Cute one SusanLouise!
2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 2
Oh that is lovely. How tiny they are.
Thank you ladies :)
Hey Susan. That's pretty much how I am. Usually get one or two in the spring, got one in the summer and then in august is when i have them. Love the chase picture
Hello Mrs_Ed,
Thanks! Glad to know we're not alone with that...;)
I'm surprised since you are in Illinois...usually a pretty high rate of hummers in your area. I used to have a link showing the concentration of RT hummers throughout the mid-west, Canada and east of the Missouri River, but I can't find it now...Grrrrrr.
Loved seeing the "chase" among your honeysuckle vines, SusanLouise.
oh that would have been a good link Susan! I've been on the prowl for ages to figure out what the deal is.
pelletory is right duc, the flowers are molded in the plastic and can't be removed. I have a bigger version of this same feeder that an Oriole frequented last year, so I hung it up in a different spot. I noticed tonight that he seems to be happy visiting either one. I hung an Oriole feeder and it might as well have been a sign that said go away! Plus they are too hard to clean.
So be it! He can have the hummingbird feeder until the hummers arrive or he moves on to hanging out only in the trees behind my house. Nothing beats a hummingbird, but if I have to wait, this is the next best thing. His calls are the neatest of all birds I have experienced so far.
I saw one! I saw one! A male with his beautiful 'red neck'. lol. I regret I didn't have the camera then, it came by to check out my 'Costa Rica Blue' Salva. I hope it will return soon.
Rose, Little Girl is so cute!! Great shots of your hummers!
OMG How cute!!!!
Did that baby Blue take a drink of the nectar Rose? I'm so glad you've shared those wonderful pictures. I saw a female around noon checking out the feeder. I'm hoping they will hang around this time.
Congrats Amy on your first Hummer! I don't know what that Woodpecker is doing...but it is a cute pic!
The one I posted above shows the Bluebird just using the feeder as a perch...maybe that is what Woody is doing!
Congrats Amy.
By the way, you have a beautiful view out your window!
Luvly Mother's Day gift Amy.
Thank you
I am not sure it was his third trip to the feeder. It is very curious to me.
I couldn't figure out what the bird was at the feeder. As you can tell I am not sure about blue birds. I do love their color though.
Congratulations!
Be still my beating heart! They are here! They are here! We heard a familiar sound this morning but I could not see one. This afternoon I laid my eyes on a female hummingbird perched in a tree and heard another one somewhere overhead. I don't have a picture yet, but I will be trying to get one today. =)
aww. congrats
Congratulations ilflowers!!!!!
Lovely, lovely! What a beautiful sight! Congrats ilflowers.
Very pretty girl!!
awwww. It's nice to see them at the feeders, but nothing's better than seeing them at the flowers.
Great photos ilflowers! Looks like she's quite happy with those pretty blooms.
Beautiful girl and vine, ilflowers. Congrats!
what honeysuckle is that?
Ilflowers....those are beautiful shots of your pretty girl! I agree with Mrs Ed...there is nothing prettier than the Hummers and flowers!! I planted some Honeysuckle but I don't think it will do much this year...yours is sure gorgeous!
Thanks all, I am so happy, I saw my girl again today. She hasn't settled on the feeder right below where I took the pictures, but she is busy frequently working the honeysuckle. It is the Major Wheeler variety of trumpet honeysuckle and it has done very well. It actually grew well and bloomed the first year (2009), so I would definitely recommend it. I bought two more this year for my new arbor. I added a little better picture of the vine covering a two-sided shepherds hook.
Wow, the M.W. honeysuckle really enjoy full sun there. Here in the hot/humid South, they do fine in the shade. :-)
Burd, that oriole is really going to be a regular visitor to your feeder now. My orioles are constantly at mine and it's such a joy to see them.
