Coffee Break #34 - Watching the snow melt.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Some nice cars there Victor! Both my boys were bent on a specific design. Josh wanted "Big Foot", and Jamie wanted a 30"s style Indy open wheel racer, complete with driver and decals. Both chose well, both got best of show for design, neither ran well, so...
We've also done the rain gutter regatta, space derby, and some kind of walking board you operate with 2 strings and decorate to a theme. They have included (Josh's last name is Lucas by the way): The Lucas Sky-walker X wing fighter, required 2 kits so we had 4 wings, and a fighter model for the canopy and ladder. Jamie's pirates black ship (sail design compliments of a hazmat label), rigging was straight pins and black thread all held in place with fingernail polish. We had a blast building them, but isn't that the point! The only thing wackier was some of the cakes we built. Now I get to enjoy it watching Jamie go through the same thing with JR. Ric
Building a pick-up truck from a chunk of pine was one of the best! LOL

Speaking of wood - I know its March, we have burnt 6 cords of wood so far.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow .. we don't use ours 24 - 7.. but I think we went through 3

Its a lot of work.
Haul it
Cut it to size
Spilt it
Stack it
Haul it again
Clean up the stinking mess it makes.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah our worst part is when we come home with it.. Randy brings it back in the yard with a wheel barrow... takes forever

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - that screaming will get your attention, Allison!

South Hamilton, MA

Our wood has been cut on the property so don't know about cords. Past weekend we went through close to 2/3 of the rack. A few other logs turned to punk so are hauled out to the woodsy area to go on with their deteriorating.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Mayilyn, I'm sorry to hear your wrist is still bothering you.

I'm headed off to my second botanical illustration class now. Today's topic is leaves in perspective (I think), anyway, she wanted me to bring in a rhododendron leaf.

See you later!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

have a good time Harper!!

Thomaston, CT

Thanks, Harper---the MRI showed tendonitis, & something floating---maybe a bone chip---doctor wants me to have it out, I'm not too sure at this point. Maybe in the fall, after gardening season!

South Hamilton, MA

Doctor's don't understand about gardening seasons. Perhaps because they don't have time to garden themselves.

They probably hire someone to do their gardens and sit back.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same here. I don't think the cortisone will do the trick for my knee and I will probably require surgery. But now that will have to wait until fall.

I have something ripped in my shoulder. Rotator cuff, pulled something? It should of gone away as its been over 2 months. Victor I know how you feel. In other words IT HURTS

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - it sounds like a tear, Sherrie.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Congrats Jan, you know me that would be an excuse to go shopping!
Too bad Allison, more $ for plants.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Jen. I did do some looking on line and nothing really jumps out at me.

Nephew's family is coming down today to see my mom and is bringing some bamboo poles for me. (I hope he remembers)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

now we lost ABC .. not that I care about the grammy's but a lot of people do... I am getting tired of cablevision.. first food network was taken off for a few weeks... and now ABC .. tired of seeing all the ads bashing each other... way too many BOO HOO ads.. saying it's there fault... from both side... every time I turned on the tv this week it defaulted to a crying ad how how ABC was unreasonable .. blah blah blah.. might have to change to verizon

South Hamilton, MA

Tough to lose a major network. Bet that you are not the only one annoyed.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Michele was screaming mad yesterday... she loves all those award shows.. but they have them free on the internet if it comes down to it

Comcast is getting rid of some channels also (not major networks) and the price has gone up. I am sick of them but I am kinda stuck. I got the bundle - tv, internet & phone. So if I drop one or two of them for a cheaper one then they will jack up the service I keep. I can do a local service for the phone and internet for 19.99 a month but then if I have the internet on the phone is out. There is not a easy answer here.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think verizon has a triple package as well

Its not in our area!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

bummer

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not following it too closely, but it seems that it's ABC being greedy.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I wrote them an email saying just that... told them I was tired of the boo hoo ads they are forcing us to see every time we turn on the tv

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They are losing money in droves and will try to get some any way they can. Their news division is closing all offices except in DC.

****update****update****

too cute!!

Funny, Sherrie.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Congrats, Victor (& son) and Jan! Great news for you both. Jan - wear that dress! I like Bill's approach.....do it for luck! I don't think a single soul would wag a finger at you! LOL If you love it, wear it to death!

Ric - nice shot of the kids! Love that little trophy and the kid is very cute!

Robin - pretty blue dress! Hope your wrist gets better soon.

Sherrie - cute puppy pics! Hope your shoulder recovers. Mine bothered me all last summer and it has slowly gotten better over time. It only hurt in certain positions, but it would grab me when I hit the right position. Still a bit tender, but way much better.....until I get to NH and over-do it again. With these puppies, my gardening may be limited up there still. They take a lot of keeping up with for now.

Harper - please show us your rhodie leaf drawing......

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Now a visa gift card 100 bucks for $5.33 - this sounds too good to be true.

That seems to good to be true...it looks like you have to pay .75 for each bid you make. That can add up real quick if you don't win. http://www.bidcactus.com/about.php Am I reading that right?

Yes you can buy 25 bids for 18.75 But then you can go bid on bids and win alot cheap.

I aint going to bother with it..... Too risky.

Thomaston, CT

Cute puppy photos, Sherrie. I, too, am stuck with Comcast...it took 4 calls & 8 days to get a tech out here to fix my phones! On a happier note, had my first yard robin today, & saw a killdeer yesterday.
