What wildflowers are blooming now in your area?

Karen, Mt.Pleasant, TX

At the base of the morning glory is this plant, reminds me a wandering jew. Anyone know it's proper name? ( I wish we could post more than one photo per entry! would make my life much easier, lol)

Sorry for that last hiccup. It didn't show up first time I posted but probably didn't give it enough time to load.

This photo isn't a flower but lovely nonetheless, beauty berry bush.

I have no idea what this is. Tall plant about 5'. With blooms at the top of stalks. Can someone identify?

Your wandering jew type flower is called an Asiatic dayflower I believe.Commelina erecta. Next NOID might be Boneset or White Snakeroot (different plants). The little daisies I don't know.

Play - for your two white flowers it would make it a lot easier to ID them if you also included shots of the foliage.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

those little daisies might be an aster, is the pic quite current?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Commelina erecta is native, http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=COER

Commelina communis is the non native asiatic dayflower.

http://www.bio.utexas.edu/courses/bio406d/images/pics/com/commelina_erecta.htm I think has a good photo of the third petal that should help narrow it down.

Excellent link RBL!! I will have to bookmark. And yes from the description it looks like what's in my yard. I will have to attempt to take macro shots of the flower to make a clear match. It is the most perfect "blue" I've seen in a flower. Just like the crayon color, lol.

jmorth, the pic was uploaded on same day I took it. blooming now. reminds me of some sort of aster so good call!

Green: good tip, I actually took foliage pics but got tired of uploading so didn't include it. Will try to take better pics that include flower and foliage next time.

thanks everyone!

One of my favorite goldenrods, Solidago caesia. Oddly enough it is the only goldenrod that grows on our property, and our property is about the only place around where it grows in abundance.

Found what I think is a Morning Glory. Maybe? It is a vine and has seed pods and seeds that look like morning glories. Anyone got an idea? Will post picture of flower and leaf.

This is the flower.

Marti - if you post your photos on the Plant and Tree Identification Forum you will have a greater chance of getting an ID.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I did post them on that forum also. They think its a Morning Glory, but not which one. I think its cute and collected a few seeds that I could find. Will keep a watch on the vines for more seeds.

Atriplex, Four-winged Salt Bush. What you see aren't really flowers - they are the "four winged" seed pods that have a little fall color.

Stanleya, Prince's Plume. This usually blooms in late Spring, but it is trying to re-bloom this fall for some reason. The blossoms are bigger and showier in Spring.

pollengarden - Love those plants! I grew up in Denver and sure miss the West and Southwest. It's nice where we live though.

My Aromatic Aster is now blooming. It's the last aster to bloom here. Starts about mid-October and goes on till mid-November when everything else is pretty much done. Here's a pic.

Here's a pic of my American Beautyberry and Aromatic Aster together. I love the color combination.

It is the end of wildflower season here. This is a Rabbitbrush, and a late-blooming one - most of them have already gone to seed. If you have sharp eyes, you can see it attracts bees, butterflies, and moths (more Butterflies than the non-native "Butterfly Bush").

Here is a picture of the same bush two years ago. I usually only see Monarch butterflies in fall, as they migrate south.
The tan-colored bushes in the background across the street are Rabbitbrush that have already bloomed and gone to seed.

ImaMes, I'm so jealous that you have those beautyberries growing! And next to the purple asters... lovely combination. Thanks for sharing that photo!

California Poppies are a welcome visitor here in this area of dry desert waste land each year.
