Wooohooo, the very first hummer I saw this year was a male. After a period of absence. He'sssssss BACK! I knew not to be out in the garden without a camera, but I just missed a photo op.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hello All,

I'm thrilled with everyone getting hummer visitors...Congrats!!!!!!!!!
Please forgive me for not responding individually to everyone here. I've been overwhelmed here with so much "stuff", but I can promise ya'll i have been looking at all the wonderful pics and I'm thrilled for everyone!!!
Lily,
Glad your male is back!!!

Just a quick update here...
So far we had a female from May 18th-21st (with a nest mark)
A female I took a pic of on our honeysuckle on the 27th (the only time I saw her...unknown if it was the same one)
And a female today at one of our porch feeders...

Lily,
Can you send your male this way just for a day so we can have him do a U dance? I'll send one of the females down your way :D

Ugh, I've been so busy and missed so much, but loving everyone's pics. Cracks me up to see Nanny's little male hiding behind the feeder bottle just like my little guy does on the exact same feeder.

Burd's pictures are awesome. If I really get into this photography thing, I will have to updgrade my camera again someday. I haven't taken a lot more photos over the last week, but can post one or two maybe when I am home tonight.

I did get some awesome pictures of a squirrel in the white mulberry tree where one of my hummer feeders hangs. No bird pics, but I really enjoyed the photo session of the squirrel eating mulberries like corn on the cob!

Nuts - I was wondering if the Dichelostemma Ida-maia hardy to zone 5? I'm liking the sounds of it, but not much into digging up plants in the fall.

I've seen multiple displays of arching males near our pine trees. I think love is in the air! It is the coolest thing along with their clickety sound they make while they do it.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I saw that plant online and it looks hardy to zone 5, so I'm going to have to get it.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

I really like your #3 too, Burd.
Darling little female Nanny, love how she's checking you out.

Thats great Mrs Ed! Each year will get better with them.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I just went to put some fresh water out, set up the bird cam and I got buzzed. She's kinda shy…

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Very sweet pics of the female, nanny! She's quite the little "Ham", isn't she?

Congrats on the female, Erin!

Unbelievable shots with the wings stopped, Burd, as well as the others!!. How are you shooting so fast???

Don't fret Mrs_Ed. We're already having August weather so it shouldn't be too long! Wow, I just spotted your latest post - CONGRATS!!!

Glad your hummer's back, Lily.

Ilflowers, the Dichelostemma ida-maia is hardy to zone 5. I'm in zone 5a & they over-wintered & came up beautifully their very 1st year. I have them in full sun. I'll try to take some pics, but they're kind of waning now since everything is blooming early this year.

Thanks, in advance, for the new thread, nanny.
