yes Betty we had thunder storms for a few days lots of rain.. yet still not enough as i had to water yesterday.. Another ones is coming today.. I have a few of my canna roots popping up and most of my seeds are starting too..
wow Linda glad hes ok.. My three dogs eat sticks too, the mulch out of the garden.. Every so ofter they start to just drool, thats when i know its a stick stuck.. Its always wedged between there teeth, there not really big sticks, so nothing to get lodged in there throat hopefully, if not I know what to look for...
M theres a lady down the block that has peonies and wow they are so pretty all bloomed.. Hers are like a purple color..
anyways off to eat everything lol

What's Happening in your neck of the woods? Friends...
Snow over night here again - wondering if this is going to continue all 'spring' think this is the 3-4 time in past month ! I usually go plant shopping this week but the porch is full of planter s with bulbs and plants for containers and I cant put them out yet so I cant go buy anything else. Maybe move some of them into the shower in the main floor bath, no walls so lots of light there!
Can't believe Jen how much ahead of us you are..I'm thrilled, I think I planted 2 peony last summer, thought they were all but dead but if my journal re location is right, I've 2 about 1 ft. high...I'm so hoping I'll one day have peonies..
it's now 23 here, beautiful day..going to McDonalds for lunch..they have a deal that a % goes to help young children with medical needs...so it's a must!
My kittie has been eating all my indoor plants, wondered why they seem to be dying, would find leaves and sections of plants on the floor, wondered why, this morning I caught him so guess I'll put them outside on the deck in hopes he's got a lot of green to eat and will leave them along...
Betty I always have to be careful when I had plants in the porch in spring that nothing that looked like grass was accessible from the bench . Chelsea and Jazz would both climb up to munch!
A different issue this week - my potatoes came, I have 4 each of 5 different kinds and I have put them on pot saucers, labeled hoping the eyes will continue to sprout.. Was putting them out on the table in the porch when I realised I had to be sure they were not within reach of Fancy;s mouth! Would not have been happy if they had disappeared as I can't now get any more.
Believe me Betty this is not normal, usually we dont get seeds planted till the end of may.. This year it came very early.. Normally I would be starting things indoors right now, I havent moved anything into the garage in a few weeks.. Hardy hibiscus in this area I'm told come up the first of june mine are already starting.. Were hoping this means a warm summer...
This is some of the stuff, my daylillies are crazy now but there not on here
jen
I'm envious, I'll take photo of my seedlings when I get home tonight..I planted sunflowers for example, the stalk is so lump they are now laying down and I did transplant into bigger containers...how do you guys do it??? hmmm.. I seem to do well and then they just die before it's warm enough to be put into the ground..
Jen I love your journal..is it a special program you have or a site??? I can see you are computer literate..
WOOT WOOT .. YIP YIP YIPPEE !!! We have a steady and continuous downpour for over 2 hours .. I swear I can see the leaves folding out !!!
Love the Scrapbooking Jen .. sure hope you have started one and will keep up with it after your wee one arrives ..
Swimming was great .. but .. have decided I am going to HAVE to have my haircut so I don't have to fuss with it after ..
ECHOES .. if you read this .. thinkin boutcha ^_^
TTFN
~M~
Betty its microsoft picture it photo 7, but you can use any photo shop or paint shop program.. I get all the page decor for a web site where its free daily for different things.. I've been doing it since 2004..
M yes I have a book for each year huby and i have been together (2004- now) then I have an ABC pregnancy book, every 2 weeks I do another picture and it all goes along with the alphabet so the delivery will be at the end y and z.. I also have one all ready for the babies first year again ABC, so every 2 weeks for a full year 26 letters so theres a few that will be 2 pages..
This year all my seeds were started outside.. Betty yours are leggy cause they are growing to reach light, maybe move your light closer to the pot, also you need to have a fan in there too so they are not week and break when you put them outdoors.. I find most of mine get leggy when i plant them indoors, so now i just wait till there ready to go outside..
