Coffee Break #34 - Watching the snow melt.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

That nurse in Ct. that was shot by a patient yesterday....he was a former Marine, shot 3 times after stepping between another nurse and the patient, and the patient is an 86 year old man! Authorities are still waiting to talk with the patient--both are in that same hospital.

South Hamilton, MA

If an area in front of the house, was messy it would be one thing, but regulations about how much to plant? big brother, here we come.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's a shame.. if Randy would let me do it.. I would too

Thomaston, CT

Can't believe that elderly man was able to take a gun into a hospital----where do you hide it in a hospital gown?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Well, looks like they broke it :-O Wonder how this post will read--lol

check out the times listed on the posts - all messed up

Back from the Principal's List breakfast. Kind of ridiculous - between that and the honors list, just about every kid is included! Something is way too easy.

My little guy won second place in the Pinewood Derby finals!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i do not agree with the "everyone is a winner" mentality at any age. school or sports - most kids know what is what

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too. It only hurts them in the long run.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the real problem is the kids who think they believe they "earned" the recognition - those are the ones that get a dose of reality later in life - there are other ways to encourage kids

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - 'entitlement' is big in this country these days.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Working yet??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Okay - it seems to be back.

My little guy took second place in the Pinewood Derby finals tonight!!

Cool!

I'll post a pic tomorrow. It was fun. One wheel was wobbly - I think that was the difference, but we can't complain. First last year and 2nd this year. That's out of almost 100. The hilarious thing is that I have NO carpentry skills at all! I cut them with a hacksaw.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice job both of you!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks!

Congratulations Victor and mini Victor!

South Hamilton, MA

It's great to get families together no matter who wins.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

aren't the kids "supposed" to build the cars?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They help with the rest. I do the cutting.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

just kidding - it is also meant as something the dads and kids do together.

although growing up the guy across the street built one that could have gone on a mantle - son was not allowed to help at all in the construction. they did not win thankfully

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Many dads go crazy. They're like the crazed sports dads. Some cars look like they were created with CAD/CAM.

South Hamilton, MA

When GS was that age, his cars did not win races so he concentrated on design. Got awards for that with some cutting help from Dad. Kids' hands are just not strong enough. Touch when adults take over.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Congrats to Little Victor! I think the kids appreciate it more if they do as much as they can. So glad to see the 'kids' win and not the 'dads'. Same thing with school projects.

Just got news last night that our youngest son (29) is getting married. This is the one that moved to Houston area. Not much time though to get ready. Either Memorial Day weekend or the weekend afterwards. Am hoping they come north for it, but most likely either Baton Rouge or The Woodlands, TX.

Congratulations, Jan & Little Victor----Start shopping for the dress, Jan! Pixie had posted some nice ones! Feeling better today---had to go for an MRI on my wrist yesterday---pounding gave me a migraine, still a little shaky today.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Our son, Jamie, and GS, JR, just had their Pinewood a couple of weeks ago. Their entry was a collaboration, Jamie cut it out, JR sanded it, and Momma helped him paint and decorate it. It looked pretty good, and JR was thrilled to win the Turtle Trophy. LOL We also just attended their Blue and Gold Banquet this past Saturday. Ric

I thought of Pixie as soon as I heard the news. Is it tacky to wear the same dress to 3 of your sons' weddings? I think not! It probably is, but, unless I find something that just screams at me 'Take me home and I'm on sale' and it fits perfectly, then the standby will be just fine. I'd rather have money for gardening and their gift.

Feel better RD.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Great pic, Ric! ^_^ That guy in the back doesn't look too happy though.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Congrats, Jan!

Feel better, Robin. I am suffering through a cold this week. Got hardly any sleep last night.

Cool, Ric!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We're visiting DC in a few weeks so it's a bit unnerving to see this nut come out of the subway and start shooting at the Pentagon guards. Another looney who thought 9/11 was an inside job.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, no! It's a hard fact---you're not really safe anywhere, you just have to live your life as normally as possible. Nice photo of the scouts, Ric & Holly. Jan, I have a size 12 royal blue dress from Nordstrom's I wore to my son's wedding. It's yours if you want it. A little wrinkly in the photo!

I have worn the same dress to 2 of my children's weddings. I just love the dress, it was a bit pricier than I wanted but I hadn't found anything else that I liked. The dress from my daughters wedding 12 years before was just way too out of style to wear for my son's wedding so I had to buy a new one. I would probably wear it again if Josh ever gives me a chance to. LOL Holly

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

congrats Jan - if the other two marriages are good where the dress and if anyone says anything it is for good luck:)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the offer, RD. It is very prettiful ( a la Dnut), but, I saw size 12, I think when I was 12. At 6' and not model thin, it wouldn't work.

Thanks for the affirmation about wearing it more than once. Good line, Wha. 'It's for luck'. It was worn in MA and KY and now ?. Waiting to hear which state it will be.
Holly, I love mine, too. Was going to take it on a cruise also. May still do that.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh sorry to disappoint you Jen.. but Randy and I decided to say no to the wedding... I kept adding up how much it was going to cost us to go... dress & shoes for me... suit for him.. wedding gift... UUUHHHHH not happening this year

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I tried saying no to mine, but the Mrs. forced me.

The lineup from the Derby.

Here's my son winning one of the heats. His car was 'Iron Car' - Iron Man colors and some stickers.
