This doesn't happen on all of the pages, but it does happen on this thread.

Page too wide
Thanks - that's an operator error. There were too many characters (asterisks in this case) in a row, without a space in between. The system tries to not break up words (it sees them as strings of characters), so putting a lot of !!!! or **** in a row can lead to an extra-wide thread. I fixed it by removing a few of the asterisks ;o)
Thanks, Terry! Good to know information, too. I hope I wasn't the culprit. (Please don't tell me.) :-)
Is there a certain number that triggers that?
Chuckle, no you weren't the culprit. There is a character limit, but off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you what it is.
A good rule of thumb is to not put more than a dozen or two characters in a string without any spaces ;o)
In the past, I've noticed that the 'system' is setup to prevent this sort of thing for some characters. For instance, you can only use three consecutive periods (...), any more an they get cropped. Extra spaces also get cropped.
Maybe it would be worth considering putting some kind of upper limit on other characters (when the same character is used consecutively). I mean, how many asterisks does one really need, anyhow? I'm not suggesting a limit of 3, but maybe 10 or 15 or whatever number allows a degree of creative freedom without undue risk to screen size. Just a thought.
Howdy, S! Sounds good to me.
Hi CJ!
We tried several things over the years to prevent this from happening. For a while elipses (...) were limited to three - if you put more than that, it reduced it to one ;o)
But the problem isn't widespread, and if someone reports an extra-wide thread, we can usually find the problem and edit it out without too much hassle.
How about this one Terry.

All fixed.
Thanks
Terry:
The Texas Gardening thread isn't fixed - it's still too wide: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1074884/
Thanks - there was another line ("__________") that was the secondary culprit - not quite as long as the asterisks, but still causing a problem.
You're welcome. I'm just enough OCD that I couldn't leave it alone. LOL!!!