My ankles are so swollen today 3 8 hour shifts in a row killed me, I usually only work 4's.. I just wanna go to bed lol..
More rain today, and some coming tonight.. Tomorrow is finally my day off well till next week I'm done... Hopefully its a nice day..
jen
Rained all night as well, blue sky when I drove in but it's starting to pour..even heard the weatherman say " chance of snow on Saturday in my neck of the woods" please tell me you didn't send it my way..
Told Bernie that I was angry with his friend Ted who so kindly brought me all the materials for my garden shed as it has rained every weekend since..drats, my boys come and spend Saturday for Mothers' Day to get everything done on my 'to do' list..everything is outside and now rain/snow..can I put off Mother's Day to another weekend perhaps?..they told me to go check a patio set for under the gazebo, went to Canadian Tire, don't want to spend a fortune because it is for outside and I replace every few years..they had one on sale, checked it out this morning, really not that great but then again it was only $299.99..maybe I should up the ante and get a better one...better not do that or the boys will think I'm not satisfied with their choice...I rarely take time to sit so really it doesn't matter....
I go painting with the girls tonight..going to try my hand at pencil drawing..don't want to invest too much in the color pencils as it's not something I'm into but will give it a try.....as I packed my materials, I went into my bedroom and had to take a photo..on this cold and dreary day, both Missy and Riley have made themselves comfy, went to get my camera and was sneaking back into the room and old Sailor girl was eyeing the middle of the bed...no wonder I've been finding sand..lol
Lovely quilt Betty!
More snow last night but the sun is out so maybe it will start to melt. I just moved my 'greenhouse' into the porch ( one of those cheap things with plastic covers- it fits just right so I am going to try to find another and next year instead of putting up a table for plants I will have the two greenhouses! Getting smart in my old age!
Off later to a wonderful little nursery nearby to buy my annual purchase of Hepaticas- hoping to get all pink ones this year as I seem to have mostly blue. And then since I now have more space for plants in the porch I will go to Cdn Tire - everyting is still on sale but probably nt after this weekend!
Betty .. such sweet kitter pusses ^_^
Right now, we are SO into watching for TICKS .. has never been a problem before .. but had Lilly for her annual check up today and he told us the ticks are numerous this year due to a dry winter .. so .. I have some pamphlets to read re 2 products we can apply to Lilly to help ward them off ... Smokey is kinda easy to check out ..
COOL day here, NO rain .. but sun was nice ... Lorna has to decrease the use of her prosthesis a bit until she can get in to see the prosthetist in mid May to have it re adjusted ... it's at times like this living in a small city does NOT pay as there is ONE fella looking after MANY amputees with prostheses.
What does that look like in your areas? I;m almost considering going TO another city .. kind of hard to watch someone being so mobile and happy being set back because of a lack of services. Tell ya what .. if I had a child, grandchild, niece, nephew, cousin , child of a friend wondering where to set their life course .. well ..I would NOT hesitate to suggest prosthetic work .. it's gratifying work .. and .. BUSY .. !!!
Supposedly hitting -2C here tonight .. going swimming in the morning, then home to commence what's left of the house cleaning .. love having company, but kinda dislike all the extra 'hoo haa' that goes along with it .. hoping 2 weeks goes by quite quickly ~
Off to move some furniture ..
Take care
~M~
more rain is on the way for tomorrow.. Hopefully nothing to crazy, I put all my seedlings under the gazebo top so they dont to damaged.. Hope the sun is out this weekend, the last few its been pretty crummy..
I HATE TICKS!!!! we bought tick stuff for the dogs a few years ago the stuff that goes on there back (forget the name) Anyways we though it would be fine, so we brought them to Peche island its like a nature walk park.. Well the next day i woke up and I had one in my head at the back of my hair line.. Not a nice thing to see after you scratch.. I freaked out!!! Lucky for me its wasn't inbeded, but i did have swollen limp notes for a while..
