Hope you all beat the weather

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I missed something. Is agave edible? Good? How do you fix it?

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Portland, Odd about the caffiene/calcium thing. I always thought that I was drinking it the "healthier" way when I drank it black. Hmmm....

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

There's a liquid agave that is a sugar substitute.

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

Is soda or pop bad for your bones as well...love my pepsi should I follow with a milk chaser :)

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

GC, I always told my kids too much soda pop would rot out their stomachs. I'm fairly certain they didn't believe me, just tried to paint an ugly picture. I can't get past the bubbles myself, although beer goes down easily enough. Hmmm.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Sometimes soda is actually good for you. Our pediatrician used to tell me to give the give soda when they were sick. Even Cola. I think soda in moderation is fine. I think it harms your teeth more than your body.

....the beer has to much foam for me. My hb likes beer more than soda to. I don't like how beer kinda fills ya up with foam. I stay with vodka.....oh and pepsi

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Garden, You can always mix pepsi with milk like Laverne (or Shirley?) used to do. ^_^

Bonehead, We are of similar tastes. I was not allowed to drink pop when I was growing up, Mom just never bought it. It stuck, and now I have no taste for the stuff (all of it is waaaaayyyyy too sweet and fizzy) but a nice cold beer on a hot day in the yard is this gardener's dream.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I can't drink regular pop, but I've always been a diet soda drink. First Fresca and then the things that followed. I'm actually very used to the taste of artificial sweeteners.

In the 90's they said that it was the carbonation that was bad for your bones over time. I don't know how mainstream that theory is, though.

Rarejem, I'm guessing you were of the Koolaid group then. I think Mom made it using half the sugar. We drank a LOT of Koolaid, and soda only on really special occasions. I do fondly remember a friend of the family bringing over some home made root beer once that was absolutely delicious. Kind of the salt-of-the-earth guy, so he likely ground up whatever root one uses for root beer.

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

when I was in my late teens 18-20 beer was the easiest to come by so I got sick of it.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Soft drinks are bad - they are bad for your teeth, they cause your body to pull calcium from your bones into your blood stream, and they have too much phosphorus. But despite all that, I love a frosty cold Pepsi on a hot summer day. I figure I take a lot of calcium, I rinse my teeth after drinking it, and if the phosphorous makes my pee glow in the dark, who cares!

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

I have had homemade rootbeer also. I don't think a & w can ever come close.

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

lol .......

(Judi)Portland, OR

Now, if the sun would come out I would be wanting a Pepsi. I only drink it when it's hot weather. Or with Mexican food. But then a margarita is even better.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Bonehead, Yup, koolaid with partial sugar or fruit juice/lemonaide.

Homemade rootbeer sounds dreamy though... I have always been a sucker for a rootbeer float.

Judi, you crack me up! And yes, it would be great to have enough sun to be tempted to enjoy any of the above!

So now we're under a flood watch. Super!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

All right. Fess up. Which one of you pi**ed off the weather gods?

It wasn't me! I've been doing the opposite of the rain dance for months now... maybe I should do the rain dance in an attempt at reverse psychology... desperate at this point!

I wonder if the tomatoes and eggplants will ever get a chance to leave the covered back porch this year... They should be out already but I don't want to hit them with transplant shock and rain at the same time....

I saw a local nursery selling tomato plants with blight today... :(

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

My cucumber starts in the greenhouse are starting to damp off, for heavens' sake!

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

you guys have me cracking up rofl

Seattle, WA

I hear you Kur. Just got back from moving my tomato starts back under the covered back porch. Sigh. There's a jungle going on under my grow lights in my basement too. The melons and peppers are starting to flower...

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I think we're going to have to spend our summer indoors!! Steve Pool of the ABC station did say that he saw a h-h-h-high out there on the horizon that we might see next weekend.

It's only the 11th wettest may since 1891. You mean there were 10 others like this?

I'm telling you that it's a lack of virgins to sacrifice. I knew there would be a detrimental effect because of this. The great Mother is angry and there is nothing we can do except suffer. And our plants. They bow their little heads, but they suffer, too.
On the other hand yesterday was brilliant! DH and I had an excellent sailing experience with plenty of wind and no clouds. It wasn't exactly warm, but I'm getting to where I am happy with anything above 50 degrees. That's pathetic. But I'll take it at this point.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Everything always boils down to money or sex. Where are the virgins when you need them?

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

It is pretty sad when you are THRILLED that the weather is "not raining and above 50" on June first. Trying to remember how awful that hot spell we had last year was on the little plantlings, but it's not helping much.....

(Judi)Portland, OR

We are really getting hit hard by rain here. Trees are falling on cars and the roads are a mess. To complicate the traffic woes, it's fleet week and the bridges are being raised more often than usual. I'm hoping to not get stuck in a long line since I need to cross the river today. Gosh, I just realized that I'm getting to be a crabby old lady - fleet week used to be a fun thing - all those men in town!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Be careful, Judi!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Yeah, don't get trapped anywhere with a bunch of out-of- town men.

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

On the other hand...

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

"What happens in Portland stays in Portland"?

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

I have tickets to meet the fleet we go every year and its so fun. The greatest year was when I was about 7 months and very pregnant with my son and I wore a shirt that said "will you be my daddy" It was a fun day and because i could not drink at all I got to enjoy the free show the drunken Portlanders put on.

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

Who/what is 'the fleet?'

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

That is ships full of men.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

GC, hilarious!

Yes, the fleet is the navy ships that dock during the Rose Festival . . .

http://www.rosefestival.org/events/fleet/

(Judi)Portland, OR

Lots of cities have fleet week - New York, San Francisco, Boston. Lots of sailors wandering the streets in their little white uniforms, and throngs of women following them. It always reminds me of some courting ritual you might see on Animal Planet.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

For all our clothes and behavioral rules, I think it's not far from that.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

For all our clothes and behavioral rules, I think it's not far from that. Oh, and we have our own fleet week during Seafair, I think.

North Lakewood, WA(Zone 8b)

And will we find virgins there that we can sacrifice?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Maybe some virgins beforehand, but I don't know about afterward. :-)
