Lynn, Gigit starts itching this time of year, too. I think she is allergic to some of the weeds or grasses that are now rampant. If I take her down to the veggie garden, it seems to create problems. I have found that a quick bath after she has been exposed to heavy cover seems to help a lot. Have you looked on line to see what Henri's breed is particularly sensitive to? I found out that my previous Schnauzer was allergic to wool, so had to take the wool blanket off the bed.
Henri
That is a great suggestion, Sharon. He is napping right now, so he will get a little bath later tonight.
Oh, and I only used baby shampoo on her, and then only when she is dirty. The rest of the time I just use plain water for her bath.
Welcome home Pixiy. Hope you had a great vacation.
Lynn - I hate to say it, but Bichon's do often have to fight allergies. Food is a definite place to start (avoid wheat and corn in food, for sure). Some dogs have allergies to grass, even. I would join a Yahoo Bichon group and start asking questions so you can get some solutions.
Prednisone is great short term, but it has lots of side effects long term. Good luck. Henri is such a cutie-pie.
I'd be so careful with the dog door. I'd for sure fence in the area that he's in unattended. You have lots of critters and he's pretty small. And being white kind of makes him a sitting duck. Raccoons even and skunks can do lots of damage to big dogs, let alone small ones.
He is doing MUCH better now. The vet doesn't want him to be taking the prednisone very long. We are trying to not give him anything besides his special food, but we are being bad. He loves his treats.
His little snout was so raw, it was bleeding yesterday. So Joey cleaned him with peroxide. It seemed to relieve some of his tenderness.
You can find special treats, too - he's not alone in this. And I'll bet that little bits of meat or cheese are okay. :-)
Nice job, Henri!
YES!!!!!!!! This is his 2nd one. I wasn't sure whether he or the cat got the first one, but Henry had it. This time, there is no doubt about who got it. He was digging and digging until he got his prize.
Henry, the great vole hunter, is worth his weight in gold (and dog food). Better take him for a visit to Pixy's house pronto for vole clean up.
He would love to go to Pixy's house. Voles to hunt, dogs and cats to play with, and BONUS - a teenage boy. Life doesn't get much better.
Hang on. That looks like a mouse nose to me. Are you sure it's a vole? I mean, I hope it is. I just thought they had the long noses . . .
I think it is shrews that have longer noses. The voles infesting my yard have rounded snouts and much shorter tails than a mouse has.
OK. Maybe I only have shrews then . . .
If Henri disappears you know where to find him.