Hubby another time found one crawling on his arm when he was trying to sleep.. I guess that stuff really worked for dogs, cause the tick just bit us instead lol
My male dog today broke his dewclaw off today.. i dont know what he did, well its down to the meat but its not bleeding so he will be fine.. Poor little guy...
Off this morning in search of another mini greenhouse, found one, bought a few plants at Cdn Tire+ and got things set up in the porch. Much nicer than the table I was using although the plants probably got a bit more light on the table. The porch faces east and the wall is almost all windows so sunny in the morning.
Treated myself to a hanging fuschia.
-2 last night at my house, nippy today although the sun has been in and out all day. Sure hope it is starting to warmup.
Tomorrow I am at a diabetic workshop all day, finding out how to manage my diabetes. Fortunately it is just a few minutes walk away where I used to work.
Will have to get up early- not my favorite thing to do - to walk the dogs!
Oh fancyvan I wish i had those greenhouses.. I keep saying I'm going to get them, and something else always gets purchased instead.. Dont really have room for them anyhow...
They are sure handy. I leave one up outside all winter and store a lot of pots in it instead of shoving them all in the shed.
Don .. thank so much :-) Same to you ..
On 'tenterhooks' here .. MAY have a line on a Westie puppy in SAULT STE MARIE !! Had Lilly at the airport today meeting Lorna's folks and a fella asked me if Lilly was from a breeder in the Soo .. I said no and he said he knew of one there that he was planning to get a pup from next year .. alas .. his flight was called and off he went, BUT, I had a name and a COMPUTER LoL
After serving brunch and chit chatting I began my search .. and .. through a twisted route I did manage to find the fellow and call him and (UGgggggggggg) leave a message !! He apparently has a litter aged 6 weeks .. not sure the make up of the litter vis a vis male/female ... awaiting his call back .. The Soo is about 700K east ..
I must be crazy LoL
Awesome weather, albeit cool ... keeps the skitters at bay !!!
Enjoy your upcoming week everyone
~M~
^_^
Happy Mothers' Day everyone...
Computer was down, thank goodness I've been busy, between myself and the boys all my projects are complete..
BRRR, torrential rain, high winds and snow yesterday, today windy and quite cool..good for working I guess but now I'm chilled to the bone and now that the family have left it's off for a hot bath..
Look forward to hearing about YOUR day..
God bless you and yours on this special day...
Hi all ..
Sunny, sunny, sunny kinda sums up the weather here in TBay .. not the warmest of temps though, AND, no rain ~~~
Well .. we travel to Sault Ste Marie at the beginning of July to pick up our new Westie pup ^_^
It will be a little boy, right now, we have named him 'Piper' .. but, that could change ..
Not quite sure how Lilly will handle this .. hopefully she'll be OK with having a little one in HER space.
The visit is going well .. Lorna's parents are happy to be here .. and I am cookin up a storm .. I pretty much fall into bed in the evenings ..course .. me being me, just because I have gone to bed, does NOT mean my brain goes to sleep !!!
Hope all are well

M we got my male Rolo 5 and a a half years ago then 6 months later we decided we wanted a female too.. So we searched to find one and when Rolo was a little over 6 months we brought home Snickers.. Rolo would growl at her and he wouldn't come out of the bedroom for 4 days. We even had to bring him in some food and water cause we got worried.. After those 4 days he slowly started to come out, we would be laughing at Snickers or playing and he would come cause he wanted some attention too.. Well they soon were best of friends and still are today.. We bread snickers and rolo a few times and kept a puppy "Twixie".. Sadly she was only with us for 13 months she had a bad fall and never woke up.. Only a few months after that Snickers had her last litter and we decided to keep another little one.. Reese the smallest female. They are all best of friends, they play all day..
hopefully ours will get along too
jen
"M" so pleased to hear you found your 'Westie' might take a little adjustment but am sure they'll become best of friends...
got to tell you I know about the going to bed and mind not stopping, lordy it's like working 2-12 hr. shifts...if only I could see an end product when I wake up.. bet Lorna's parents are feeling relieved seeing how much she's improved...
