, great photo of your Wren. I do hope the wind won't come up for your nesting Jay.

Miss Mary, your Cardinal dad and baby couldn't be any cuter. It's fun to watch how they teach their young the lessons.

Burd, your little baby Nuthatch is adorable!! Excellent pose on your Dove! We took our birdhouses down this morning and my male House Sparrow is giving me the eye. Great shot of your guy.

Nanny, equally adorable wp and Cardinal babies and parents! That baby Cardinal is precious!

GP, great photos of the Egret and Heron. Glad you're seeing the young ones too!!

This poor Bald Eagle was doing a great job of outflying the attacking Crow.

He got pretty close to me here. I liked this photo because it shows how flat they are in flight.

All our Tree Swallows have now fledged-horray!! Here's another photo of three of them.

I got a kick out of watching this Brown-headed Cowbird checking out the Tree Swallow fledgling.

Great Eagle shots duc!! Congrats on all your Tree Swallows fledging. Wonderful pics!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

2dCousinDave - Now, you say you shot that pic of the 4-day old baby blue birds from 30 ft away using your 600mm lens. I got one question for you - How long is your dang arm? :-) Great pic, BTW.

burn_2007 - nice pic of the stationary Yellow Warbler.

venu209 - hello, I don't remember seeing any of your pics before. I really like the pic of the little wren sticking its head out of the bird house. AND I'd hate to mess with the Blue Jay nest, but if I had to, I'd move it in small increments to a more stable area. I'd move it, let her find it, and then move it again.

Burd_Fotos - those pics featuring the White-breasted Nuthatch fledgling were great. But the one of the male HOSP blew me away - great detail!

nanny_56 - all your baby shots are super, but dang it, after reading your caption for the baby Cardinal, I can't stop singing "I got you babe" (remember, Sonny and Cher). Here listen, "I got you babe, da, da, da, I got you babe, da, da, da" - see.

gardenpom - I thought your Cardinal and the Magnolia background were a hit. AND you sure were fortunate to look up and see that Snowy Egret overhead - great capture.

Oh man, ducbucln, that pic of the flattened out Bald Eagle was just awesome. I saw that you used your 400mm, just how close did the eagle pass by you? That IS a really nice pic.

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

I have 4 pics more to add to the mix.

Here's two males sharing a feeder; a House Finch (I think), and a Northern Cardinal.

I think that's a House Finch, although if it turns out to be a Purple Finch, I'd be happy, because it would be a Lifer for me. So, someone let me know whether it is a House or Purple Finch.

Thanks,
Hack

Not as good as Burd's, but I have a male House Sparrow, too.

Now, this Mourning Dove was looking regal in its pose. It was amazing, it didn't budge from this position for at least 5 whole minutes, frozen. Like it was playing that children game - "Red Light / Green Light."

Are you kidding I saw S&C in concert 3 times!

How many mealworms can a bluebird stuff in its beak? It is hard to get a count, but a surprising number! (video from Stokes' blog)

Hack, I have no idea how far away the eagle was from me, but it was at least 50-100 feet away. Great shot of the House Finch (my guess, but I usually get them wrong) and the Cardinal. Your HOSP is a handsome guy too. Lucky you to have that posing Dove!

Nanny, that baby sure has a big mouth! lol

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Nice pictures folks. Hack, you sure have a pretty cast of characters in your pictures.

Nanny, those pictures are too funny! Great catch!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hi Hackster! I haven't posted bird pics in quite awhile, hence you don't know me. But this year the birds are so active in the backyard, I think they might jump me if I DON"T take their pic ;) I think mama Jay is in brood mode. She just sits in the nest, while Papa brings her food. I'm so excited about getting pics of the development of the chicks. It will be such a learning adventure!

Love your shot of the Mourning Dove! Sadly, last year I found one dead in the yard. I had to pick it up and give it a closer look. The ring around the eyes is truly turquoise. It is ironic that I think it was killed by the bird feeder, which I suspect fell on it. Sad but true.

Burd, wonderful shots of the Nuthatches, and reminded me that I haven't seen my usual Nuthatch residents :(

Wonderful photos all!

Here is a mama Red Bellied Woodpecker dining in the rain. She is having a horrible hair day. LOL

GG, she looks how I feel. lol. Just dug up some plants in the garden, thus sweaty and hair all matted up like that.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Hack your bird is a House Finch, The House Finch has darker brown on the wings then the Purple. The Purple is more of a reddish brown. The bill is a lighter color on the Purple. The streaks on the flanks is less pronounced on the Purple. Here are 2 pics of the Purple Finch a side view and a front view. I would have liked to have a back view to show the difference.

I just love this time of the year with all the fledglings! There are some awesome fledgling photos on here today! That is an awesome closeup of the Blue Jay on the nest. Who knew they had whiskers!
Today I saw fledgling House Finches, Downy Wps, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Bewick's Wrens, and White-winged Dove.

Here's a not so great photo of a White-winged Dove through the window. It was so cute, trying to play inconito in the grass. It's hard to hide when you are that big.

GG, Mine were looking the same today!

Burn, Nice shots of those Purple Finches!

Sweet pic Missy!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I saw this sad White-winged Dove today. I couldn't tell if it had a tumor or scarring from an injury. I'll post a couple of pics.

nanny_56 - 3 times, lucky you. AND you're right looks like the baby Grackle is about to chow down of mom/dad.

ducbucln - for at least 50-100 feet away, that's is great detail on the eagle.

venu209 - I look forward to seeing your pics.

GrannyGrunt - Poor thing, looks like mama Red Bellied Woodpecker has been through the ringer.

burn_2007 - thanks a LOT for the pics of the male Purple Finch. I can see now that it is distinctly different from the male House Finch. I do believe that if I ever get a shot of a Purple Finch, I'll be able to ID it.

thebestmissy - Even with the blemish, I like the pic of the White-winged Dove. BTW, my wife and I will be in Tx at the end of the month, visiting our son and daughter-in-law, who live in Austin (actually Cedar Park).

GG, mama Red-bellied is so cute with the wet feathers.

Burn, cute photos to explain the difference in the finches.

Missey, your little dove is a cutie in that grass. I feel bad for that second dove and hope that bump will eventually go down. Great picture of the mocker. Glad you saw so many fledglings too!

I noticed this female House Finch waiting on her mate in the birdbath.
