Such terrible news this morning. It seems the female is perhaps at the end of her life. The young father may not be able to keep the babies going.
Scottish Osprey Nest
This is awful. However, the male is feeding the two chicks right now.
OMG....makes me sick to my stomach.
Aww that is such sad news.
I just popped in to check and DAD is busy feeding the chicks...oh I pray that he can keep them fed for another week until they can feed themselves.
It is just so sad.....
I've been gone all day. That's super news about Dad feeding the chicks. I was afraid being inexperienced, he might just take off.
The female is still struggling this morning, but Daddy is once again feeding the little ones. What a wonderful father on Fathers' Day!
He is feeding them again now...he is doing good.
Seems the female has rallied a bit and actually ate some today. AND fed the chicks. Outlook is still poor, but she is one amazing bird. She is 25 years old. She has has 48 chicks in the past 20 years.
I had tried this morning but wasn't working for me..Thanks for the update GP.
She looks so much better this morning, standing tall in the nest, sheltering her chicks from the sun. She continues to eat. At her age, she is on borrowed time, but how wonderful if she would be able to see her chicks fledge.
Glad to hear she is doing better.
It is such a relief to see momma Osprey functioning. I missed the drop off, but poppa has brought in a fish, and she is feeding her chicks. dramatic (and relieving) change from yesterday.
She's gone off now, after feeding the chicks. Who would have believed the way she looked a day ago, she would be flying again?
Dad just brought a fish in and she is feeding the chicks. She does still look a little rough & wobbley. I do just hope they can get these 2 beautiful chicks raised.
The old girl has done good. A little bitter sweet...kind of like Magaret's ole' Ma.
Oh Nanny you've hit the nail on the head. I've been thinking of darling Ol' Ma throughout this ordeal. Let's hope this tough old bird makes it.
She has been in my mind too since watching all this over the weekend. I think OL' MA is forever in my mind & heart to be honest.
They are certainly one of the most magnificent birds to watch.
Likewise, Nanny.
I've been watching on and off throughout the afternoon. She is alert and bright eyed and standing on one leg. When I first tuned in she wasn't on the nest at all and was relieved to see her back there. The male has just delivered a fish, which she's hoeing into with great gusto. The chicks are walking around on wobbly pins, do lots of stretching, but don't seem hungry at the moment. Who'd have believed this, eh?
When I first saw she had flown I worried that she might fail to make it back safely. It will be nice if she can live to see her chicks mature. She will certainly not be able to make the journey to Africa this winter, if she survives (or can she?). She has surprised everyone so far.
Hard to know. If it was a virus, then recovery could easily be complete, and there's a good two months to get fully fit before migrating. But again, 25 is very old for an Osprey.

No matter what is the out come for Lady, whether she returns next year or not. She will have gone out on a spectacular high note by raising 2 chicks this year. Quite a fitting end I would think.
Currently showing a second view of the nest. I tried to post a link, but it did not work. You can find the cam on the front page under the red squirrel cam pic.

See if that works
Thats really far away.
Little ones are napping....
What a fine looking pair of young Ospreys!
The first Osprey youngster fledged this morning.
Yes, I just saw the second chick took off this morning. The first chick has had at least six flights since yesterday.
Awww...they grown into such handsome birds!!
Both were on the nest when I popped in but one took off while I was watching!
I read this morning on a British wildlife news site I frequent that not only is she still alive and appearing to have just about completely recovered, but the chick that hatched from Egg # 58 is either the 46th or 47th of hers to fledge. Awesome bird!
WOW!!
Could you give the link to that site?

That is this site, nanny. The link is at the top of the page. All I ever see now when I check in here is an empty nest. Not even the female is in sight. But all is well according to the blog. The young ones are getting fed and the female has been catching fish again.
One is napping on the nest now and the other day a osprey was one the nest and then took off....not sure which it was.
It seems Lady has left for her wintering grounds. She will face many dangers on her journey, and some wonder whether she is even strong enough to survive the trip. There is a 50% chance she will return to the nest next season.
My hopes and prayers are with the Lady. She has been a wonderful inspiration. Please keep us posted.
Good News !!! "Lady", Osprey has returned to the Loch of the Lowes.