Jen, how is the pregnancy going??? just a little tidbit..I'm planning a trip to Ohio end of June, quick weekend trip to meet up with a bunch of DG friends, I'll leave work at 3:00 here in Barrie (as far as I know I won't take more time unless of course the boss offers..lol) so will be in Windsor around 9:00pm, will spend the night with a cousin...maybe you could sneak out for a coffee at Tim's????
It's 9 degrees here, overcast, one just doesn't know how to dress, each and every day brings in 4 seasons!!! I have about 12 girls coming on Sunday to do 3 projects, all of which are outside projects, can just see us all in the rain..about 10 times a day I go to the weather network and check what Sunday will bring..so far so good...mind boggling, just not sure of how I get myself into such a tizzy???
betty keep me posted on the dates and I'll see what i can do.. Its going well only 12 weeks left, and its just flying by..
weather here isn;t to nice this week rain all week, but cant complain we needed the spring rain..
off to cook dinner might be back later
jen
They were calling for rain here on Friday Jen, but it's moving in quicker than anticipated , rain both Thurs. and Friday, but that's ok...calling for cool but sunny conditions for Saturday and think same for Sat. but hight of 20...
Won't be long Jen, 12 weeks go by so quickly, you'll be home enjoying the pool and the little one in the heat of the summer..did you time this to have the summer off? lol
lol nope not at all, We started talking about it during thanksgiving, 6 weeks later I was pregnant.. People told me it could take up to a year for it to happen, but not for me.. When i found out i was due in july my first though was wow its gonna be hot.. Then after some time i realized that every year for its birthday if family or friends come over they can just go outside.. After that i was fine with it.. In fact i would like to have all my babies in the summer now (well were only planing for two) If everything goes to plan, i will be done work june 24, 2010 and off till june 2011 :) so this year its the hot summer off, and next year its gardening season off.. I win both ways..
I really hope if flies by, i'm so ready for this little one now.. I dont know how I'm going to wait 12 more weeks..
You never know Jen, some babies come early, both of mine 3 weeks early, but then, boohoo, some come late..bet you wanted to hear that didn't you.. I have one son born Jan.1st and the other Dec. 8th of same year..didn't plan that well..poor Greg, only birthday celebration he usually has is with everyone celebrating New Years, and Jeff, normally everyone busy getting ready for Christmas..sure did not plan that well..one thing though Greg always has the day off...lol...
I can hardly see my computer screen, sun beaming in..just walked the gardens, lordy it's pretty out there and more to come..I've double deep purple lilacs, looks as though they could be in full bloom for the weekend, nothing like smelling lilacs through the house..
Sure wish I could stay home today....I'm slow moving, just made a list of what I still need for weekend workshop, maybe tonight I'll get most of it done so that tomorrow when we get off at 3 I can cut grass IF they are wrong with our having rain...
Enjoy your day everyone..
LILACS !!!! Wow .. TBay MAYBE has some buds .. out my way .. the bushes are 'thinking' about it ~~
I have managed to plant a flat of gorgeous pansies .. my gosh how I do so like their colourful little faces. Make me smile.
Jen .. I wish you a fleet 3rd trimester .. an uneventful delivery and a healthy and happy baby ^_^
I see your pups a dogs are all named after chocolate bars ... SWEET ... LoL
Have been trying to think of a masculine name to go with Lilly .. that would be flower related .. there'a s toughie !!
A bit overcast this morning .. rain has been promised, whether it materializes or not is anyones best guess .. of course, it's windy.
Taking the folks OUT to eat today .. give me a break .. tomorrow I am having 10 guests for lunch .. am SO happy I bought that dishwasher !!!
Hope everyone enjoys their Thursday ^_^
~M~
Betty lol my Papa's birthday is jan 1st also..
M they are when we got rolo we named him after my favorite ice cream, well I was talking about it and hubby said that would be a great name for the dog.. All of our dogs were named before they were even seen lol.. Yes after flower would be hard to name a male dog.. I cant even think of any..
