Hope you all beat the weather

(Judi)Portland, OR

By the end of the week there will be nary a virgin in our fair city.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Save one, if you can, for the weather!

(Judi)Portland, OR

Perhaps I'll troll the streets and toss one the doesn't look rumpled in the car.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I was a teenager in Bremerton and we had our own fleet. FUN

(Judi)Portland, OR

We had about 30 minutes of sun and everyone in the neighborhood was out walking the dogs. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

Today brought more cold and rain. Tiresome to the extreme. I have not checked on my seedlings in over a week. I do not really care anymore, which is a first. Maybe they will all die and I will not have to deal with them. Pooh on this weather.
I found some wierd poop in the yard today. Yes, it's come to that. I have a bad feeling it might be heron poop. The net is still on the pond, so it can try all it wants, but my fish are safe. Now I have to do 'the google' on heron poop.

Portland, I'm still traumatized by being called a 'troll' on the other website, so please don't use the word in this forum. It gives me emotional flashbacks.

Just kidding. Lame attempt at rain sogged humor. Make sure you save a couple of virgins for the sacrifice, if you can find any.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Pix I was using that t word as a verb. you are not a t in any sense of the word! Only really mean people would call someone a t.

It's amazing what just a few moments of sun can do. It was literally no more than 30 minutes but those were beautiful minutes!

Oh, I know, Portland! I was actually kidding. Just forgot to put the ubiquitous :) face. :)

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Judi, sounds like a fun day, even if you had to deal with traffic.

Pixy... I missed the troll comment on the other thread because unlike you who vailantly tried to restore some order and respect to a rioting mob, I chose to stop watching.

If you are a troll, you are an absolutely beautiful fairylike troll with glowing blond hair, eyes flashing with the conviction of truth and justice, and nature's beatiful deciples (plants and animals alike) vying to be lucky enough to earn your attention.......

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

We better hurry if we r gonna get those virgins....lots more are on the lookout for them. The hospital always jokes 9 months after fleet week Portland has and increase in births. I am afraid those new babies may be the only virgins left and you can't use a baby....its just bad

(Judi)Portland, OR

I also missed the troll comment because I got weary of reading the same nonsense over and over, and I don't like letting all that nasty stuff into my head. Love the description of Pix as a fairy-like troll.

LOL GardenChick - more ships are due in today but I don't have to cross the river! As a matter of fact, I don't have to go anywhere! The sun is out (well, sorta) and it's a good day to walk dogs and play in the garden. The rain will return late in the afternoon, but for a few hours we're dry!

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

it was nice early today but we got some rain now. ya gotta be quick to catch the sun around here.

(Judi)Portland, OR

It didn't rain today until about an hour ago, but there was no sun. I was happy just to have a mostly dry day!

LOL! So now I am happy to be a troll! Hey, maybe I can be one of those troll dolls! The comment was on the other website. It's a thread started by D on that site. I read the thread and posted a question because I have never heard of that term used the way he was using it. Guess I could have looked it up, but I didn't think it was a common usage term. Someone posted the definition, which I appreciated. But it made me a little sick to my stomach. So I left and came back here.
Hey, and I got my hair done today, so it's extra blonde! LOL!

Gardenchick, too funny! Yes, it's just wrong to use babies.

I did wake up to some sunshine this morning, though. So someone is doing something out there!

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Maybe my birdie interloper that didn't make it through traffic yesterday was the requested virgin? Does it specifically have to be a human? I even saw the mountain this morning....

On the other hand, the rain is back. Maybe birdie virgins only qualify for a one day reprive?

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

Have you ever met an actual virgin bride

Edited to say I am such a dork! I mis read birdie for bride.........teach me to not wear my glasses

LOL! Well, I'm not really sure, gardenchick. Unless I need to sacrifice to weather gods, I don't really ask those questions of people.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

^_^

(Judi)Portland, OR

So Pix does that mean that when you have to appease the weather gods you do go around asking? "Excuse me, I'm a little lost in this part of town. Could you tell me where the nursery is, and while you're at it, are you..." or "I love your dress. Where did you find such a lovely frock, and, by the way, are you..."

I don't really like birds, but I love the stories about how people protect the baby birds. Or any baby creature. It's interesting how humans want to protect the vulnerable, even if they are not humans. I saw a documentary a long time ago about gorillas adopting orphaned animals of other species. Fascinating.

