I've been taking walks along canals, road sides and field around my house this year and thought I would use this thread to post pictures. I will be posting pics throughout the year as I spot new things of interest. I don't know the names of everything so feel free to jump in and name what you can or correct my misidentifications.
First up Alligator Weed this is not only an introduced invasive but also prohibited in Texas.
Wildflower walks.
Love the buttercup photo. I've tried to get those going here, it's been slow but steady.
I'm trying to get a buttercup going myself. I think it has finally recovered from the shock of transplanting.
What pretty things you see on your walks! Love the pic of the egret.
Your little pink noid is Mountain Pink, Centaurium beyichii.

The number of windflowers this spring has been fantastic. The fall and winter rains must have awakened long dormant seeds from who knows how many years past. We had huge drifts of gaura open every evening for weeks. I discovered they have a wonderful fragrance!
I don't think it's mountain pink they look a little different than the pictures online. And Mountain Pink is not supposed to grow this far east.
The Salvia lyrata is also called Lyre-leaf sage. I was told it was invasive but did not find that on the website I was on. I will keep it then. :o)
Beautiful pictures.
I just did a search for Centaurium and it looks a lot like Centaurium puchellum, which is an introduced species, but still no positive ID
I've read that salvia lyrata has a potential for invasiveness but a like it so I will give it a try.
me too as I love salvias. I love that orange flower and saw it this year too.
So pretty. Do you have a Macro setting on your camera?
