We came from here. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1094813/ Great pics on that thread.
Let`s continue adding our Ruby throated Hummers here. Everyone welcome.
2010 Ruby throated Hummingbird Vol.3
Thanks for the new thread Burn! Nice shots of your Hummer's! I also have been trying to get close shot's of the Hummer's. I have a feeder about 8 inches from the patio window. They seem to check me out before they drink which I think is kool. Don't know if their the same hummer's for the last 3 years though. The Baltimore Oriole was surpised to see me when he landed on the feeder (he was like oh #%&$) and took off. lol
I got a couple shots today...I need to change my shooting angle so the light is on the hummer's more.
I saw the strangest thing this morning. I came out of my bedroom 6 a.m. and at the window feeder sat a male hummer. He was sleeping! he kind of looked like a green heron hunched down a little. He slept for about 15 minutes. I kept looking at him to make sure he was alive. I have never seen this before, have you????
I took some pictures and when I went to download them I forgot to put my chip back in my camera. I was so mad at myself, I really wanted to share this with everyone.
Amy
Burn, Nice shots! Thanks for starting the new thread!
Cute ones Burd!!
Nice photos, mine are here now.1 male ,then 1more male ,this am I saw 1 female.I was walking down by the feeder with a pot of flowers and stopped just in front of it and was deciding where to plant, here came the male cking out the pot of flowers in my hand,WHERE is the camera when you want it.I enjoyed it anyway..
Very, very cute pics, burn_2007! It's funny how some will let you get closer than others. Thanks for the new thread.
Really great shots, Burd_Fotos! With our strange Spring, we still don't have any females yet & I haven't seen the Orioles yet, either.
I've never seen them sleeping, Amy, but the females will sit for very long periods "resting" on the feeder by my kitchen window. They'll just sit & look around, then eat a little, then sit and look around, alternating like this for sometimes as long as 15 minutes.
I have seen the "sleeping" behavior with both Downy & Hairy Woodpeckers on my suet feeders, but that's another thread.
Sorry you couldn't get the pics. With me it's usually that I don't even have my camera or the shot is too far away for my 3x optical zoom.
Congrats on the female, huggergirl.

Great photos Burn and Burd.
Amos, your hummer may have come a long way and just needed the rest. They sit on the wires of my deck railings doing that quite a lot, especially when they first arrive here.
Hey! Who's hiding in that shrub?
LOL, the little guy SWORE he saw something, but kept eating until he joined an aerial pursuit with another hummer.
Great shots Burn and Burd, I wish I could get my camera to focus better on the bird instead of the feeder, but I can't catch fast shots and learn the camera all at the same time. I'll keep working at it =)

Great job Lily!
Nanny, I think thats cute!
Nothing at all wrong with that shot, nanny - it's just a different perspective.
Congrats, Lily - you deserve to be proud!!
Congrats Lily!
Awwww, thanks everyone for your encouragement. I'm truly ectastic that I was sitting a few feet away from where the hummingbird was hovering over the Salvia. Today, I saw one at the nectar feeder for a few mins. until it spotted me then flew off. I'm longing for more soon. I hope.
Another really bad shot...LOL!
Nanny, I have a quite a few that look just like that shot. lol
Any hummingbird pic. is a good pic. Mine neither good nor bad, it's special; it's my very first pix of hummingbird ever. I really am proud of myself. lol
Congrats Lily!! :)
Congrats lily,try this get yourself a chair or anything to sit on next to the feeder or the flowers they visit most,put on a red hoodie have your camera ready in your hand or on a tripod get ready they will come .Ive done this more than once,and its fun. Tamara = }
I have to say that in moving the feeder, the placement is not great for photo ops..kind of like the oriole feeder. But the main objective is to provide food for them and a chance to be able to observe them. Sooooo there ya go!
Things are picking up at the feeders now. They were really busy yesterday. I have been able to distinguish 2 different males for sure.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS ED!!!!!!
Love those flowers too!
Congrats Mrs_Ed! :D
Hey thanks.
Now she's gone. ha. It's about to storm here, but I put fresh water out and put the bird camera "on" the honeysuckle.
Keep your fingers crossed!
Hey everyone! Guess what? Yup. I had my first hummingbird of 2010. Hope it liked all my plants and will stay!!
Congrats Mrs_Ed!!
Congratulations Mrs Ed!!
YEA RAH Mrs_Ed,sweet a bird cam,that could be soo fun= }
Congratulations Mrs_Ed!!!
No, make that SUPER CONGRATULATIONS MRS_ED!!!!!
That is just sooooooooo exciting. I just knew you'd see them this year. You work way too hard at it to not get rewarded now & then.
Congrats Lily and Mrs. Ed!! I am so happy for you. Plus your flowers are lovely too. I really enjoy seeing the hummers among the flowers. I hope my new hummer haven gets in full gear this year. I know I have to be patient, but I want the birds to remember me next year. I am having to check the feeders early every morning before work for critter vandal attacks and I am rewarded each morning by seeing the hummers already busy feeding. Ah, perfect start to the day!
I got a short video of a male hummer Sunday night, I can't wait to watch it on a bigger screen. I don't know if I can post video clips?
not here, but you can post to YouTube and then give us the link!
I bought quite a few new Hummer perennials this year, but between all the rain & now our August temps, I've yet to plant most of them. Some are blooming right in their nursery pots.
