Post when you get the box. &
Post when you sent the box on to the next person. (index cards with address are inside)
Then...Post what you kept out of the box - and please don't tell us what didn't make it!
Tracking is optional as I've already forgotten to do that!
Think of the picture of what could be in the box. Our members grow a lot of different gesneriads and houseplants. I took that pic last year for our violet club.
Happy treasure hunting! I want everyone to find a special treasure in that box!

Round Robin Box on its Way!
So that means Wed. right? I'll be camped out by the mail box!! LOL!!!
Post Office lady said 2 days, their two days and our two days could be very different! I'm hoping Wed. Take an umbrella with you..handy for rain or sun, ha.
tish
I am so excited again. I am glad I'm toward the middle because I'll have more to add in a few weeks than I do right now. It will be nice to know I have a lot to put in whether or not I take alot.
Thank you Tish for organizing it and starting it.
Can't wait till it gets here! I should be able to get it out the same day if it shows up in the morning.
Pat
If it gets here by 3 PM when I get home from work I should be able to get mine out same day too as the PO is only a couple block walk for me. I already have my older babies picked out to add lololol.
Where did my post go??
No box today!! The post office told a fib. LOL!! Will wait by the mailbox tomorrow.

Melanie
Goody, goody. It should be in Florida by Wednesday or Thursday. I'm soooo excited. I hope there is a petrocosmea in the box. I have no luck with streps and love the way the pets look. Like a whirly gig. LOL
Eileen!! Where have you been?? LOL!! You have dmail.
meag848 ,got your Dmail and sent address to Pat. We've been busy in yard, cutting dead branches of lychee tree and carombola tree, and all ixora around pool. It's a monumental job for us old folks.
Thanks
Thanks for the tracking number! Got your address Eileen. I hope it comes early Monday so I can get it back out.
This will be fun!
Pat
Well...excitement abounds!
Glad everyone is having fun with this. I was out of town since Thurs am, with no internet access. Just got home today. I'm embarrassed to say I have so many different types of plants I had a hard time choosing what to put in. I wanted to give something different that maybe someone hadn't grown before. I just don't have but a couple streps, can't seem to grow them and keep them alive. I think it seems everyone that grows a lot of plants wants to put as much in the box as they can, not just to equal what was taken out. If it fits, more in a box doesn't cost that much extra postage. So a few of you that don't have much to put in the box shouldn't feel bad about taking out a couple extra things...I'm sure there will be more than enough to go around.
tish
Hi All!
The box arrived here in Orlando a couple of hours ago and it is back on its way to Eileen in Palm Bay, Florida. The postmaster said it would get to her tomorrow and hopefully that is the case. Tracking number: 0309 1830 0000 9194 8807.
I have to say that is the nicest box of plants I have seen yet! Boy, did I have a ball:) Eileen, I think you are going to have a fun time going through all of that. It is very full!!
The plants wrapped in newspaper in the bottom have the names written on the outside so the next few people probably don't have to unwrap those if they are not interested in them. Everything in great condition.
Okay, here is my haul, LOL!
Col. X-mas Carol piece
Chirita kitaguni leaf
Schiediana, don't know what it is piece, LOL!
Col. Bonfire piece
AV Christine leaf
spiecies grotei sport leaf
Ethel's Wild side plant
Kohleria silver feather rhizome piece
Smithiantha An's Antique Print rhiz.
Smithiantha capistrano rhiz.
Chirita moonlight leaf
For any newbies who don't know even the smallest, tiny piece of a rhizome will grow.
Streptocarpella carolina snow piece
Chirita Hisako leaf
E. Strawberry patch piece
AV brass band leaf (I have wanted this one for a long time.
I didn't expect to find smithies rhizomes in there and since I am a smithiholic that was a nice surprise. Everyone outdid themshelves with the nice plants and the excellent packing. It was so much fun going through the box but I think we need to start taking more out, LOL!
Thanks so much, the box made my day!!! Oh, if you see anything on the list of what I took out and you don't find it in the box when it gets to you just let me know and I will start a piece of it for you.
Pat/Orlando
Oh WOW, Pat. What a great bunch of goodies. A lot of those are new to me. I've grown mainly AVs and the florist gloxinias. I've tried streps, but don't have any luck with them. Right now I have pieces of leaves that I rescued from dying streps, and I keep forgetting to water the little lettuce box they are in. I think that is how I have to grow them: on the dry side. The four pieces now have babies ready to be put in their own pots. I hesitate, afraid I'll kill them again. Now I'm ready to try some the new types.
I can't wait for box to come. I'll be looking for it.
Eileen
Oh my now I'm worried. I'll want some of these things and won't know what to do with them.
Is there a guide anywhere that tells us how to grow things like Chirita leaves and smithie rhizomes and pieces of episcias and the like? I haven't a clue and can't stand to kill something.
Tish sure did an awesome job, didn't she? I put in lots of extras so it was busting at the seams when it left my house. LOL!! Eileen and others....have fun!!
I just got it started...everyone else is going to do an awsome job too, don't give me too much credit!, ha. And this box is getting a fast start!
If you don't know how to grow something, just ask!
Schiediana...I think that is an Aeschynanthus. Very hearty and blooms often for me. Its dried out a lot of times and never seems to mind. One of the least fussy plants I own!
Rhizomes are actually meaty/fleshy seeds strung together. You can plant a piece or individual "seeds". You can put the seeds on top of soil and keep moist with a covering. Rhizomes just cover them with soil and water them, they will sprout up when they are ready. To make stronger plants, you can repot them lower into the soil after they start getting some leaves.
Most leaves you can root just like a violet. Chirita leaves like to be on the dry side a little more than violets. Also you can cut the leaf in half, the top half will root also. Episcia, scrape the stem a bit and put it down to root like you would a violet leaf or a sucker or a crown cutting...give it humidity until it gets some roots. Some people put rooting powder on them, but they root just as well without it.
Ok...this is how I do it and it works for me, but some people have better results growing them differently.
tish
Rhizomes are really easy to grow. Mine usually come up in 3 weeks or so. I grow Smithies and just about everything with my AVs. I root Chiritas just like AVs though they can take longer, but not usually that much although I did have one that took 6 months.
Pat
I am SO kicking myself in the butt for not playing with you all but I really didn't have much to add this time around. Next time I sure do hope to play. Sounds like you are all having such a great time! What nice plants going around. I love checking in and just hearing the excitement in all your voices :) Really brightens my day.
Tish, I did a little research and I do believe your Schiediana is a columnea schiendiana. Very pretty plant!!
I should have plenty to share in the fall if/when you will all do it again in the fall just before winter so we can all play with new babies during the winter. Maybe I will try organizing my first one?
Just enjoying watching this time though.........sounds like you are all having a blast!
Always,
Kim
Tish thank you so much for a bit more information about these other gessies and how to plant them. I doubt I'll be too adventurous but I just might surprise myself.
Anna,
The sticky threads at the top of the AV forum have lots of information about growing all kinds of Gessies.
Schiediana ....Yea, I should go ask the experts. Some places its is listed as a columnea. I don't know if it is an intergeneric with a nem. or what. The Smithsonium (sp) in DC has it as an Aeschynanthus, so they should know. Why it is listed differently in other places I don't know. Some have been reclassified, but I thought that was only species. tish