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

I like most birds, except the dratted European starling -- any ideas on how to get rid of those pests? They are in full force this year for some reason.

(Judi)Portland, OR

A shotgun.

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

Portland, funny you should mention that - my husband just bought a .22 for that very reason (our first weapon purchase in all our years together, turning barbaric I guess). Not sure how good a shot he is, but those dang birds are tearing apart the insulation in our barn, crapping all over my car, and bullying all the tweetie birds at my feeders.

It's my experience that people want to protect the vulnerable, ESPECIALLY when they are not other people.
It's interesting that you don't really like birds, Portland. Is that all birds, or just particular birds?
Starlings are a complete nuisance. I once had a wildlife biology professor who would proclaim 'Starlings are going to take over the world'. He wasn't far from right about that in terms of native bird populations. They are like big gangs Maybe the shotgun is the best approach.

(Judi)Portland, OR

I don't like any birds. I'm not afraid of them, unless they dive at my head. Some of them are cute, but lots of them are very prehistoric looking. They have beady eyes. And they poop on the fly.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

My niece doesn't like birds, either - though I don't think she'll be shooting them. I think they just give her the heeBEEjeeBEES because they often appear in flocks.

Redmond, WA

I love birds, I've had them as pets since I was a kid... But ten years ago my brother found a box of abandoned kittens at a bus stop and my pet bird days were soon over. I used to let my tiel fly all over the house. I'd take her along on vacations, I even flew with her a few times... I made a special plastic cage for her for under the airplane seat... I was all set to be that crazy bird lady...

Exceptions to my love for birds are jays and crows... I give crows credit for being very smart and faithful to their own... I think they're even monogamous... but I can't get over their raucous noise they make and watching them fly around with other birds' eggs in their mouths...

Yes, I think some birds, like the blue herons, are very prehistoric looking. But that's why I like them! LOL! How funny is that? (Of course, blue herons are on my '*hit' list just now because they want my fish. ) We've had cockatiels and lovebirds, and a parakeet. Our lovebird was so cute. My son just loved him. Then we thought he was lonely so we got another one and the fun lovebird days were over. She henpecked our first one.

I love to watch birds.

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

I had a parakeet when I was a kid that would call me a pig. The only word it ever learned to say. My neighbor had a parrot that would mimic a ringing phone (before cell's and ringtones) always had my mom running to the phone.

(Judi)Portland, OR

I like the sound of birds chirping in the morning because to me it signals a dry day. Maybe even sunny. It's cute when they splash in puddles. But I don't like them near me. I did like the eagles in Alaska - they are so majestic.

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

The sun the sun Its out today hurray

I love the eagles so very much. It still gives me a thrill to see them soaring, plus the bald eagle is my totem so i am especially fond of them. Being near one, however is a little disconcerting. They are just huge! And they have really sharp talons and very sharp beaks. One had landed in a small fir tree in our wooded area a couple of years ago and I came around the corner and was face to face with it. We just stared at each other. I can still remember its penetrating gaze. I did not move and tried to call out to Mike without moving my mouth because I wanted him to see it. In the end, we had a nice few moments together and he took off and I was the only one who saw him. We had some circling over the house today.

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

We have some eagles near the sandy river and they will dive when thy see a fish. Its amazing to see.
Are you native american pix
I just did my family tree a few months ago and found out I have a lot of cherokee in my family. We have about 10 direct family members on the daws rolls. I never would have guessed.

My grandmother was 1/2 Comanche, and there is Blackfoot on that side of the family as well. But I don't claim it as a heritage because it's too far back. When I did some classes on energy healing, we did some Native American shamanism work and that's where I got the eagle as a totem.

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

That must havebeen a fun class. The hidden powers of the human mind are amazing

(Judi)Portland, OR

I will consult with my American Indian dog to find out my totem animal. I suspect it's a coyote!

Indeed they are.
Now the weather devas are toying with us. Yesterday was beautiful. Today, cold and wet. ARRGGH!

Judi, he's likely to be partial to his own genus. I'm not sure you can take his word for it...:)

(Judi)Portland, OR

Yes, I'm sure she is partial! LOL But she has convinced me of the lovely gentleness of her kind.
I'm enjoying the sound of the rain this morning, for some odd reason.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Amen to that, Judi!

Keeping my fingers crossed that this weather report, which is usually accurate, is true:
