What Inspired Your Name?

(Zone 7a)

I think a lot of us need lives. I have a black cat named Isis Drusila Veruca Santiago. Isis from a Star Trek cat-character, Drusila, after a vampire in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Veruca, after the little girl who, "Wanted it NOOOOOW!" from Willie Wonka.

We have another cat, black on top, white underneath, named Cleopatra Orca.

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

One of our cats is named Sir Olliver Starving Le Pauvre; sir because he is a rescued Maine Coon at a ripe age, Olliver because of the cat in the movie Oliver, Starving, because that cat in the movie says "I'm starving", and so my then 4 year old argued with me his name was starving and not Oliver, and finally, Le Pauvre, which means the poor in French, because he never gets enough love for his liking :-))
But his friends call him Ollie ;-)

See, we all need a life, indeed! :-)

We do! I have Tiga Leigh Whitney Ramsey, my 14 year old Maine Coon that showed up at my door at about 3 weeks old in 1996. Tiga because she was striped black like a tiger, but couldn't name her Tigger because she's a girl so I came up with the girly version Tiga, but I pronounced it Teega, I think it's cuter. Leigh, well, I just started calling her Tigaleigh and it stuck. Whitney because Whitney's my maiden name, Ramsey because she adopted my DH Dave.

Well, no cats here, but I do have a bird named Kodak, because he's "pretty as a picture". ;-)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Mrs Colla what a big sweet fuzzy furball!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Do you have a pic of Kodak?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Does naming my cats (boring) Chester and Chip mean I have a life? Oh Please...I do so want to have a life LOL

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Ohh, gee, maybe I could scare up one...

(Zone 7a)

Chester and Chip are NOT boring names! LOL I think they're great cat names.

Marin, CA(Zone 9b)

Do all Maine Coon cats have long, inspired names that drive the vet secretaries nuts :-) ?

Whar a pretty Maine Coon that is!!! And look at that bird, gorgeous! What is he?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

~phew~ thanks

(Zone 7a)

Not all. Ours is named Monty Python.

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

Mine is an anagram of japonica, my name is Jon and I live in Japan.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

thats cool, paj

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Kodak is a yellow-streaked lory. They're very active birds and love to play- hence, it's hard to get a good pic of him (he won't sit still long enough :-)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

The vet knows mine as Tiga Ramsey, I don't use the rest of her name, it's kinda like the middle name that's never used. I'm hungry.

I want to play with Kodak!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Kodak certainly is pretty as a picture, I have a conure, and an amazon. the conure is zeus,he had his name when I got him, the amazon is lemon...he was that odd shade of colors...green trying to turn yellow...reminded me of a lemon...and we could not come up with something else!?! ...so "lemon" stuck

I feel so much better about "my so called life" now! I have three macaws, a triton cockatoo, 7 cats and a very, very spoiled dog!

Lories are so active and animated! Always chattering. I used to have Swainson's toucans. Lots of fruit slung everywhere. Papaya stuck to the walls...........Papaya dries like CEMENT.

Wow! GORGEOUS horse!! And the dog/kitty pic is adorable!

Isn't too suprising that so many have names that relate to our non-human friends.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I might change mine to Verbena bonariensis. It's very tall and gangly but hardy and with its own subtle appeal~~

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

yeah and it pops up where you least expect it!!

and the deer won't touch it!

and the rain can't knock it down (for long)

and it doesn't care if you give it a drink or not

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Hey I'll go with all that Except I kinda like deer~~~

Has to be some oethers out there with name explanations~~~

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I like deer too But finding something that the deer don't view as 'groceries' is always a good thing and the verbena B do that well. Sallyg picked a winner!!

May I chime in? :-) Never thought I could afford a house. Finally, at 47, had/have a great boss who bonused me a down payment--and was relentless in dragging me around affordable neighborhoods, found a close-to-foreclosure at 20% below market value, and voila! It is less than 900 square feet, but just right for me, and my three dogs that I wouldn't have otherwise! Have to restrain myself from looking at the local shelter websites to get more so I don't end up being the "crazy dog lady" on the news with 53 or 67 or some such number of dogs. (Like cats muchly, but allergic.)

And I think my first name was meant to be "Brenda" because repeatedly over the years, out of nowhere and for no discernible reason, someone will call me that. Was supposed to have been a boy and parents didn't even have a girl name picked out. After I was born, they grabbed the first one that came to them. Guess they got reasonably close, eh? LOL

900 feet of happy!

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Wow! You have a GREAT boss! He deserves to be in some magazine article or something! At the very least, we should start a DG campaign to all send him Bosses' Day cards next October :-)!! Regardless, it's a wonderful story, and I love the way your screen name honors it.

Avianut, He is great most of the time. On occasion, he can be an employee's worst nightmare. In fact, I once received a raise that was literally labeled "combat pay." But he is generous to those who are loyal and are working for HIM, not just marking time in a job. Ya just gotta learn not to talk to him until he's sufficiently caffeinated and all will be well. LOL Thanks.

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

Sounds like an attorney. But that's great about the house!

(Debra) Garland, TX

Well, he can argue like one. But he's a tough self-made kinda boss man. Only child of single parent, grew up running the streets of Chicago. Our tech mgr calls him a wiseguy gone straight. He's not too far off. LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Good story!

Waterloo, IA

Thank you for the comment on my horse :) He is beautiful but has a bad attitude with everyone but me and my husband! His big brother is much nicer! This is Olivetto (Ollie), Arnold's big brother.

Ollie is beautiful as well!
When you said earlier that both your horses were from Poland, did you mean literally, or heritage-wise? (I mean, did the horses have to be flown here from Poland?)

Waterloo, IA

Thank you :)
Yes they came over from Poland. We had them flown in a horse shipping container. They actually has passports years before I did! Their old trainer traveled with them from Poland on the plane. (And I was worried about shipping them from MI to IA last year on a truck!)
