You guys just AMAZE me with your pictures. I'm learning a lot. Kettle, etc.
Thank you so much. I've got to go outside now and see what birds I can find.

Leslie

Nice start Plantlady! I love those flowers.

This beauitful Yellow-bellied Sapsucker just came by. Didn't stay long enough though darn it. He's probably headed north.

One more. I think it's a clearer pic but the brach is hiding part of him. Oh well, that's the nature of nature.

From the last thread-
Plantlady, I don't get tired of seeing your "same old backyard birds". That cardinal is beautiful and that red-bellied is cute in the new leaves of the tree. Cute story on the pipe too!

Dave that last bb flying from the tree is outstanding.

Elphaba, I think you may be right on that id of the Anhinga. I don't see any orange on the cormorants in my books. Maybe you should ask the experts in the "Bird Identification" thread. Hope you're right! Congrats on the flycatcher too! I love cousin Grackle-lol.

Margaret, I don't think you could do any better than you're already doing with that outstanding Honeyeater-wowsers!

Lily, love your sweet little titmouse. Your wp must have been really hungry if he ate the whole peanut at once. Maybe he was in a hurry.

Plantlady, thank you for the new start. Great photo of your sparrow.

One of my crows was searching for more nesting material.

Elphaba, love your sapsucker. You're so lucky to be able to see this pretty bird.

This one White Pelican seems to fly past us every day.

Our Bullock's Orioles are still refusing to eat at their new orange feeder. I'm convinced they have been here in the past and know that I've made the hummer feeder ports larger just for them.

The California Quail are really multiplying here. We counted 22 in one of the coveys.

Still seeing the White-crowned Sparrows everywhere too.

Leslie: Yes, please share photo's and tell us about the birds in your area.

Elphaba: Great pic's of the Sapsucker. I love the second shot, looks like he's peeking around the branch at you.

I was outside planting some bulbs a few minutes ago and heard a hawk so grabbed my camera. It's funny, usually when predators are around the Jays will really make a racket and all the birds scatter to hide, but there was a Jay going to one of the feeders and a couple of Doves feeding on the ground ... nobody seemed agitated at all and none went into hiding. The hawk didn't get anything from my yard but I saw it do a fast dive in a neighbor's yard down the road. I came in to answer the phone so I don't know if he caught his lunch or not.

Sure wish I had a powerful zoom lens. I have no idea which hawk this is, it could be a Sharp-shinned or Cooper's Hawk.

Love the cuties on the last thread. Can't keep up with you guys right now. The thread are filling up so fast, and I will have to go back, to see the last 3 or 4 threads, that's how far behind I am.
Thanks for the nice start plantladylin.
Elphaba nice Sapsucker, I do wonder, if I'll see the one I've seen last year, in my yard again.
Lalampchop, you'll will love these threads, there is so much to learn and enjoy here. I don't think I had a chance to welcome you here, so nice to have you with us.
Duc, beautiful bullock and Pelican. I bought a new feeder for the Baltimore Oriole, hope he come visit me again this year.

Gee my post earlier today on this thread seems to have disappeared!

Very nice pic Lin! Thanks for starting the new thread. Great job! Lin that is an Osprey!!!

Elphaba, Love the Sapsucker!

Mashpee, MA

I've been so busy and haven't had time to take many pictures!

Plantlady....love your chippie....mine aren't back yet!
Duc...sweet quail shot!
Burn...sure am jealous of your purple finches. They have become scarce around here recently. I used to see them regularly.

Here's what I THINK is a pine warbler....?? He hangs out with the goldfinch flock but is not nearly as skittish.

burn: Nice one of that Purple Finch! I've never seen one so I really like the photo's. I'm in east central Fla and my book on Fla birds lists a range of north and central Fla but I've never seen one. It sure is a pretty little bird.

Marlton, NJ

Duc, Beautiful shots of all your birds! The handsome Crow and Pelican, the beautiful Oriole, Quail and Sparrow!

Burn, Nice shots! Love the Purple Finch!

Lin, Congratulations on the Osprey, they are one of my top favorites.

sacar, Nice shot of the Warbler! He is a beauty. I'll let someone else ID him for you.

(Zone 1)

Gee, something is going wacky ... I've been watching this thread off and on since I started it and Wow, I've missed so many posts! I don't understand how that happens, I always click on Skip To New when I come here yet I've missed many posts!

duc: Is that a Crow? We've had a few of them around lately and they sure are loud! That Bullock's Oriole is just beautiful and I love, love, love that Quail!

burn: Love the Goldfinches! We had a few visit last year but I did not see even one this winter. That Grackle has gorgeous colors! Great pic of that one!

Pelle: LOL, Ospreys are abundant here ... don't ask me why I never thought of an osprey! There's a lake down the road, right in the area it was diving!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Great Blue Heron stopped by to visit. Thank you Lin for the new thread. Duc, the Woodpeckers seem more at ease at the feeder. Burn, it's nice having you back. I'll have to go back and look at others pics. more later.....busy outside 'cause the weather is really nice.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Lin, I haven't been taking pics of the common backyard birds thinking no one would be interested, but your comment on never having seen a purple finch told me different. I admire Burns shots of them.

Yesterday I took my mini laptop outside and played bird songs to see if I could get my yard friends to answer. They did! Then a big hawk came circling overhead so I stopped. :)

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

plantladylin - That last thread went by like a rocket ship. Thanks for starting the new thread. I really like the way your Cipper is framed inside the plants and their flowers - nice.

Hello LaLambchop, I think this is the first time I've come across one of your replies. I've come to realize that a backyard bird that is common to me, may not be common to someone else, so I post any bird that I get a decent pic of.

Elphaba - both pics off your Yellow-bellied Sapsucker look just fine to me. I've never come across one in person.

ducbucln - nice shot of the crow looking for nesting material. AND the White Pelican is super. AND,I really like the look of Bullock's Oriole.

burn_2007 - I wouldn't mind a few Purple finches visiting me. Nice captures of male and female - Least ways, now, if do see one, I ought to be able to recognize them.

sacarvounis - yep, that's a Pine Warbler, Lord I have tons of them and you're right, they're not shy.

Lily_love - nice shot of the Great Blue Heron.

Thanks, Hack. He is a very cheeky little fellow....he will sit on the rail when I put the food out and quietly watch me....sometimes as close as 2'!

Marlton, NJ

Wonderful shot of the Great Blue Heron Lily!

Leslie,LOL.

Lin, I could watch Osprey all day long. :-)

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Hi Hack,
I'm new but surely enjoying this.

My bluebird poles were just delivered! Yippee.

Marlton, NJ

Woohoo... can't wait to see some photos when you get them set up!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Gee a new again already....Thanks plantlady..nice start!

I would so love to see a mature male YB Sapsucker...I just see juvies and females! Nice pics Elphaba.

I am still waiting for a Purple Finch or two too stop in for a snack on their way north. Nice one Burn.

Love seeing your Bullock's duc...so pretty!
I got my new pole setup for the Baltimore Orioles. I am going to put fruit in the platform so hopefully other fruit eaters will stop in too. I will be trying all sorts of stuff on it. No more squirrles raiding the little bowls I put out for the birds!

Leslie when it get it all set up post some pics!

This female Cardinal was sure singing her heart out the other day!

Nanny....awesome red bellied shot!!! I see my pair together quite often but never, ever when I have the camera in my hands!

Marlton, NJ

Nice ones nanny!

I like the Red-bellied pair too!

South Hamilton, MA

Heard phoebes this afternoon, but didn't see any.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Wooohooo, I love, love to hear those Phoebes in the morning; they sometimes perch real high up on top of the trees like this one, so it's hard to see them, Iris.

Mallard ventured into the backyard to check out the fallen Cherry blossoms' spent petals on the ground.

(Zone 1)

Wow! This thread is really moving along quickly! I go away for a couple of hours and come back to some gorgeous bird photo's!

Lily: Nice shot of the Heron, aren't they wonderful birds!

LALambchop: LOL, all of my birds are just the ordinary, year round, every day flyers that visit my feeders. They are very common to me but I still love sharing. And, I love seeing pictures of birds in other parts of the country and world that I've never seen and some I've never heard of. That's why forums like this are such great fun!

That's very interesting about playing the bird songs on your laptop! I never would have thought to play bird vocals to see if I could attract them! We always have hawks around too ... I took the picture below of a Sharp-shinned hawk that got a dove in the backyard a couple of weeks ago. Felt so bad for the dove but it's nature and the hawks have to eat too. Arrrgh, I forgot my computer crashed a couple of days ago and I lost a few thousand pictures, but I think it uploaded a couple to bird files.

Nanny: Looks like you have a lot of the same exact birds that I do. Great shot of the Red-bellied couple! I've seen Downy pairs at the suet feeder together but never the Red-bellied's. Most often I see just a single male. Oh, that last shot of the male Cardinal is really great! He really is a handsome fella!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Leslie, sorry, I forgot to welcome you and tell you we'd love to hear about your birds.

Plantlady, that looked more like an Osprey to me-great job.

Burn, I love your little Purple and Gold finches. That Grackle is sure pretty too.

Sacarvounis, cute little warbler. Love the expression.

Lily, I think this is one of your best photos of the heron. Great job.

Nanny, hope that new pole works out well. Looking forward to the photos of the Baltimore. Wonderful job on the red-bellied (how exciting to see a pair!) and the cardina is just gorgeous.

Lily, I love the phoebes too. I just got a photo of a Black Phoebe a couple hours ago. Cute mallard, I used to give mine cracked corn or birdseed and they arrived at the gate almost the exact time every day. Sure was fun when they brought the children with them later on.

(Zone 1)

A pair of Mourning Doves perched on electrical wires this afternoon. I think it's a courting pair ... the one on the left would scoot over towards the one on the right and it would move farther away, maybe a female playing hard to get?

Another Mourning Dove in the yard by the fence.

Lin, Nice shots. I had a lot of Mourning Doves around today too.
