Hello eveyone! Sorry for the late start to the new thread! I have been so busy, and I have a sick kitty-cat at home... we were at the vet's office all morning.
Anyway... we came from here... another great thread with beautiful photos!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1097037/
I'll start with a Black-crowned Night Heron from National Zoo. These herons are not exhibits at the zoo... they choose to live and nest at the zoo every year. They are wild, but they live in the trees behind the Bird house! Pretty cool to see!
Daily Pics - Page 321
Love the Black-crowned Heron, the goslings and all the rest! Wonderful pics! Thanks for starting the new thread VA!!
From the Last Thread
ilflowers, Very nice pics! Your last photo is a Black-capped Chickadee.
Ouch! Good one VA! You can even see the flying blood drops!!!
Thanks! That series is my fave... it's a little grainy, but it was shot at 1600 ISO, after sundown. That's when they do the best fishing here!
VA_Wild_Rose - Lot of nice pics to start the new thread. It's easy to let the thread count slip by, I know. AND I'm glad someone's hummers finally showed up - I'm still waiting.

Wild Rose, what great way to start a thread! So many nice pics. of the water fowls. Good gracious what kind of camera have you got? GBH "Speared" gave away its liking Shusi without that green hot sauce. lol
Pelle, your 2 Red-bellied WPs apparently don't have marital issues! LOL Not to mention the Starling is patiently waiting for its turn in the background. Do they (Starlings) not compete with woodpeckers and other birds at the feeder? It's odd that I don't see much Starlings in my area.
Canadian Geese venturing into a pond.
Cute geese Lily! The Starlings are no match for the Red-bellied Woodpeckers unless there is a gang of them at the feeder. The red-bellied will actually spear them.
I will gladly share some starlings with you Lily!
This juvie Starling hitched a ride home with the DH yesterday. He had the car window just barely down since it was raining and in flew this bird as he drove along! The funny part was that last week I was saying to him how the swallows make me really nervous and I just know one of these days one is going to end up in my car. And neither bird or me will be happy about it! LOL
On the dash just before we got it to finally fly out of the car....
Good start Rose. I'm in Branson for a few days. Saw quite a few birds yesterday, only one new one. A Swainson's Thrush. Saw several yellow warblers high in the trees I was not able to identify. Notable birds were Eastern Phoebes, Summer Tanagers.
But before I left home the other day, I got a pic to two male Lazuli Buntings feeding on my broadcast grain. I had two pair feeding when I left. Hope they are still there when I get home.
Nice pics nanny. I like your stowaway!
Red, Those Lazuli Buntings are gorgeous!
Starting to molt?
Wow, Nan. In order to have Starlings Juvie to hitch a ride with hubby. My goodness, they got to be abundant in number. I didn't hear any news that it left any "post card" in the car. So all is well. lol.
Iris, I thought Nan's tattered looking Oriole maybe a maturing-juvie as well. Pelle, Redbellied WPs sounds ummm mean! Not so are my Mitch and Mizzy pair. Lord Byron and his Missus (the RedHeads) will keep them in line and to know fer sure who are bosses. lol.
Red, I wished I could see one of those buntings around here.
Hi Lily, I like to think of the Red-bellied's as tough. They need to be with all the competition there is out there, otherwise they would never make it. The Starlings are a major competitor of theirs for nesting sites so I can understand their dislike for them.
Awwww.. Cute!!!
Not much going on as far as new arrivals. My resident House Finches with their youngs keep the feeders busy. Those female juvies are quite bossy toward their sibblings. They often chase them away.
Pelle, it's interesting to watch our feathered friends. From our different vantage points of view. Since I don't get to watch Starlings around here, all I saw was Redheaded WPs are more dominant than the Redbellied ones. I'm glad they are capable of defending themselves. A self protective mechanism. For instance, look at the juvies house finches. They already demonstrate sibling rivalry.
Pictures perfect Dave.
Yup, even under the rain. lol. Those blue birds are adorable doesn't matter what. I promise.
Great pics guys!
Dave, The fledges are so cute!
Dear Hubby and I went Birdwatching across the street yesterday. There are thousand of acres and trails. Last year we saw a Scarlet Tanger and didn't get a picture. This on was so awsome, he came closer and let me take all kinds of pictures of him. Also saw a red start but left my camera on the trail. I was more bummed out about losing the pictures of the bird than the camera. I was very lucky and found it. Is he not beautiful?????
Amy
He is gorgeous Amy!!!
Wild Rose, what a wonderful start for this new thread. Love your herons and goslings! Hope your kitty is feeling better. Also congrats on the new hummer.
Pelle, congrats on your "two" wps!
Nanny, what an exciting time to see that baby in the car! Love that bunting and catbird too.
Red, gosh, those Lazuli Buntings are beautiful!
Mrs. Ed, your baby robins are adorable.
Dave, wonderful photos of the bbs. They look so sad that it's raining. Your female oriole is beautiful too-much more colorful than our Bullock's females. Love that cardinal too.
Amos, how exciting for you to be able to photograph that tanager. It sure is a beautiful bird.
The Ash-throated Flycatchers seem to be friendly now that I'm putting out nesting material for them.