OK---Just got back from PO. Box is on its way. Here is the tracking # so you can see it's progress.

I had so much fun going thru the box. Leaves are potted and in their new domed home. The little plantlets are in a dome home too. If I can figure it out, I'll post a picture when I figure out how. I've done it before, but it's been a while and my brain is old and doesn't retain info very good any more. LOL
Boy the box is moving very fast. Everyone is really getting it out quickly which is so nice and thoughtful.
Wow!!! What wonderful treasures you all are getting. SO much fun to read :)
Connie

Connie
Christmas happened in West Virgina on 14 May and be forwarded to Ohio on 15 May. Box is in rather good condition. I kept: Chirita 'Patina' and Chirita UBSO 083 (whatever that may be) and AV 'Brass Band,' 'Maui' - I lived there for 20 odd years and hadn't realized that the island had an official AV - and 'Rob's Sailor Bell.'
I added (2) each Kol 'Ruby" and Sinn 'Freckles' plants and an AV 'Picasso' plant together with Achimenes pulcherama rhyzomes and (2) each Strep 'Black Ace' and Strep 'Salmon Sunset' leaves,'
This is a fine idea and I do trust that another installment will wend its way later in the summer.
LOL Xmas coming to Ohio -- that sounds great! Now don't laugh at me because I'm gonna ask a stupid question -- what are these cute gessies with fuzzy leaves? I'm quite "experienced" with AVs but would love to try those unusual ones and just have no idea what to look for. Maybe I could find one in a box? Also can it be started from leaf cutting like AV? Does anyone have a fav one? Will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks and let's keep having fun!
Maria