Well its raining again today, I was woke up by thunder, which sounded like the earth split in two... Hubby has had to drain the pool a bit every two days. He just did it yesterday and he'll have to get out there again tonight..
well off to clean :(
jen
WE HAVE RAIN ... wooooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooo :-)
Now you can see the greenery blasting out !!!
Have put a post on the Pet Forum for help with names .. am thinking I'll likely keep 'Piper' but add either McDuff or calle him 'Palmers Piper' .. Palmer is the breeder ..
Awesome lunch out today .. great day to just kick back and schmooze ^_^
~M~
I'm still lurking.I got anew hearing aide and am enjoying all the sounds that have been missing.I thought my Siamese had lose his voice in his old age but have found it is still loud and clear. The weather here continues to be cold. That north wind really cools things down. The tulips have lasted well with the cool weather. Love to hear of all your activities. It makes me feel old and useless. You are so involved in helping each other. JOY
JOY! Joy! joy! no more of this old lady stuff and feeling useless, we all go through stages, this just happens to be my energetic stage, I'm sure soon I'll be too tired to poop and won't do a think...
Look at those gardens..what color are your wild geraniums?
I was always amazed at my dad Joy, kept saying we girls mumbled a lot, kept telling him he was going deaf but he did not believe a word we were staying..once he got the hearing aid he was telling us to stop our shouting..
Bet you are enjoying listening to the birdies sing aren't you..
I still have a few tulips but imagine by the weekend they'll all but be done..
It's pouring rain here tonight, Friday is to be the same, sure hope so, I'm in maga trouble if it rains Sunda...yikes, don't know how I get myself into so much mischief...that's just me, if all goes well with the class on Sunday I'll be patting myself on the back..
Had intentions of doing all kinds of things tonight but decided as it was cold and rainy to have a bath, get into my jammies and do nothing..
"M" those are nice names but bet as soon as you see him a name will jump right up at you, just like when we had our children..
Ooooh had corn tonight for the 1st time, not the best but corn is my favorite so to me it was a treat..of course knowing I was going to have mega butter I bought diet cookies instead of a regular treat..trade of..you have to do what you have to do right?
Off to make a coffee, have one of those cookies and see if I can find a movie to watch...alternative is to close my eyes and have an early night...which shall it be?
Been a few days since I was online. Thanks for all the compliments. I feel like pinching myself a lot. Made our first stir fry with greens I started under the plastic in March. Weather has turned cold and cloudy/rainy a lot. More normal for NS really. That warm spell and then the weather guys predicted the next 3 months to be above avr temps and below avr precip. the minute they did at all changed for the worse. I do wonder why I continue to pay any attention to weather forecasts. today was supposed to be cloudy with showers maybe clearing in the afternoon and it was sunny all day.
One good thing about the cooler temps is my many daffodils are lasting beautifully and the slugs have retreated from their/MY salad bar. Going to try neem oil on the little bugs that are eating my rhodo.
Watching all the perennials to see what has survived their first winter in my garden. Most are fairly predictable. One that has surprised me is a 'candy stripe' creeping phlox that went from a little styrofoam cup size to at least a med/lg pizza size. there's also a bee balm that's trying to overrun a poor astilbe 12 in away. The joys of 'garden wars'.... hmmm... new realty show?..... maybe not.......
Lee
The white flowers are violets that volunteered to make the border. The geraniums are pink. I am an oldl an old lady 81.I don't know about the lady stuff. JOY
Speaking of birdies. I have 2 ducks that fly in off the lake to land on the ground under my feeders that are up on the deck. Never thought of ducks as feeder visitors. Quite amusing. Have 2 blue jays squawking until I but peanuts along the deck rail. Think I may live to regret encouraging them.
