Hiya, rockminer, glad to meet you. Thanks for VA_Wild_Rose's ID.

Yahoo - another Lifer for me. Here's my first ever Hairy Woodpecker. When I first saw it, it was the absence of black spots on the side margins of the tail feathers that made me think "Hairy Wp". It also has a larger bill than a Downy.

Thanks go to Resin for confirming the ID for me.

Great job Hack!!! Great shots too!

Congrats on your new "lifer" Hack.

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks, VA_Wild_Rose and Lily_love, I've been wondering when I was gonna get a Hairy Wp, after all, they're in my Ga bird Book.

Here's the female Red-bellied Woodpecker I've been seeing - I guess its the same one.

Holy Cow! How did I almost miss an entire thread?! Hack, fab start. I'm going to a place next weekend where I've seen Indigo Buntings. I'm hoping to see them again. I've never gotten a picture of a male and I've only gotten one lousy pic of a female. I have my fingers crossed.

Everybody, I love your photos on this thread and the last. Since I'm about 100 posts behind, I'll just have to group my praise in one WOW!

This was almost the pic of a lifetime. I was focusing on this Golden-Crowned Night Heron's nest when she left the nest and came at me. Stopped on a branch in front of me and squawked. I was zoomed out too far and her feet got cut off. It's a little over exposed too. I only got this one shot and then she stopped and looked quite embarrassed about her outburst.

Really, if she didn't want people looking at her nest, she shouldn't have made it so close to the path. It was well hidden though. Most people would probably walk by without seeing it.

I know that I'm attributing a human emotion to a bird, but still doesn't she look embarrassed?

Saw these two Roseate Spoonbills fly overhead. Didn't see any more of them though.

Black-bellied Whistling Ducks are back.

Ibis were everywhere. Unbelievable. Oh, and GP, they were flying in formation too! Can't believe that I either didn't see it or didn't register it before I saw your photo.

Nice normal picture of a Little Blue Heron.

Little Blue Heron pic that cracked me up. He's in the tree above me looking down at me while I try to find a hole in the foliage through which to take his picture. Aren't his eyes weird looking?

I think this is the last one that I'll share, a Red-winged Blackbird.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

OK, I lied. One more. It's not a very good pic, but it will give you some idea of the massive number of Ibis.

Lin, Nice shot of the Red-bellied Woodpecker!

Lily, Very nice video of the Cliff Swallows!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Thats a shame about the Red-headed Woodpeckers nest. Darn Tree rats. :-(

Hi rockminer, Good to see you! Come back often!

Hack, Congrats on another Lifer! Nice shots!

Elphaba, wonderful shots of the Golden-crowned Night Heron! Yes in the 2nd she does look embarressed. Beautiful Whistling Ducks and nice catch on the Spoonbill's! It's good to see the Little Blue Heron and that Red-winged Blackbird is very handsome! Wow that is a lot of Ibis!!!

Yesterday I had a Myrtle Warbler coming in for suet all day long which was nice but haven't seen her today. A pretty little Chipping Sparrow made a few appearances this morning. I thought my Dark-eyed Junco's were gone but there are still a few here today.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Gee, so many wonderful photos that I can't keep up!! I sure get behind when my DH needs my computer for half a day. Anyway, love all your photos!

Some of the younger Scrub Jays seem to be staying around our house and it's such fun to watch them chase each other.

The cold, rainy days we're having are really beginning to show on some of the birds, especially the newly arrived Bullock's Orioles.

This male is giving the poor female the "look".

I guess that meant he gets to eat first.

Finally, she gets a turn after he leaves.

Hope your weather improves soon!

Here are some pics from my yard earlier today. Please excuse the quality but trying to work with a tripod from a wheelchair just doesn't work well. ;-)

Please help with these next two... (Resin???)

Not sure who he is but he sure is attractive!

Temminck's Tragopan, from southern China. Do a google search for pics of its display posture, very spectacular (seen it on film)

PS for anyone interested in astronomy, Venus and Mercury are visible close together in the NW sky just after sunset, tonight and for the next 3 or 4 nights (after that, just Venus)

Duc, fab photos. You have such beautiful birds. Would you do me a favor and measure the opening in your oriole feeder. I want to drill bigger holes in a cheap hummer feeder to see if I can any orioles to stop by, but I can't find out how wide they need to be.

Pelle, I think the quality of your photos is excellent!

Aren't these boys getting colorful? and yes, that feeder has seen better days!

Thumbnail by Elphaba
Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Pelle, love all of your photos. Well done and very clear!! It's good to see you are strong enough to use the camera with the tripod.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Elphaba, we posted at the same time, but after I remove the flowers from the feeding ports, they measure just over a quarter of an inch (9/32). The hummers still come and drink from the feeder even without the flower so it's not a problem.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That's exactly what I've been trying to find out.

I'm editing to add that that is one super cool hummer photo!

This thread moves along like lightning!! WOW!!! So many beautiful birds!! Awesome shots everyone!

Hack congrats on your lifers.

I was going to buy a feeder for the finches this year but I see that I can use one of my old ones without the flowers:-)

Hack: Congrats on the Hairy WP visiting your yard ... great shots. I've only seen the Hairy WP once!

Elphaba: Beautiful pic's of the Night Heron, she sure doesn't look happy to have a visitor in that first photo and I agree, that sure is a look of embarrassment in the second shot. Wow, that is a huge flock of the Ibis roosting in those trees.

duc: I love the Western Scrub Jay, it reminds me of the Fla Scrub Jay that may be an ancestor of the western. The Fla Scrub Jay is threatened due to loss of habitat. I've never seen one but there's an area here in central Fla where folks love to go birding because they see quite a few of them.

The Bullock's Orioles are so beautiful and your photo's are outstanding. I've never seen an Oriole of any type and I love the colors.

Pelle: Lovely birds in your area, great photo's! The close up shot of the male Cardinal and the Robin and Red-bellied sure are wonderful!

duc: Wow, look at all those pretty Goldfinches! LOL re: the feeder seeing better days ... I have a few wooden ones hanging on by splinters! ^_^ Cute Hummers, the one on the right looks to be shrieking at the other one!

South Hamilton, MA

Everyone Thanks for the pictures & video.

I was just out in the backyard walking around and had to come in and grab the camera. I haven't seen the Painted Buntings in over a month and first I spotted the female at a feeder by herself, then noticed the male at another feeder ... then they were in the same feeder together! I'm glad they decided to stop by again, they are such pretty little creatures.

Not the best picture but here's the couple having dinner together:
