News (not so) good. Part 2

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Good Morning all! It's a green and glorious day out there and we're off to get another 1000 bricks for Holly's projects. Ric

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Sally those cold air drafts can really make the whole hose feel cold. Those youngens don't care, they will stay out till their lips turn blue.

The sun is out and will get into the low 50ºs, I have a lot of plant tending to do in the basement today. Paul is down there now hooking up the cold water to the sink in my plant room. Yes, I know things progress slowly in my house, didn't have the right fittings to finsih the job.

1,000 bricks is a lot, I'm getting tired just thinking about loading and unloading. Have fun!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We are home with our bricks and most of them have been unloaded and stacked on a pallet in the corral. We were running heavy and weighed down. Didn't quite get 1,000 only 820. You should have seen us I wanted to get a picture of the Explorer but forgot. We put 4 layers in the trailer. The trailer is 4ft X 8ft and then we filled the back of the Explorer from the front seats to the back and side to side 4 layers high. Ric says 272 bricks inside the back of the Explorer. Can you say Summer Projects? LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Good gracious! Jim says he's glad Ric could put those pallets from our gravel delivery to good use. :-)

LadyG, I hope you had a fun day with your new Bluestone plants! Sometimes on days when you can't do much, the best thing to do is putter around with a plant or two... dirt therapy! The only trick is not to get too distracted and get into a bigger project than you have the energy for, LOL.

*hugs*

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

The new Bluestone plants are in the basement plant room they have not been hardened off yet. So don't want to take a chance.
I did do some potting up of my seedlings. The roots are starting to grow out the bottom of some of the 6 packs. To chilly yet for me to be outside for long periods of time, but it is warming up.
I am trying to keep all my projects little, that is why the plant room is so nice, if I get tired I can just walk away.

No brick stacking for me !

Well bed time for me, catch you all tomarrow. ♥♥

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

LadyG,

I'm so thankful that I don't live so close to Bluestone Perennials. As it is, I wait each month for their "specials" and then ask them to ship all my orders at the same time to save on shipping. Each morning I look forward to having my coffee with you guys and it really energizes me!! None of my neighbors do much outdoors except to mow lawns and tidy up a bit, but I have all of you to relate to!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Uh oh... I didn't realize I could place several orders with them at different times (say, over the winter... or during the summer, before fall planting time) and have them ship together... I do love their plants! This could be trouble. LOL

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Roses, My neighborhood is the same way, but why should they garden, all they need to do is walk by my house. I live on the corner so all my flower beds are in full view from the sidewalk.
Did you all catch the BS thread in MA I started with the link to Go Gardening? I have some pictures in GO Gardening of the inside of BS. It is huge, and that is only one room. Then they have hoop houses maybe about 12 with more plants to fill the empty spots in the 2 main buildings. It's a very well run operation.
All the employees are helpful and look quite happy, that in itself says a lot.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

LadyG, we dug the bluebells from somewhere, many years ago. They spread here and there on their own. I'm glad the tests went well, now we pray the results are good too! I adore Bonnie and her mother!!!

Jan, we keep the grandkids a night or two almost every week. Less now, since it takes a day to recover and I don't get much done while they are here. They started out in our bed, but even tho it's a king size, we were still sleeping on the edge. Time to buy an air mattress! Now when we sleep in the tent, we use the mattress and they sleep on quilts and foam pads in nice sleeping bags. They are 5 an 3 now and live a half hour away.

Ric, I cleaned the garages and porches, set out all the chairs and birdbaths and raked off the last couple of things. I wish I had a good place for raspberries.

Chris, it's a shame kids have to grow up like that. It's more the pity they don't even eat the raspberries on their side of the fence.

Sallyg. I'm ROTFL! I was the neighbor who thought she was digging out every last clump of overgrown daffodils. I had a bushelful of bulbs that went across the road on my free pile. Almost every bulb was taken. About 7 bloomed in a clump that were just left on top of the ground all winter.

