I understand and support the DG Acceptable Use Policy (see http://davesgarden.com/aboutus/tos/ for the whole thing). Rule 7a reads "As of Nov 6, 2002, discussion and debate of a political nature, and debate of a religious nature are not allowed on the site." This makes eminently good sense to me, as it helps preserve the friendly and collegial atmosphere among avid gardeners of all political persuasions.
In that spirit, I respectfully question the wisdom of DG accepting partisan political ads urging support for President Obama's health care initiatives. The ads I'm referring to are by "Doctors For America Action", a group that until recently was named "Doctors For Obama" (an arm of the Obama campaign). http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0509/Doctors_for_America_launches.html
Is the management here at DG aware of this? Like the rest of the happy DG community, one of the primary reasons I enjoy my time here so much is that it's a respite from the noise and hubbub of current events, politics, stress, and controversy. I humbly ask Dave and friends to take another look at this and consider canceling the ad.
Cheers!
Political ads on DG
Go to "Contact Us" at the bottom of this page & tell them about it.
Already did.
I humbly ask Dave and friends to
Don't ask me. I don't work here anymore! Just wanted to clarify on that point. Everything you see on the site has nothing to do with me.
Gotcha.
I thought the ads were screened. ???
If you don't like the ads you're seeing, you can always turn them off in your preferences.
Political Ads don't belong....
Turn them in.
(And nag the living snot out of the new owners until they take you seriously...)
*snicker*
I put my 2 cents in!
I'm letting the advertising department know. We do not condone political ads from either camp but apparently something has slipped through.
Can you get back with us when the advertisement department responds to you? Is IB's official stance on the subject that they will not have political advertising? I'm just wanting to make sure.
Per a conference call Melody and I had recently with the ad folks, their official stance is that they don't knowingly allow political ads.
But - and this has happened in the past, too - these ads are sometimes slipped into ad "networks" that are purchased to fill up blank ad space. That's why we need a screenshot to show them where it's displaying, and they can then track it back and block it.
Thank you very much!
I've just heard from IB and they are in the process of getting the URL for this ad blocked.
Thanks for the fast response. I'm glad that IB doesn't want political ads on the site.
:o)
OH Shoot...I thought my opinion was going to be needed!! LOL Jo
LOL- JO!!!!
I agree with whatever Jo didn't say.
I'm also in full agreement with whatever Jo didn't say!
A wolf among the sheep....hehehehe
I dispute all those who agree with what Jo didn't say, and plan to start a PAC just so I can sneak ads onto DG poking fun at Jo! I think I'll call it SheepPAC.
OK PP...You're ON! *gotta go call my congressperson* LOL Jo
You guys are a riot!
First I'll need some grainy, unflattering photos of Jo, and then I'll need to hire a voiceover guy with a deep and creepy voice ...
Something like this ...

This is as bad as allowing political ads. Perhaps not appropriate for DG.
We're kidding each other and ridiculing political ads. Smile, June. :)
Dang, it's gonna be a challenge to make you look threatening. Haven't you got any pics where you're stepping on daisies or showing your fangs?
PuddlePirate,
Jo is in costume in those pics. This is not the REAL JO. When she attends White Elephant exchanges and someone claims her coveted prize... she can become violent. This pics are just a ruse.
Nice socks! yeah...don't touch her chocolate, I hear she goes ballistic over that offense :)
See!
She's always in costume. You never know the REAL JO. Next you'll see her with a paper bag over her head with cut out eyes and mouth.
SHHHHH I work for the CIO...'cause eveyone I see I OWE! Jo
nomosno,
Wow.
Yes, that is Dave who conceived, built and developed Davesgarden.com. He did a beautiful job, didn't he!
Hm ... that is sad. Yes, he did a great job, built the largest site "for the gardeners, by the gardeneers". But, think about Steve Jobs. He made the Macintosh and when it was successful he was forced out of Apple. Later he returned more triumphant than ever.

Nothing sad about it, Dave is an entrepreneur and will grow another enterprise. The sad thing is that my post above was edited by someone. I'm a paying subscriber and my posts are edited by someone? Weird and just not right. I'm done.
