Folks, Scroll up! I added lots of pics today ;)
Here's today's pic of the babies...
The youngest one (one day younger than the other 3) is in the top left side...still looks like it's doing well...
It was a hot day, so instead of all the siblings cuddling with each other, they each wanted to each have their own space/corner of the nest...LOL

Now, if this don't beat all...
I remember NE heat when visiting grandparents house in Omaha. Quite different from near L. Mich in WI so I feel for the babies.
Mama is taking good care of herself so she can give the chicks the best of care she can offer! Hope the weather will co-operate. Hi there Iris.
Adorable porch! I bet in the severe whether, you could take that planter off and put it on the table, move the table closer to the house and she'd be fine with that.
Mrs_Ed,good thinking,i was on the same track...Babies doin well, makes you happy dosent it !!!!
Hello ladies,
Well, looks like there is going to be 2 rounds of severe T-storms today for us here in eastern Nebraska. There is a severe t-storm headed this way...within the next hour. I hope it goes just south of us. Currently it has 60+ mph straight line SW winds with nickel size hail. Here I go again. DH will be at work, so it's all up to me. I will be bringing the planter inside. I can't set it on the glass top table. That table was left out only once during a storm like that and was tipped over, dented thr rim and damaged the side of our house siding. We were lucky the glass didn't shatter! The porch is facing the south...
Editing to update...looks like this storm is dissipating somewhat...I hope it continues to do so...whew!

Whew! I was concerned too for the little ones! You all stay safe.
Hello Lily,
That was a close call this morning! Now we're under a "tornado watch" this afternoon/evening. I'll make a deal with mother nature to give us all the severe t-storms she wants to give us...just after these young ones fledge and can find a safe place.
Here's a pic I just took...Mama and Dad are awesome parents! The youngest one is laying on top of the older siblings...oh so relieved! I've seen so many nesting stories/videos/nature shows on TV about how the "stronger/larger/older babies" wind up getting fed more because they are more aggressive. Sometimes they will fight with their siblings for the food/attention too. I guess that could still potentially happen, but Mama seems to make sure she regurgitates food for the young one and sits on the nest still while Dad brings the worms for the older babies.
I can't wait til they all start opening their eyes and chirping! :D

Hi Susan, doesn't it give you fuzzy feeling when we're given the opportunity to watch such awesome happening? Your Robins' nest is marticuluously made! They seem to be more artistic than--say the Brown Thrashers. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Our hurricane season will begin down South. Ughhh it's officially begins today! Yikes.
Hope the parents Robin continue to meet each of their unique younguns' requirement. I wished I had access to the my B.T. nest to watch and share their developement. But it's on top of a 9 feet tall arbor.
Oh no!!!!!! Another severe storm right now...AGH!

I'm not touching the planters...Mama is in the nest, just praying! She is getting pummled by major downpours...and it's coming out of the NW so she is getting the brunt of it :(
Keeping my fingers crossed!!!
Thanks Pelle...but now we're getting pea and nickel size hail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AGH!!!!!!!
Lordy Be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is not good!!!!

Prayers have been answered...
The worst has finally just passed. I opened the front door and I wanted to make sure she was ok...figuring if she was, the babies were...
I said "Hi Mama" in a soft sweet tone and she turned her head...Bless her heart!!! Yay!!!! :D
Be still my heart...I must have aged 10 years tonight...LOL

Good gosh! I would go and check on my gray hair. I would have had extra ten strands that turned gray! All jokes aside. I'm glad the family made it through the storm. Thanks Susan for the update.
Hello Lily,
Me too...Thanks! My heart was in my stomach for nearly a half an hour. The storms were actually training for awhile too. The good side is that there is now a worm feast for them from all the rain. The chitlins will probably get an extra serving or two from Mama and Dad over the next day or so...not a bad silver lining! :D
Hmmmmm...gray hairs??? After tonight it's actually easier to count the ones that aren't gray...HA!

That's great news!
So glad everyone is ok! What a change in those babies in just a few days.. I could tell that the eyes are getting ready to open on the older ones..
thank you so much for sharing this with us :)
Hello Pelle and Clan,
Thanks ladies for your concern for everyone...much appreciated :D
Clan,
I hope the eyes open and they start chirping tomorrow!!!