Chris, you also know your body best. If you feel pretty good, you will do pretty good. Faith. Gotta have it. We lived next door to a rental till it was sold to some nice kids last year. We actually know thier folks. Not well, but well enough from school. We bought our south property from her uncle/ cousin. Not sure which. The last neighbor was a single woman with a daughter and two small boys. A family from heck!! But, we stayed on terms with them and she actually stopped to say goodbye when they moved out.

You guys, that was so funny!!!

1000 bricks, hmmm. I can't wait to see what it is! What's nice is that you're both doing it. Much nicer than by oneself.

Roses R Red, I have to cross over to the next block to find neighbors who like to have big flower beds.

I didn't order anything this year, or even start flower seeds. I had a free pile for my divided plants, but also got a few freebies of my own. My beds are becoming a plop in mess and I need some elegance back. Plus, root grass and wild garlic is sneaking in. Best thing to do is dig up the plant, clean the roots and bulbs out and put it back. The garlic, I have to change out the dirt. The bulbs are so tiny, I never get them all.

It should be another nice day here. Mostly sunny and about 70°. It's cloudy and chilly right now. I got up late, so I'm behind. I need to get laundry going.

(((Big Hugs LadyG))) I hope you still have energy!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

"What's nice is that you're both doing it."

That's the part the rest of us envy, I think! I have, however, recently found a wonderful handyman who will tackle pretty much anything I can think up. He lives far enough out that he only wants to work if it's a full 8 hour day, but wow can he get a lot done in 8 hours... so I'm going to keep a running list of things I'd like help with, and when it looks like a day's worth, I'll see when he can come again! Wish I could send him over to LadyG's garden. :-)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hope your day is going well, LadyG. It is glorious out there, BUT, the mosquitoes are out. AACCKKK!!!!!

We had a great sllepover with the kiddies on Friday night. Their mommy kept waking up in the night though with weird feelings knowing that they weren't in the house. Pop-pop ran them ragged so they fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow. I hear you on the day of recovery. hehehe. So, I went to an Open House at Fairweather Gardens and spent some money.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Penny was restless last night so it took me a while to get to sleep. I did some work on my plants in the basement this morning and took a nap this afternoon. There is always tomarrow to get something done, today I rest.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm glad you're listening to your body and resting when you need to (and sometimes before you may think you "need" to, better yet!).

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Jill, It yells at me sometimes "Chris, sit you butt down now !!" LOL

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Ladyg, On the days that I feel like a lump and don't have the energy to do anything, I do just one small thing and that keeps me from feeling like a complete slacker. LOL

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7b)

Hi, Ladyg! I hope you are feeling better at this time. It has been gorgeous for the past couple of weeks. We hard our frogs the other night.

What did you get from BS recently? I just got another new catalog the other day. I wasn't sure of what to get this time around.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Was down in the basement this morning and my body just yelled at me. felt a bit foggy and lite headed, so I came upstairs got my late morning snack of fruit and sat my butt down. Felling better, but not going to push myself.

I did get picture of my BS plants so time to share.

Anemone Sylvestris, I had this several years ago and lost it. Had to have another (3). I like how the flowers wave in the breeze.

And DH can't get the lawn mower near it in that corner. (you know, if it's a grass it gets mowed.) It mounds and clumps so no underground runners.. SOLD!

Lovely to look at!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

What a great haul!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I could use some Violas, Really pretty Ladyg, they will be beautiful in your gardens. I have a few tirellas and just love them. I was really happy to see that my Golden Hakone Grass is coming back. It was in pretty rough shape last fall as they never did get planted till very late. Rest and take care. Holly

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Have a great day, LadyG

I hear you, Holly, on the Hakone grass. I felt the same way last year wondering if it would appear or not. I really like it, so I got some Hakonechloa 'BeniKaze' this year. It will have redder leaves later in the year.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Beautiful plants! Hope you're feeling normal today. I have that happen once in a while and and don't know why at all~~little dehydration or something~
Yup, in this yard, hubby 'owns' the grass and lawn, I own the garden beds, and basically everything above three inches high is under my care and direction. I love it! Frankly it's a good deal for him, I do all the maintenance I physically can, he runs power tools.

