Happy birthday Joseph! I wish you lots of happiness and a garden full of MGs!:o)

Thanks very much, Emma, Jackie and Anna! It was a grand day, got to work in the MG garden for 4 hours and had a party with my family at dinner time, with all the kids in attendance.

Y'all take care, and thanks again.

Happy Birthday; Joseph.
I hope I'm not too late. We have one week, no?

Without causing diplomatic insident!

Hi Dany, thank you very much for your birthday wishes!

Are you keeping up with caring for all of your JMGs?

szarvas, Hungary

Three weeks of rain - cold nights.Soil too compact in containers, results at least 4 weeks late.
There are only leaves, but what leaves!

Thanks Becky, for the birthday wishes and the treat of seeing the speckled beauty in the photograph.

Dany, ahhh, you are enjoying the sights of seeing first hand the variegated Ipomoea purpurea. Aren't they awesome? Which Qnumber is that one?

Joseph

Happy Birthday, Joseph - may you have many more beautiful days to celebrate it in the coming year

Karen

Can't you just imagine some morning glories contributing to the festooning of Monet's drum bridge over his waterlily pond? (The second image is from the Japanese Edo period, of which Monet had quite a few woodblocks in his Giverny home - fascinating to see how ideas transmogrify from one place/time to another.)

A silly question, but long ago I wanted to ask: Fuji No Monet comes from the "Monet" of Karen?
That mean Monet in Japanese? Jon?

Yes, Joseph is Q 1152 KU.

NW/Central , IL(Zone 5a)

Happy belated birthday, Joseph!

Thank you Elsa, Karen, Dany and Nicole! Dany, I hope the flower looks like the published photo on the KU MG web site. I observed considerable variability in flower forms of those purpurea strains.

I live on Monet Circle, Karen, how nice of you to provide an image of Monet's art.

Dany,

Actually, the Fuji No Monet was crossed by me in my yard and I did a trade with the seller on eBay who drew the lucky straw to get this amazing MG seed. It was developed from a Lavender Fuji.

Betcha you didn't know that!

Emma

A lot of us were not aware of that factoid, Emma, wow!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Joseph,
Ron is one of a few that I've told. In earlier auctions, she stated that the seeds came from Texas, but no longer does that.

Emma - fascinating history of your MG, Fuji no Monet

Dany, if I may assume that Emma named this MG after the artist, Claude Monet, you might like to check the following website - http://www.the-athenaeum.org/art/by_artist.php?id=13&msg=new . There are beautiful scans of many of Monet's paintings there, and if I remember correctly, this website says it is okay to share its images, as long as you credit it as the source and also as long as you do not post them on other websites that might make money from that. Ron posted some clarification about using open domain images on the internet on another website; but I like to go by the preferences of sources of images I download.

Y'all, try downloading an image of Monet's, like maybe one of his waterlily paintings, for instance, and then using it as wallpaper for a while on your computer monitor screen.

Because those impressionists emphasized the changes of light on their canvasses, the backlighting from the computer monitor does amazing things to those images. I wrote about researching 'fine art' on the internet and ways to use and learn about it here - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/566811/

Karen

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

HI Karen,

I didn't name the Fuji no Monet - and yes, it was named after Claude Monet

Your 'fine art' link is great. Thanks for sharing that

Emma

(Zone 7a)

Emma - Oops - I stand corrected - you made the cross, but did not name it (later known as Fuji no Monet). I agree it was unfortunate you were not credited.

Did you know that Claude Monet's real, first name was Oscar? He thought he'd be more successful if he ditched his first name...trying to imagine how that would sound with new MG crosses...'Oscar Reflections'? 'Oscar Haze'? 'Fuji no Oscar'? (apologies to any Oscars out there - hope I have not offended)

Karen

Oscar means Divine Spear, pretty cool to associate that with a MG.

(Zone 7a)

Joseph - interesting you would say that -When we grew a clump of water iris in our tiny 'pond', if you happened to be present at just the right time, you could witness the changing of dragonflies from the nymph stage to their adult stage as they climbed up out of the water onto the blades of the iris for the great event.

Sooo - "divine spear" is quite apt

dragonfly life cycle - http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=dragonfly+life+cycle+pictures&aq=1&aqi=g4&aql=&oq=dragonfly+%2B+%22life+cycle%22&gs_rfai=Ci47RufAPTPCdCJTuzAS0jM3RBgAAAKoEBU_Q-_ZO&fp=62c7546c9e19fcb7

I seem to have water gardens on the brain for some reason - to other folks, there's some further discussion with a link to a Japanese Edo woodcut of an iris water garden here - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1100779/ . I'm about to look for a link for a western version of the an iris garden to post on Kokorota's birthday thread.

Karen

edited to apologize - The link is gone for the painting by Frank Bicknell of a garden of Japanese iris in Japan. It's always interesting to compare the same subject painted by folks from different cultures, though.

Joseph - Belated Happy Birthday! I haven't been on here in a while. Hope you had a good gardening day for it.

Joanne

Thanks very much, Joanne! The weather lately has been awesome, and the vines are jumping by leaps and bounds. Have a great growing season in Alberta!

Joseph

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

well gosh, Joseph Happy Belated Birthday to you. I know it was a good one, so have a wonderful rest of the year!

szarvas, Hungary

Thank you very much to you all, I have all the answers to my questions.
We know everything about the MYSTERY - Fuji No Monet.
Emma is the boss ! LOL
But Fuji no Monet, sometime appear like a Blue flower ,sometime like a Grey. What's his originally colour?

Monet loved garden. His garden still exists, we see from time to time in the emissions of gardening.
If he had known the JMG would probably painted a series comparable to Nynphéas.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Hmmmm ... is there no MG that Emma doesn't claim as hers? LOL! I bet you could teach the Japanese a thing or two about creating hybrids, Emma! LOL LOL LOL

Just what was the pollen plant to create that darker purple Monet, Emma? It's certainly not Lavender! Possibly came from Parks Seed Japanese Morning Glory Mix? I hear some pretty interesting vines used to come from those commerical packets that you used to buy! ROTFLMBO!

You do make me laugh, Emma!!! LOL LOL LOL

Becky, I fail to see the humor in your statements. Just what are you trying to do by implying Emma is not telling the truth? Start up another flame fest?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - No flame fest. Just voicing my opinion and assumptions like Emma does. I didn't know that she was the only one allowed to do that ...

Emma, the boss, lol, Dany, you are too funny.

The package was sent to me, not the other way around. I know that one was sent to Emma also.

I will not get dragged into a verbal war with certain folks on this forum. This happens time and time again with the same folks. I know they would like nothing better. These folks are scrutinizing every post I make as well as those of others to try to regain control over this forum. If I am not mistaken, I don't believe this forum is owned by anyone (but IB). I am well aware that they will stop at nothing to discredit and run off anyone who isn't a member or follower of their not-so-secret MG club. It's really sad the number of wonderful folks that have left this forum over the years because of this situation. Most folks here are well aware of this situation, so I won't dwell on it any further. :-)

[quote="beckygardener"]Is it relevant? I was just voicing my opinion in the following paragraph about you and Emma taking the thread off topic to try to start a fight with me, Joseph.

Becky, why don't you identify where Emma ever tried to start a fight with you, such as the comment you made to her in the first quote shown above? We do not start fights on this forum, and we do not run people off this forum. I am afraid you have it reversed, Becky. The facts speak for themselves.
