PlantFiles has grown from under 100 plants when I joined DG to over 180,000 plants today. It is the largest database of plants in the world, and it continues to grow every hour of every day, month after month, year after year.

Its growth and success comes from the many thousands of people who share what they know, in pictures and words - thank you to each of you who have played a part in this amazing feat. There is also a small team of editors who make sure that what is submitted is accurate and valid.

These editors work diligently to field questions from visitors and members, and act on the error reports that many of us submit, keeping PlantFiles listings as updated and accurate as possible.

It's a true labor of love (as those who have been in that role can attest to). On one hand, it is rewarding to gain more botanical and technical knowledge, and there are a few perks that go with the role. On the other hand, it's also a role that also requires diligent research, diplomacy and a willingness to listen to constructive criticism with an open mind.
