Daily Walks 4

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't see any activity around the woodpeckers nest today. I wonder what they're up to, hmmm.
We'll give them some privacy. LOL~

Another pretty view if you ignore the trailer and the old bee barn. This time of Mt. San Gorgonio.

Using the telephoto on Mt. San Gorgonio. I was standing in the parking lot for the tree farm when I took these last two photos.

A profusion of wildflowers by the gate most people use to visit the farm.

Well Fiddlenecks! : - )

I tried and I tried and couldn't get a better photo of this tiny white wildflower. It's maybe an 8th of an inch in diameter, and I'm being generous in my estimation. I just call them snow drops because they kind of look like snow when they grow in patches. I don't know their real name, sigh.

Wow!! An acorn. Hard to believe Grandmother Oak started out as one of them.

Creekside, a patch of moss growing out of the bank.

Critter facilitated erosion. See the gopher hole in the shadow? Also where my son dug his drainage ditch after the flood.

That finished up Feb. 16th, now on to the 18th.
My favorite walking buddy, Spirit. He's ready to go again!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

We didn't end up going for a walk that day, except in my gh, and I'm posting those photos on a different forum.
We had this much rain in the rain gauge on the morning of the 19th. For us that's a decent amount of rain. With more coming.
Need another break. Time to do some more chores.

The black and white bird waaay up there is a Phoebe, SW. One of our favorite birds.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I had a Phoebe visit? Oh boy! They have a pretty song. At least I think it came from the Phoebe?
It cracks me up how territorial some of the birds are, especially the hummers. I know where I can almost always find at least two wild males on watch. The house hummers have been checking me out to see what I've been doing. I love their visits. They are really happy with the abundance of "native" food but that doesn't stop them from visiting. : - )
More rain and storm clouds for Feb. 20th. So I just walked out to get this photo of the rain gauge. I always forget before I get back inside how much was in there.

Later on the 20th, the sun came out and so did this flock of Red Winged Blackbirds. Here's about half the flock.

The other half of the flock.

Another view of them. They hung around all afternoon. They were noisy too. I might be wrong about them being Red Wings. Sure are a lot of them. Every black speck out there is a black bird.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Using the telephoto, you can see better what I saw. I don't know what they were eating but they seemed to be gorging on them. Probably worms since we'd just had the rain.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Still had some clouds but sunshine too. I never get tired of looking at Red Hawk Hill.

I guess we left for Monterey and I didn't have time to take my walks for a while. I think I had a full plate of Dr. appts, the week before we left?
This photo of an unknown wildflower was taken along side the road when I made DH stop and let me stretch.
I loved seeing all of the wildflowers blooming along the coast. Some of these following photos were taken while on the trip, when I was walking.
Enjoy seeing a different part of CA in the Spring. My photo info says that this was taken on Feb. 25th. I think the 'puter lies about the date sometimes. LOL!

This is an interesting grouping of plants at the rest stop.

I'm still trying to figure out that bird netting? Didn't keep them off the rock, judging by the evidence left behind. That bird sure has a beady look in his eye too!

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

This would have knocked my socks off if I'd been wearing them. Series of 3 photos. Don't know what it was, but it was a ground nester I think.

This is a better photo, but the first showed the color on the head and beak better? Not sure, but this is 2 of 3.

What a sweet little bird, they were several others in the same vicinity, with foot traffic all around them. They didn't seem to mind. I wonder if she put the rocks there or just took advantage of them being there? 3 of 3.

I liked this shear rock face with all the different kinds of plants growing on it. : - )

Oops I lied, but not intentionally. This was the Gaviota Rest Stop, and these are two more photos of the bird but from a distance. One of two.

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Can you see Mama bird in front of the bush? She is so close to all that foot traffic and people are leaving her alone. Amazing. : - )
Kind of interesting too, to see what kind of habitat/nesting areas they like too.

Another Cliff photo. It looks like slabs of sandstone standing on end. And could very well be.

DH is impatient and made me get in the car and go through this scary tunnel! : - O

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I couldn't resist this one.
The light at the end of the tunnel!

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

Jules Lovin all your photos. Must tell you and Kaper my Phoebe experiences. We have them visit our home. But listen to this, when I've taken my breaks in my car at 2 of the last places I worked the phoebe was there to greet me, not only that but at other special places I've visited also. Such as half sister (long wonderful story there) in Ventura, plus while I was waiting to pick up my grandson from school(don't pick him up very often). Needless to say Pheobes are very special to me and represent a very good omen as they "follow" me.

I kept telling DH to slow down but he wouldn't. I quickly gave up on trying to take photos in a moving vehicle on winding roads. But I did get this recognizable if blurring photo of lupine.

Jules

Make sure the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train coming toward you. LOL (really don't like typing LOL,not sure why, but felt it necessary here.)

Love ya,
Sylvia

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

That is so cool., Sylvia I call the hawk my sister, because we've lived together for so long. She was here first or her ancestors were.
I've always had kestrels follow me around. Some people don't like them but I sure do. Lately, of course I got hummers watching my every move. : - )
I can't wait to hear the long version of the Phoebe story, maybe at the RU?

These next three photos were also taken in the car, because DH refused to pull over and I really wanted to get some rolling hills that we CA's talk about, and folks back east might not see. These are the coastal hills.

No, that reminds me of a joke, but I don't remember the punchline. Drat!

I like this side view too. Especially that conifer tree.

I have many stories of my special encounters with random birds. Love my birdies.
Alas I have no picts to post, not gotten there yet, but do love yours, they inspire me.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Do you have a digital camera, dillansnana? I know someone who might have an older model to sell at a really reasonable price. I'll see if he still has it if you are interested. Just give me a call 'cause he's having a yard sale tomorrow and if he still has it, it'll go fast.
