This one was trying to climb up on the lily pad. Not big enough yet to hold him! Funny to watch!

I love when they just hang out on the surface of the water. Those legs look like a human just treading water. So cute!!

I love Bubba! This pic is of a frog that showed up today. It is hard to see in the picture but he is huge. Hope he sticks around and eats lots of bugs! Looks like he has not missed a meal!

Man, he is HUGE!

It still amazes me that all of my other bull frogs are so shy! Bubba is the only one who we get to see. I do have 3 or 4 green tree frogs that my DH is ready to shoot! One of them was on the porch last night and I had to go and track him down and return him to the pond with his buddies. They are SO loud!! But I love them!! One of my daughter's friends was spending the night on Sat and wanted to know if we had ducks!!! She couldn't believe that was a tiny frong making that noise!

Mission Viejo, CA(Zone 9b)

Mine will eat grubs from forceps. They are not at all shy. I'm always sticking a camera in their faces. I keep hoping my neighbors never complain!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Ooooh! I'll have to find some grubs for Bubba! I bet he'd LOVE those!

Mission Viejo, CA(Zone 9b)

I see the tadpole have developed tiny back legs today!

I get grubs from the compost pile. I think they are the other form of those metallic green fig beetles.

Cute tadpole. It is great to watch them grow.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Isn't it just absolutely amazing that this little thing has to live in water and then it changes to breathing air??? I've got 3 or 4 fat tadpoles in varying stages of transformation.

Mission Viejo, CA(Zone 9b)

It is very cool! Life is amazing!

Baylis, IL(Zone 6a)

I just dug my pond this spring. So far I have what I call a bubble gum frogs, leopard frogs, bull frogs a million tadpoles! And the tree frogs!

Nice! You must be doing something right for them to come in droves!

I can count of this little guy to be hanging out in a pot of Iris's every day.

Wow, love the frog pics...my frogs appear to be very shy. I hardly get to see them now that I've moved them out of my classroom and into my pond at home.

Mission Viejo, CA(Zone 9b)

Feed them grubs and snails and that should change. My frogs love food!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Do they like the snails in the shell?

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

With some butter, parsley and garlic! Escargot!

Mission Viejo, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, the shell. I just throw the snails on a plant on the edge of the pond and the frogs eat them. Usually the frogs hunt on the hill behind by pond and really control the snails in the yard. Right now though my frogs are singing. I see a new patch of eggs from last night. So they seem to focus on staying close to the pond and protecting their area. They eat snails shell and all. Koi love snails as well. Though that is a rough death for the snail.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Wow I love frogs, and you guys have a good assortment of them, even naming them. I will have to find a name for mine.
I don't know if I got a boy or a girl. Any way to tell?

I overwintered this one and a friend of his/hers in a Rubbermaid tub along with my fish in the garage last winter. My pond is not deep enough to keep fish or frogs in. The ground was already frozen by the time I emptied it to get the fishes, and the 2 frogs were in there with them.

Do they eat aquatic snails?

Mission Viejo, CA(Zone 9b)

If the ear and the eye are the same size I've read that the frog is a female. If the ear is much larger than the eye it is a male. Only Male bull frogs sing. I had apple snails now I don't. I have saw one of my Bullfrogs eat A BIRD. I've read they eat mice, birds, lizards... I don't think they care . If it moves, bull frogs will try to eat it.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

My mom was over her neighbor's house last summer and was watching a little bird on the edge of his pond when all of a sudden, his big bullfrog jumped out of the water and gobbled up the bird! She ran to the pond but he had taken it down to the bottom and was gone. Oh well, it's the food chain in full motion! Glad I didn't see it though.....

Mission Viejo, CA(Zone 9b)

I hear you! I love nature but at times it is horrifying!
