What great pictures!!
A gathering of Eagle's at Old Woman's Creek
Thank you...It was well worth freezing my butt off. lol
Those are great Burd. What a nice place you have for birding!!!
Very nice shots Burd!
More nice shots, Burd. I assume that the time on your camera is not correct because it said 23:55 on #1153. I know you stated in the opening comment that the sun is shining directly toward you. But, have you gone there in late afternoon ?
man am I glad I took the time to go through that!!! Awesome, it's really cool to see your progress and equipment upgrade effect the quality of photos!! WOW
Love watching "recess".
Fantastic action you're seeing there Burd. Could yourself and some other photographers approach the local authority with a proposal to construct a new platform? Maybe put it to them that it would be a tourist attraction and likely to bring money into the local economy. Just a thought.

That's a good idea, just don't know if they would go for it...its a state run preserve. I will bring it up to them on the next visit.
Edited to say...Ive seen one other photographer (ever) at this place...lol

Yeh, but the authorities probably don't know that few photographers go there and if they were to comment that they never see photographers out there, you can tell them they all wear camo gear. LOL
Don't think I haven't thought about being sneaky...lol They have a building with 5 employee's and can see the platform from there. Other than the platform there is one small spot about 50ft away...and they see that too...lol Uhum! Sir would you come with us...hey what the...tackled...lol.
Burd, I would sit on a barb wire fence to see what your seeing. Great pictures, i'v never seen a eagle in the wild. I live at the foot of a mountain where bird clubs seen eagles. My neighbor is blind in one eye, and cant see out of the other... he says he see's them. I have a pair of astronomy binoculars 25x100, and a pair of 10x50 i scan the hole side of the MT its all vertical cliff's, i can look a sparrow in the eye at 1000 yards... but i dont see any eagles. Any particular time of day or year to see them?
jzoo85, In order to find Bald Eagle's you have to think of what they would need in your area to call it home...a lake or river where they can catch enough fish to raise chicks year after year and many tall trees. Bald Eagle's also eat rabbits, ducks, and will even eat roadkill or dead animals if their hungry. Here on Lake Erie they have lots to eat, so we have a lot of Eagle's and the number's are rising...I remember in the 70's the lake was green and you could hardly catch a fish. Since the accidental introduction of the Zebra Mussel (which has cleaned the lake) things have really turned around...but back then a sighting of a Bald Eagle was very rare.
Your best bet is to do some traveling " Go to Cape May" you will see Bald Eagle's I,m sure and many other kinds of bird species. As far as feeding times I think early in the morning and then early afternoon and then again towards dusk. At noon time here... the birds get frisky and will mess with each other before heading out to the lake to go fishing which is only about a 10th of a mile away.
I enjoyed your photos of Old womans creek. Its great to see Bald Eagles thrive all over the Country.
Bald Eagles are definitely amazing to watch as well as photograph. I did well last year in my region of the country and hopefully I'll do better this year. Here's a pic from the Conowingo Dam , MD
Nice shot ejw49eagle! Yes Conowingo Dam is a great place for Eagle's! I will visit it someday for sure.
Just beautiful!! We usually have a pair here at the lake but I haven't heard anything so far this winter of anyone seeing them.
Hey Burd here are some photos of a famous nest in Virginia near the Belle Haven Marina right near the road next to a golf course. I finally got some great photos of the nesting pair and shot of one of them checking out the nest area. Good luck in your area and come down here and visit this area some time.
ejw, wished my camera can take good pics. as yours. We've a Nesting site nearby, and most of my pics. didn't turn out very well last year. BTW, when is the nesting/breeding season? Could you tell me when they usually lay eggs and rear their youngs? I'd love to learn more.
I will try to visit ejw. Lily you should be seeing nesting activity real soon...they may be beefing up the nest right now...up here we are about 2 weeks away yet from nesting activity to begin. They usually start in early Feb.
Oh Burd, how exciting that's! I'm going to look forward to get out there and watch activity at the nest. Thank you.

No problem Lily...I write little notes in my field guide with dates so I know when nesting starts or when certain birds will be coming through during migration. Have fun!
