Daily piccies #283

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Here we are on #283, again just 3 days after the last started! We've come from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1073327/

It's a dark rainy day here today, too dark for photos, so I'll have to dig out an older pic . . . try to find one I've not posted before ;-)

Here's a Bar-tailed Godwit down on the coast

Great start Resin! Love that long bill.

The Mockingbirds have about cleaned out all the berries on my Heavenly Bamboo.

Resin thanks for new thread. Your Godwit is a very handsome bird, and you got the photo just right so his bill shows very nicely.

dudbucin, your little titmouse is a pretty little bird

gardenpom nice photo of the jay.

Very cloudy and rainy here today.

Nice start to the thread Resin. Thanks!

Duc, Great shots of the Mockingbird and Titmouse!

Nice Collared Doves GP!

GP, LOVED that Grackle shot-one of your best I think. Don't you love to see the waxwings? They're such a pretty bird. Great one of the jay and the squirrel looks satisfied with its own feeder there. Pretty doves.

Hi, all~
pelletroy invited me to start the next thread so I am watching this one. I have a little time to get a picture--my last three years of pics are on a computer having a minor meltdown.
Today the Carolina chickadee came to my safflower , the first time I've noticed this season; and a HUGE flock of robins is hanging around our yard just as the latest 20 inch snowfall is starting. (or will it be 12?) I am stocked with safflower, thistle and pure suet.

The upcoming snowstorm here on the east coast will most likely raise havoc. For many birds, we can come to their rescue. For others, they have to persevere and hope for the best. To gain an appreciation for their hardships, I encourage you to watch the following eagle webcams (if they remain operable). The wind is already starting to impact the nest in Norfolk and the snow is starting to build (again) on the nest at Blackwater NWR. Both nests have two eggs.
I just hope that they survive this ordeal (90 feet up in the air). What will an eagle nest look like with 2 feet of snow ?

The storm heading your way is here today
There are over a dozen cardinals in this rather snowy shot.
My entire hillside dotted in red, just waiting there turn at the feeders
I counted 30+ when I took this

That's a lot of Cardinals!

Maybe they're gathering to elect a pope?

Thanks for the new thread Resin...between your photo and Duc and GP's it is nice to see blue skies. Beautiful shots!!

Gardengus...your area looks exactly like ours right now...love those Cardinals in the snow.

Linth...Good grief those poor Eagles..the one at Blackwater is completely covered up. Do they shake off that snow?

I just put out some meal worms and had 5 Bluebirds show up to eat...a real bright spot on a snowy day.

You all stay safe and warm and think spring!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. What a shame those Eagles lay their eggs so early before all danger of snow is over. Hope they make it OK. It seems my neighbor is leaving what's left of that Oak tree as is, so the Woodpeckers will still have a home.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

That is great news GP!

I just noticed that the Blackwater Eagle has shaken off the snow..I guess that will be something she will be doing all night.

I posted these on the older thread.......here's one of the bluebirds staking out the suet basket:

Resin, you never miss a cardinal joke!

Hope you all survive the snow.

PERTH, Australia

I went to the osprey nest yesterday afternoon and could hear the Splendid Fairy-wrens very close by. There was at least a dozen of them but they keep themselves deep within the shrubbery and all you get is a twittering of movement. I managed two rear-end shots. Here's the first.

Second one.

A Kookaburra. There were about eight of these birds flying back and forwards. Along with their typical "laughing" call, they were screeching maniacally, sounding as they were being strangled.

Fantastic set of pictures--as usual. That second bluebird needs a thought bubble, like "I thought we were having mealworms today"