Greetings All - I came in to MAG looking for talk of a plant swap and saw this thread and read bits and pieces of it. LadyG. so nice to hear you so chatty and the pics you shared are great. Nice to see the names that hold a place in my heart and I see that a few new folks are posting also.

Just wanted to say howdy to all and hope to be able to see some of you if a plant swap is planned and we are able to make it. I hope that everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we are having.

Until later.......have a good one all.

Ruby

Hi Ruby, great to see you. Stop being a stranger.

Hi all! My internet was down a good part of the day, Just drove me nuts. Still a bit on the cool side but tomorrow it will be up in the 60º s and Thursday even better. Darn that figures! It waits till I start treatment again to get nice.
I got some more seedlings potted up in the basement so I did get to play in the "dirt" today.
Glad to here the Hakone grass is doing good for Holly and Jan, that is encouraging. I can't wail to see how mine does.

Sally, I have been drinking lots of water, they encourage that when you are on chemo and also when you have contrast material injections for the scans. I was thinking that I may have had a drop in blood sugar, so I ate my snack of a bowl of mixed canned and fresh fruit, I keep a mix in the frig. So easy for a healthy snack, I get the lite or packed in juice. Sometimes I top with yogurt or dried cranberries and chopped nuts.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yup that blood sugar'll git ya too. Sounds like you are ready for anything!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, I got behind!

Critter, a person like that is worth their weight in gold! DH will weed, hoe in the garden and do my hardscaping, but has no desire to pick out plants. I guess I get to do all the fun stuff after all :o)

Jan, when do you get to wake up PopPop? I can't run mine ragged! And Mommy will soon get over those feelings :o)

LadyG, you're right. There is always a tomorrow. Even I am learning that and don't push to get it all done. I almost made it a contest with myself to get a bed done before the day is out. No more.

HollyAnn, I think you've found a solution we can all live with, LOL!! I'm not a slacker!!

LadyG, I'll bet that's what I have. I ordered the rose color anemone and got this instead. I love that violet! I've considered the grass and, oohhh, can't wait for an older picture of the hosta. What a cool name! I love the newer heucheras, but they aren't always hardy here. Beautiful leaf on the tiarella! I'd love to try the daphne, but don't have the room for more shrubs :o(

Sally, smiling over the 3'' comment. I love to mow, so I took it over years ago :o)

Ric, ROTFL&L!! That came out so well!

Howdy Ruby, we haven't met. I'm another Sally :o)

We had the grandkids unexpectedly yesterday, so I blew bubbles, chalked the sidewalk and the walnut tree. The little ones chalked their bellies :o) I got all but the front yard mowed, so that will go fast when the dew dries this morn. My hands are sore from planting garden and just being in a lot of water. Yesterday was a chance for them to heal. It looks to be another gorgeous day. If we get a last freeze, I'm gonna cry real hard!!

(((Big Hugs and a restful day LadyG)))

Water in a birdbath, simple, but makes an interesting picture.

Hoping you can get outside today and play, LadyG The sun is shining brightly and is promising to be a wonderful day.

LOL, BP, on waking up Pop-pop. He can't sit still, so he CAN run them ragged. Not me. I watch. He runs 3-5 miles 3x a week. He has been doing it since JrHigh and is afraid to stop. He is a very fit 60 yr old.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

billySally, that is a very nice birdbath. I love sidewalk chalk and bubbles! Your story reminds me of when my kids painted each other ---with pokewed berries. From what I read recently it may not have been the best idea. Maybe that's why they are a little krazee.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

That is a very nice birdbath, simple but elegant.
Keep up the good work Pop-pop, keep on running.

I like bubbles too! somestimes I just go out on the deck and blow bubbles so relaxing just watching them float away.

I is amazing what we did as kids, its a wonder we survived at all. I remember taking flowers off the Weigela and sucking out the necture at the end. Hey! if the hummering birds liked it it must be good. It did have a sweet taste.

Well I'll be leaving for the Dr. appt soon, will report when I get back, around 4:00.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Hope for good news.
