We have a black squirrl
Garden Projects Two - 2010
That is really cool!
1st time I saw a black squirrel was in DC
I have never seen them except Michigan and Wisconsin
I would love to see it. The one I posted was all silk fabric. As I under stand each girl got 1 new dress per year.
I've seen black squirrels in NY.
Yes, I would get it, Bill.
that's nice joann - sherri we are not fans of her brother or his wife, it hers whenever she wants to get it. besides he bred his golden and it had four pups - those need to be gone or one might be digging holes here!
again not mine to get - i've mentioned it several times to her.
Best to let it alone. When its important to her she will do something about it.
What's the bil's address???
heh heh
You would sell a priceless family heirloom--on ebay, yet?? How about taking it to Antiques Roadshow?
If it got authenticated it would be a Museum Piece. Might even get an invite to the castle with the queen.
Good grief - I did not know this could happen.

If authenticated, it would fetch lots of money - nice retirement cushion, Bill. Try subliminal messaging.
Oh yeah, If you're pumping your own gas, don't get in and out of the car. We don't pump our own here and even I knew that.
Funny, was in NY at a meeting and a friend was driving, she didn't know how to pump her own, I had to do it for her. Same with my sil we were coming back from Lancaster and she didn't know how either. For her b-day I found a wooden sign that said "Jersey girls don't pump their own gas"
That's freaky. Interesting that it's mostly women involved.
Not this woman
just in and half the back yard is cleaned up - wrap worked better this afternoon, even trimmed everything in the beds i got too - hope to have it done tomorrow and then begin edging - will have to make a HD run for fertilizer and grub-x before the rain at the end of the week.
Isn't it too early for that?
for what lawn fertilizer? no, good to go when the snow is gone - i only put down this one application with crab grass killer in it - i'll wait a while for the grub-x.
I meant both. Grass should be growing for the fertilizer, no?? Good time for pre-emergent weed killer.
Victor i was in DC years ago for the CB... you won't be sorry.. it's nice when they start letting go and it looks like it's snowing pink pedals ... I felt like a little kid standing under all that
This will be the beginning. Last time I was there was at the end of April, and it was the very end of the cherries.
The other cool thing - the day we get there they are having a kite festival on the mall!
That should be cool!!!
Sounds like a perfect vacation, Victor! I like Patti's suggestions too. The Museums can be overwhelming for kids without some narrowing direction like that. In 1980 when we were moving to New England, we spent a week in Washington in April. It was fantastic timing with the CBs etc. My son was 10, a great age for all that we did.
Your weather up there is not very different from ours here today. I was talking with a friend in Conn., and our temps were exactly the same. Wierd! Tomorrow starts the warm-up here - 80 degrees!
Enjoy Spring, you guys!
Louise, would you know...what is the planned temp for Orlando, Easter week???
Oh, your trip to DC sounds like it will be lots of fun, Victor. I don't think I could do as much as you guys will be doing. I'd pick maybe a few places and then concentrate on taking photos of the cherry trees and blossoms with all the famous DC landmarks in the bg. I would love to go during that time someday.
JoAnn, I love the crazy quilt. That would be fun to make one of those.
Yes, they have warnings at the gas pumps about the static discharges. Sounds like it's pretty rare, though.
I remember going through Oregon the first time and stopping for gas. They are all full serve there, no self serve.
Karen
Saw a young woman at the pumps the other day (while still numbing), cell phone to one ear, engine running, sliding back into the car to escape the cold (wearing nylons and skirt). I wanted to go offer her a cigarette but didn't want to get that close. That's why they ground both the aircraft and the delivery trucks at airports, any breech of this protocol is taken very seriously. Ric
Oh going to DC when the CB are blooming, you will love it.
I grew up in that area of the country and there is nothing as pretty as that. Make sure to have your picture with the water and blossoms behind you in the picture, that will be a picture you will treasure for a life time.
take the tour buses they are well worth it and make sure to wear very comfortable shoes, who cares what they look like.
You will also love the subway, best thing that ever happened to that area. 30 years ago when it first started out I live in md and worked downtown DC and took it in, it was amazing to not to have to worry about traffic, especially since I was pregnant, get on, rest and get off and no gas worries, no parking worries, no traffic worries. love love love the subway.
enjoy and say hello to DC for me.
Janet
Wha, or anyone, tell me about using grub-x. We have them and I have tried to get DH interested in using the stuff. He has once, but I think he put it down at the wrong time. The dogs this fall dug some big trenches in the front yard, which means, something is living on something which ain't good. Patti
i have had grub problems on and off mostly on the top portion of the yard where the front door is. i think there are three brands out there grub-x another from bayer, and possibly a third. Anyway i switch brands every year to keep the grubs from building resistance (i heard to do that somewhere).
There are directions on the packaging - some say you can throw it down anytime - i usually wait until April when they wake up and start to feed.
My main complaint is how expensive it is - i have skipped years and lived to regret it - so now i always throw down the cc and get the stuff.
So much news here....JoAnn, loved the story with the quilt, & good luck to you, Bill, if DW gets it....wonderful trip, Victor....wish I could stowaway! DH has been to DC many times...he was stationed at Quantico...so he's never had any interest to go back. Guess I'll think about liming the lawn next week...we still have a little snow left.
Thanks, Janet! We will take the subway. We have been there before, though not with the kids. Love the subway. Stations are dark though.
We are taking a night bus tour of the monuments/memorials.
Are you going to see the changing of the guard? That is very heart warming. I love it there, to walk around where all of those service members gave there life so I could have freedom, I'm so grateful to them all.
Another neat place is to take the subway to Georgetown, you get off in Roslyn and they have the highest escalator around.....the kids might get a kick out of that, then you walk across the bridge over into Georgetown and right across the street is the stairwell that was used the the first movie of Exorcist. Then especially if you go in the evening it is all the rage to get ice cream cones and just walk and window shop in Georgetown.
I love Georgetown.
Janet
Yes, Sherrie.
Nor sure about the changing. I would like to have my kids see that. It is very moving. Yes, Georgetown is on the (very long!) list.
That's a good strategy Bill! The other thing you can do is intro bacillus thuregencis. It does take a year or so to reach its peak but is harmless to everything but grubs. I'm sure you already know killing grubs reduces those nasty underground mammals that seek them as well as the beetle population. Ric
What about milky spore or better yet, beneficial nematodes?
We did the night bus tour of the DC monuments last year. DH was in conferences all day so could only do night time stuff. I went out by myself during the day and walked from one monument to the next. The museums were great too. Wish we could have spent more time there. Enjoy!
