Nanny, your photo of that female cardinal is beautiful with just a dash of sunlight on her. Of course the male is always a beauty too.

GP, congratulations on the Red-breasted Grosbeak sighting. He sure is a beauty. What is the third bird in your "woodpecker love" photo. I'd guess a small hawk? Wowsers on all your birds. Love them all.

Thanks Lily and duc.....just two birds in that pic...has to be a wing.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Thanks everyone, and your welcome on the new thread.GP thanks for the tip, I didn't think of that, and will certainly try it. I had fashioned one with a Kitty litter lid at one time, will try to get it together again. Really nice pictures you've posted, that Bunting is so handsome. Congratulation on the Rose Breasted Grosbeak.
Duc, you've got some good looking Oriole at your place, and the Tree Swallows are real pretty birds. can't wait for their return in May.
Lily, oh how fortunate you are, with the Red-headed WP making their home at your place. Would love to see them in person.

This little Song Sparrow is fun to have around.

Nice pics tiger

Light was a little better today (overcast but no rain) so I decided to steal a page from rockminers book and do a spread on the species (12) that I see from my front porch this time of the year.

It's okay adel. Looks like you had a nice birding day too!

Not a great photo, but the Lincoln's Sparrow at least allowed me to get a shot.

Tiger.....looks like your new camera is working out well for you. Could that be a Hermit Thrush?

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

Probably, but I was hoping Swainson's.

Hermit, going by the white eye ring and rusty tail.

Guess I'll pass on this one! Those Empidonax flycatchers are effectively impossible without songs/calls.

Duc, here is one more reason to hate the grackles. I guess I shouldn't care if one European bird is killing another one, but it's just so awful. I've seen them attacking other birds.

This morning I was watching a sparrow feeding a young one on a branch and a grackle swooped down on them and chased the baby from tree to tree until it finally killed it. Then it carried it to the bog filter of my pond and started eating it. I went outside and it flew off. When I went to check, there were two dead birds in the water.

I know that's how nature works, but I don't like it. I've been leaving the grackles alone because it's migrating season and I don't want to scare away migrating birds, but as of today, I'm chasing off every grackle I can find!

Here's a pic of the dead birds.

Burn, your little Song Sparrow is beautiful.

Tigerlily, wowsers on your Wilson's Warbler. What a wonderful photo it makes! Cute Thrush and Flycatcher too. Love that Chickadee too.

Adel, I have the same birds here now too and we're quite a distance away from you. Love that photo of the Steller's together. I can't get mine to come that close.

Elphaba, I'm so very sorry you had to witness such a horrible act of nature. I can truly understand how you feel. Life can be so cruel sometimes.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

My goodness. Elphaba, I'm truly sorry you've to witness such terrible act of nature. I had no idea Grackles would be such menace to little songbirds.