Oh Marilyn there is the saddest looking little Westie in Calgary Animal Control (http://www.calgary.ca/portal/server.pt?space=Opener&control=OpenObject&cached=true&parentname=CommunityPage&parentid=5&in_hi_ClassID=512&in_hi_userid=2&in_hi_ObjectID=267&in_hi_OpenerMode=2&) They think he is about 13 years ld and looks like he has some kind of skin condition, coat is very short and patches of skin visable. Makes me want to run over and adopt him but he is not available- just brought in today
Lee, ever since I started gardening my thoughts have turned to the weather .. is it too cold for my pretties, do they have enough water, will the rain pound them into the ground..lol..worry more about the plants than I did for my boys...just goes to show you how we become 'keepers' for Mother Nature...
Rained all day yesterday and all night, sun is trying to peek through..just checked said rain later today so hoping by the time I leave for home at 3:00pm I'll be able to get the grass cut before it starts...
Need to stop at the nursery to pick up plants/trailers for my tipsy/turvy pots..heard advertisement on the radio that Canadian Tire had wave petunia's for 99 cents..dropped in and picked up 12 now I'm thinking of going back for more..rarely do you see them that cheap..
One of the projects the gang of ladies coming Sunday wanted to do was the topsy/turvy stand, well, my darling brother Bernie made me 12 yesterday, only thing he didn't add was the fins to hold it in the pot..they've only 6 screws to add and they can take them home..there went that project..he just didn't think 10 ladies not knowing how to hold a welding torch should be playing with it..I'm sure they will appreciate it..
have everything organized so as long as Mother Nature doesn't throw me a curve and rain when she says it will be 20 then I'll be ok..
Joy, those are beautiful white violets, did you transplant them so they could edge your garden..have to check today at the nursery to see if they have any???
Ahhh Carol, you are a dear, I'm sure you'd take every dog home with you if you could..
Have you heard the news lately on the OSPCA re putting down over 350 animals..quite the 'to do' think before it was stopped they almost put 100 down...big investigation..said it was an unusual strain of ringworm..
Yes Betty I have been following that story on the Rescue Dogs in Canada site.
Cant understand why something was not done before it got so bad. Apparently there are many breed rescue groups in the area and most of these dogs could have been fostered out early on until they figured out what was going on.Also the rescue groups are saying many of them completed application forms for the SPCA so they could have dogs turned over to them ( on a regular basis) but never had any further contact from the SPCA.
The little Westie 'disappeared' off the website last night so probably the owner came to get him. There has been a sheltie cross posted since Tuesday so I am keeping an eye on it - if they know the owner they wait 10 days before putting up for adoption.
We are having some wonderful warm weather here and has not gone below freezing last 2 nights! Lovely to spend time out in the yard, working at getting some of the perennials I bought last week in the ground and byu then most everything should be up and I can see what else I need on my next garden centre excursion.
Maybe the owner could do without him..
Saw on the news this morning your weather, much better than ours but anything is better than 4 days of rain a week...last night I was looking out the window and the greens were of such brilliant colors, omg what rain does to the plants..this morning I took all of the boxes of plants that I had in the spare room and put them on the back deck to get them used to being outside, I'll let them get some of tonights rain, should help...
As for the OSPCA, the news this morning was saying that over 100 were in foster homes and possibly would have been recalled expect for all this outrage...am sure someone's job will be on the line for the decision they made...
Good luck with your gardening...
well today was another nice one.. Hubby and i got all the mulch laid in the side garden. He dug a trench for the new garden, and sprayed some stuff to hopefully kill the grass where the new garden will go.. It was alot of work, I had knee pads on and was on my knees moving mulch with my hands all day.. I tell ya its was alot easier when i could use a rake.. My back is so sore, I'll be in bed early tonight.. But over all I think it turned out great.. Now just a week or two till the grass is dead and we can lay the dirt, then mulch on that part..
jen
Lots of work Jen...looking forward to seeing the progress..
Just peeked outside, overcast but still calling for the sun to shine although cold..
I'm ready for the 10 -12 girls who will be arriving at 8:30 this morning for a fun day..all supplies are in order so should make for an easy day of teaching...managed to get all but 4 flower beds edged and some weeding done...
Seems there is always something to do when one lives on their own...
Hope your day will be filled with sunshine...enjoy the day!
