Thanks, now I just need to learn not to use google ;-)

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10a)

Congrats all - the new search is great. I love the advanced search features especially. Nice work!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Hang loose. We're aware that things aren't updating as they should. They're still rolling this out.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Is this new feature being rolled out what might be causing me to get database errors in PlantFiles?

Actually, I got it just now also, when I tried to reply to this thread. This is what I've been getting, and if I try two or three times it eventually posts.

Quoting:
Database error: Invalid SQL: replace into t_ibSearch_queue set postid = '7749886', done = '0'
MySQL Error: 1146 (Table 'gardening.t_ibSearch_queue' doesn't exist)
Session halted.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

There's a chance of it Joan.
Take screen shots of what you're seeing and if they don't resolve tonight, we have a record.

I know that the process of launching the search engine is still going on and they are working with the code here.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

This is wonderful. I did a search for a DG member and it went back to her posts to 2004!! I wonder if that is when she became a member.

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10a)

We are indeed still rolling it out! (-:

Should be done soon.. thanks for your patience.

Joan, I got the same error replying to a thread on the SW Gardening Forum. My post did show up when I went back.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I nearly missed these replies. Evidentally the threads aren't automatically watched when we post anymore? Or is this a side affect of the update?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I think it is a causality, but they are working on it right now.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Is anyone getting the Invalid SQL error now?

See if you can replicate it.

Let me know where you were and the time.

I got it over on the Parking Lot just now. Wasn't aware of this thread so didn't copy it. My post did post, though. I noticed the same thing about my thread not being watched anymore. Hope that helps.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Trying to post here again, which is where it happened last time. I have Melody sending me a test report to the helpdesk to see if it happens there again.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Let me know where you were and what you were doing if you get another error of any kind.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

The tech team is going to make an adjustment in the search tomorrow. The results will default to descending order ...the last, or latest post will be the first displayed. They can't fix that tonight, but will do so in the morning.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

umm, well...remember "morning" is relative depending on which time zone you're in ;o) They did say they would work on it tomorrow, though.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

So true... I keep forgetting we're spread across several time zones.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Funny that my email quit working at the same time you brought the search system up and still won't work????

Melody,
I don't know if this matters or not, but the thread I received the error on earlier states that there are only 2 posts, when actually there are 4. I'm not sure this is relevant info or not. :-)

YA! YIPPEE! THANKS everso Melody. I have missed this feature! I use it all the time.

Your email wouldn't have anything to do with the DG system. Do you mean your dmail? If so, can you tell me what you mean by it quit working? It's 10:30 here and I'm about to close things down for the night, but please post if you are having problems with dmail, and please advise exactly what problems you're encountering.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I know Terry. My daughter has told me that so many times. Nope, not Dmail. Email. It gives me error messages. Yes, it is getting late here too. Nite.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

The counter on thread replies was affected while they were releasing the search feature. It is more involved than throwing a switch so a few things had glitches. Let me know if you are seeing any fresh issues.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I have never used the search engine. Where is it located?

Would someone explain how it works? What would you search for and HOW?

For ex: IF I wanted to find an old post on a particular topic, what would I put in?

Does the search engine work in the D-mails as well?

Thanks, Gita

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Gita. The D-mail area isn't part of this search. (it has its own)

When you are in a forum here at DG, look in the top right hand corner. You'll see a search box. That box searches everything...DG, PlantFiles, Articles, Marketplace...everything. Right under it, you'll see 'Advanced Search' If you click that, you'll be taken to a page where you can select the forum, key words, dates, member...just about anything you need to define the search.

Try it out...you'll be surprised at how handy it is.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks Melody! Will try it....Gita

Good morning west coasters - and Happy Friday to all!

I just wanted to let you know, we are adding more power to the Forum search today. This shouldn't disrupt your experience on site. But, please do let us know if you see anything unusual.

In the meantime, you can still play with the search, it's live and it works! I encourage you to search for your favorite topics. I just spent some time searching for grill recipes, and I found a ton I hadn't seen before!

Also - make sure to try the advanced search part of this feature (it's the little green link right under the Search Forums button on the top right of your web page - when your in the Forums). With the advanced feature you can search for things within a specific time line, and you can even select the specific forum that you'd like to find something in.

If you want to find a specific forum really quickly... here's a quick tip for how to do it:

When using the 'Search in Forums' feature in advanced search (this is the scrollable box with all the forum titles in it on the right of the advanced search page) pull your mouse's cursor over any forum title in the box and click so it is highlighted.

Then, start spelling out the specific forum you're looking for. So, for example I clicked in the box, and started typing R-O-S-E-S and it automatically jumps to the Roses forum.

Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback. We'll let you know any updates as they come in...

Happy searching (-:

Woo Hoo ... this is Wonderful! Thanks so much for this great feature ... I've been playing around with searching and LOVE IT!

Thanks again to the Tech Team and all involved ... You all Rock!

So....If I put in the search...SWM....with Motorhome....Never mind~!!

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Thanks so very much for this great search engine.

(Zone 1)

RR ... LOL, oh, that is so cute! I'm "older" and apparently VERY blonde because I had to read your statement a couple of times before it sunk in! ^_^

In Advanced Search, there is a field called "Search in forum(s)" which has a list attached from which we are to choose. NONE of the items in the list are the specific, unique names of ANY of the forums, thereby rendering that field fairly useless.

In addition, is this a boolean search engine? Can we use quotes, minus signs, etc. to give our search more meaning? Is there a tutorial telling us how this search engine works? If so, where is it?

Is there something I'm missing?

Quoting:

that field is very powerful - you can choose to search in one particular forum, all forums (the default) or pick-and-choose two or more forums to limit your searching to. you can also pick a category of forums (all related to cooking, for example)

I beileve it does use Boolean logic. And yes, we are working on some instructions and we'll be adding those to some FAQs soon.

Unlike the old advanced search, I am having difficulty searching for specifically "any" photo posted in the PlantFiles by any one person of a given Genus.
(ie., If I wanted a list of all the photos I have uploaded into the PlantFiles that were Tephrocactus, I would enter the delimiters "Xenomorf", "Plant Files Pictures", "Tephrocactus")
Is this possible with this new search feature?

Xeno.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Then I just can't figure out how the Advanced Search works. As a test I typed in "Lapeirousia" in the "search forums for" field and "bulbs" in the "search in forum(s)" field and got NO results. I should have gotten at least one result.
