Garden Projects 4 - 2010

No snow in Calgary? Who would've thunk it?

Jen, yes I like the idea of bulbs. I think I want to be like Patti and have bulbs all over this whole area!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOVE Wolf Eyes

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Me too. Can't wait till it's all grown up :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looks like a big job, Christina. Nice car!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Planted the 'replacements' for the removed dead JM. Re-leafed cornus, cryptomeria and the witch hazel. I made the right decision not to remove the tree last year. Gave the plants underneath an extra year of growth and a chance to transition to more sun exposure. The wet, cloudy spring/early summer helped too. I am leaving the Kumson forsythia higher and leggier than I normally would because it does provide some protection for the JM's and gold hydrangea.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

It feels like a big job too! Thankfully, this is the last section of the yard that needs a total overhaul.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

WOWSER you got alot done Songs!

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Wow, that is a huge amount of work. I feel tired just looking at it. It looks great, though, and your front yard has a lot of interest. I have put absolutely ZERO effort into my front yard because I hate being out there. If we lived in a more secluded spot, I'd probably make more of an effort. I like to garden in privacy, lol.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Mine is pretty low maintenance for that reason too Noreaster. I'm putting in a wall though when we rip out the driveway to make it more private.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

My goodness you did a lot and it sure is looking good already. Good for you and a nice soak in the tub is definitely well deserved. That is hard work planting all that on a slope, big applause for sure. Rest up now you deserve it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

dnut i would not put plastic down - what i might do is dig around those two water suckers trim the roots and put a hard plastic barrier around them to keep them at bay - a lot of work though.

speaking of a lot of work - soj that project is a lot of work and looks like it will look great! i have a wolfs eye with lots of buds on it they seem to grow fast once established - mine has been in ground 2 years.

got the stones in and more beds mulched today - need to get the hose going to clean off the rocks before they are picture ready.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I totally agree. That's exactly why I've neglected the front yard all these years!l. My street is pretty quiet but I'd still rather the seclusion of my backyard.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG wha no way I could I do that tree thing myself. I think I will just put down soaked newspapers and hope that helps.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

That looks terrific, Christina!!! As everyone else has said....what a lot of hard work! Now you can sit back and enjoy the spreading and the blooms every time you return home and drive by it. Nice new addition too!

The way our property is, the backyard is kind of elevated, which I hate because I always feel like I'm on display back there to the neighbors or even anyone driving down the street. I'd kill to be able to bend over and not worry if the whole world is seeing my underwear! I want to put up a 15 foot high privacy fence around the whole yard!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I kind of hinted to Randy how I want to make the one bed bigger... I figured if I went extreme on how much bigger.. he would settle for where I really wanted it to be anyway... LOL... still working on it

Thomaston, CT

Lots of super looking projects! SOJ, you can add some dianthus to your per. bed...it's a low grower, & some form nice mats to hold the soil.

Bill - in addition to the colors and veins, I really like the shape of each one of these. Very nice!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Ditto DonnieB! I think that little one at the back of pic #3 might fit in a suitcase. (I have made a note about that in the Great Book of Lists for when I come for Woodstock tee, hee).

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

oh no you don't!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

The Plan: 1) Walk the Great Wall of Wha leaving Bernard Calibeaut chocholates along the way 2) Tour the garden and stop to check on the cool snakes in the pond while wha is being lulled by chocolate 3) Scatter a bag of leaves on Mr. Neat and Tidy's bed on the OTHER side of the house from the covetted rock and yell: "OMG wha, look what that bad ole cat has done!". 4) Run really fast to the covetted rock 5) Scoop the covetted rock 6) Run away really fast. I know. Don't tell me. I should have been an international jewel thief. Just one of my many brilliant plans