Oh there's that "big drama" drama right out the door. It is so rewarding to get to watch but oh the stress! LOL
Glad all are well!
Thank you so much for sharing this story with all of us......really good pictures.
You are a good mama too!
I can't wait to see what comes next. Nature is the best
Amy
So happy all is well with those little babies. Is is safe to bring the planter into the house until a storm passes or would it tramatize the parents too much??
Hello folks,
I'm starting to get concerned the "runt" isn't going to make it...
It wasn't getting fed nearly as much as the bigger babies today. It's hard to believe that I think it's not going to make it to becoming a fledgling. I have to admit...I've seen one, two and 3 Robin babies make it to becoming healthy fledglings, but not 4...
Can anyone reassure me that it's still possible that the little one will be ok? Has anyone see a healthy set of 4 Robin fledglings leave the same nest?
Here's today's pic...what are your opinions?
I expected to see the smallest/youngest one be full of dark feathers today like how it's siblings looked in the last pic...but I was saddened to see otherwise. It has fallen behind on it's development/growth rate! Although it's furrier than in the last pic, it really hasn't grown in size either. Can anyone else see this?
This pic was taken around noon today. When I peeked into the nest at near dusk tonight, the poor thing was almost buried under it's siblings...oh so sad! :(

they (neither parents nor sibs) haven't kicked it out of the nest, so that's something. i know we'll all be rooting for the little "runt." Yes, I've seen 4 babies successfully fledge, but it's hard to watch those times when one doesn't make it. I'm just glad they survived the most recent storm!
Hello Critter,
I wouldn't have started to worry as much if I didn't take the extra peek into the nest tonight...
I hope Mama shuffled the babies to keep the small one near/on top. Since the older siblings stretch their necks so high now when the parents feed them, they get fed 1st and most often...
I'm just praying that somehow the smallest one makes it. I was so tempted to want to help shift the little one from under the all the other's wings...but I resisted.

I know watching eagles nesting the runt sometimes becomes a fighter for the food and can often be stronger and wiser than the others. You think they will never make it and then one day they just decide enough is enough. Hope that is the case here. Time will tell i guess but it is so hard to watch nature at it's worst sometimes. I would leave it be as if the parents are feeding as much as they can it may cost one life for 3 others to survive. I hope the little dumplin survives though.
It's worries some to watch some helpless beings, even in birds. I too will be rooting for the 'runt' or like rebloomingnut's called it 'dumplin'. So cute.
On the note of
...it may cost one life for 3 others to survive
Best wishes for the Robin's family.
Awww, Marna, that's so adorable nestled in the Lilac bush (Isn't it?). Oh guys. After sun down last evening. I was in the front Rose arbor. I though I heard babies chirping from my Brown Thrasher Nest. Another indication that they've hatched, is that the parents are back and forth, back and forth even at dusk.
Susan, they're adorable. You've given them all you can, and it's so wonderful. Hope the youngest makes it.
Mrs-Ed, glad to hear they all made it. that very encouraging.
My goodness, they sure are growing fast. They will soon be too large for all four of them to fit inside that nest. It is a good thing they are in the planter box and will be safe if a couple of them get booted out of the nest. They can always hunker together and still be near the nest and beg from Momma and Daddy.
They sure are cute, aren't they?
Nana3
Never thought of that if they get booted out. They would still have a great chance to survive and be fed there in the planter.
Thank you so much, SusanLouise, for starting and keeping up this thread. This is the kind of "soap opera" I like to watch, and hope to someday be as lucky as you to be in front row of it. Cheers to the birds who brighten our lives!
Ok, where's Susan at?? It's been 2 days without an update and I'm going through withdrawal!! Did Runt make it? Was the storm very bad? Are the eyes open yet? How are the older 3 doing???
I need answers!! Arrrgghhh.....
(breathe, breathe)
(laugh,laugh).
Iam feeling the same Whats Up......
Hello folks,
CRAP! I'm tired...I just uploaded the wrong pic in this post...it's a duplicate from the one above...
So the next 2 pics will be on the following posts...AGH!
Sorry for the delay...been overwhelmed here with so much "stuff"...Dr's office for tests, preparing to leave for a family funeral in a couple of hours and trying to keep up with our Robin family, and our gardens/feeders/etc...including a new nest being built by a new Cardinal family making a home in our honeysuckle. I've been very exhausted and only wrote posts in a couple of other threads...absolutely drained.
Anyway, I'm posting 2 pics...one from yesterday and one from about noon today. Things are looking better for the tiny one of the group...it has been touch and go there for awhile. You will notice in the 1st pic that instead of being just one day behind, it looks to be close to 3 days now...growth/development-wise. It is just now starting to grow some dark feathers other than the ones on it's wings. You will see the little one is on top...again I was relieved. But again last night, it was buried under the older siblings. I worried all night, even losing sleep over the thought of it possibly sufficating. I couldn't help it...
I was relieved to see it's still hanging in there today!
I won't be back til Saturday night from Broken Bow NE (about 200 miles NW of us here in Lincoln), so I'll post the next pic sometime late Sunday afternoon or early evening. Enjoy your weekend everyone :)
Remember...ignore this pic and look at the next 2...sorry for the duplicate.
