Montserrat's Volcano still active

Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico(Zone 11)

How wonderful that you are home and the volcano has quieted. I hope that dome collapse was the ticket and it will slumber now for many years. The ash and loss of plants are heartbreaking but things grow so quickly in the tropics, if you get a full rainy season without eruptions it will look like it did before. I'm always amazed how quickly everything comes back from sticks after a hurricane. I hope you continue to show us pics of the regrowth, it will be nice to see your island without ash.

Hugs to you,

Isles Bay, Montserrat(Zone 11)

Jenn..Inside the house was a mess, usually I put plastic in-between the screen and the window but I did not have time. Ash was all over everything. I have decided I am getting rid of my light beige couch (it is gray now LOL).
Everything was a mess but my daughter and her friends worked really hard and did a fantastic job. We have everything cleaned up and almost back to normal.

Isaac.. Yes, it is great to be back home. I will start over on my gardens and I know what not to plant in case of another volcano episode. I love gardening so I will enjoy doing it again. I can use and kinds of seeds right now, I just do not have any seeds to offer in a trade ( at least not right now). I would love some giant Sterlitzia! Thank You, you are such a sweetheart!!!

extranjera... Yes, when it rains everything will come back quickly. I watered all the plants (even the dead ones) real good as soon as we got back. Some are already coming back but the dead ones are not..they just got soggy. I guess dead is dead. But thank goodness it was only the potted plants that suffered a tragic end. My plants that were in the ground most seem to be doing ok, some are dead and some look like they can go either way, time will only tell if they make it or not. I will post so every one can see my island come back to life.
I will take some pictures tomorrow and let everyone see the difference a week has made.

Take Care & God Bless

All in all, these last few days have brought us good news amid chaos. Tina returned to her home safe and sound and our friends in the Pacific islands did not suffer from the forecasted tsunami. As the hymn says: Over my head, I hear singing in the air. There must be a God somewhere.

Isaac, how are you doing? It seems you've been away for a while there. Are those echinacea supplements helping you at all? Please let me know.

Take care, all.
Sylvain.

Glad you are home again Tina!!

It's all cyclic, everything goes round. There are periods of good and there are periods of bad. I guess without the bad we wouldn't really appreciate the good. Glad you've come out of the bad in good spirits.

Tina, don't bother about trading, i would gladly send you some sterlitzia seeds!! i am going to South Africa this month, i have a dr. appointment to test my iron, and i will mail it then. Just dmail me your addy please, and i'll get the package ready!
Hi Sylvain, i have been exploring the "other site," its very interesting! have you been on it? but i am continuing on DG, so don't worry, i am still here!
The Echinecea supplements you sent me are helping me so much, thank you again!!!
i just stopped taking them at the moment, because i am having a lot of trouble with high iron. and i first need to find out if echinecea is high in iron or not...
this week i haven't been feeling the best, but i think its my iron, i might have eaten too many eggs, but anyway.
if echinecea doesn't contain too much iron, i will definitely continue to drink the pills, because they certainly are helping me to be healthier. i had malaria once since i started drinking the supplement, and i recovered much quicker.

Isaac, please let me know when your supplies are running low. I have never heard of echinacea supplements affecting iron levels, but then I'm not a doctor and medicine is not an exact science.

take care.

Hi All

Isaac..You have D-Mail!

I have not really had time to check out the "other site" but I am going to once things calm down here. LOL, it took me so long to learn how to navigate DG and I am still learning, hope the other does not take as long.

Tropicalbreeze..You are sooo right, these evacuations always make me appreciate my own home more. Since October we have had ashy, hazy skies, I am now appreciating the beautiful blue skies we are having since the collapse. Now if it would just rain so I could appreciate the rain more (I promise not to make comments like "is this rain ever going to quite")

Thanks Pepper

I like the fact that the bad always seems to bring out the good. I know, when ever this volcano acts up, the good in people seems to come out . People open their homes to those evacuated, When the ash is really bad, everyone stops to give people rides so they do not have to walk in the ash, especially the children. Everyone works together to get things cleaned up. It is sad, in a way that the only time you see community spirit these days is during or after natural disasters.

Any way here are some of the pictures of after the clean up.

Take care

this area had about 2 to 3 inches of ash. I am thankful because it could have been 2 to 3 feet had the winds not been blowing away from my house.

Glad you have gotten a lot cleaned up! Yes, natural disasters usually do bring out the good in communities. In a community such as ours which is very small, nobody is will to help each other. we try to be impartial, buts hard in a small town like this!
