The holiday season is just around the corner. Anyone have any nifty decorating ideas they'd like to share?

Yes! My favorite Christmas decoration out of all I have is my lighted peace sign. I made it out of pvc pipe and white Christmas lights. It's about 7' tall and just gorgeous from a ways away ~ you can see it for a mile!

For directions on how to make it, go here: http://www.moment.net/~wingnut/images/peacesigndirections.gif It only costs about $40 or $50 to make (at the MOST) and what a traffic stopper!

BTW, I took it out and hung it out front September 12th. It's been lit every night since.

wingnut....I just printed this pattern out. My DH can make anything, and I'll just bet he has enough supplies lying around for this project. Thanks...Jo

Oh, Jo! That makes me feel so good that you want to make one! If I can do it, then certainly your hubby can. It's SO pretty from a ways away. Especially when everything else out here is dark and it's all you can see. Give me a holler if y'all run into any problems. :-)

Wingnut, we have a very high flag pole that I plan to "run it up the flag pole". Have to figure out a way to secure it at the bottom to prevent too much sway...but DH can do that easily. We live down a dirt road that only 2 people live past us. The only ones who see our flag, or decorations are the garbage truck, UPS truck, and the Border Patrol making their rounds....but from up past our hill you can see our flag flying from a very long distance. This will show up at night very nicely. My son-in-law next door, takes his very long teepee poles and makes them into a lighted Christmas tree....so this will compliment his display.

Sounds like it'll be really beautiful this Christmas! To keep it from swaying, tie ropes to it, one on each side right about where the slanted lines meet the outside circle, then pull those tight and anchor them after you run it up the flagpole. That should do it.

You will be amazed at how clear it looks from far away. And beautiful ~ makes me want to sing "Silent Night" every time I see mine during a new moon.

Wingnut... how cool. Thanks. I usually don't decorate much for Christmas anymore... no kids around now. However, this year, wishing for Peace and demonstrating it with such a lighted sign might be just the thing.

Mine really isn't a decorating idea as much as it is a get into the spirit idea. On the Friday after US Thanksgiving is my annual Christmas party. We stay up all night on Thanksgiving and semi-decorate the house. On friday morning I start cooking the staples of the buffet (only rule is no turkey, no leftovers from the day before). The guests are required to bring their favorite beverage and one other dish. The buffet opens at 5 pm.

This allows the group of friends to get together and enjoy one another before all of the other parties start and puts us in the Christmas mood.

These are all great ideas and Brad you must really be a High Energy person, lol, whew'

We are planning our decorations and have decided to do our lighting for our city building in red, white and blue this year for Christmas'

Not really - Mom does the Thanksgiving turkey at her house so I take Wednesday as vacation and get a head start. It is so much fun! I'm going to have to invest in a digital camera and post picture of the party.

Moms are GREAT' We'll be waiting for your pics'''

Brad, I like your idea of having a party right after Thanksgiving. Might try it sometime...As for decorating , I always put my Christmas stuff out the day after Thanksgiving. I have three windows in my living room and since 9/11, I put up a red candle in one and a blue and white one in the other two. Have had many compliments from neighbors taking their evening walk... Oh. today is my second day on here, so really don't know my way around...if pictures are posted, where do I look for them? Gin.
