What is your favorite morning glory picture of 2009?

East Bridgewater, MA

Pixie62560 has actually been a member of DG for a while, since I have been enjoying her postings over on the Northeast Gardening Forum; Maine gets colder temps (and usually more snow) than Massachusetts, so I admire those hearty souls up further north. After a long winter, they are "rewarded" with a week of biting black flies!

I just wanted to add that I visit the MG forum with absolutely no knowledge of their genetics, special names, etc.

I just love, love love the beauty of the flowers. Members needn't feel intimidated by a lack of knowledge about botany, and should feel free to post comments and photos.

Beauty is Beauty.

Boston your too sweet, thank you for the lovely compliment and you've been to Maine!! The Black Fly is our state bird, we grow em big enough to pick up a small dog. ^_^

Great photos!

That lovely blue-on-blue in the upper left corner is one I haven't seen; all MGs are great.

One of my favourite is this Ipomoea andersonii.

The dark pink eye really emphasises the beautiful soft pink bloom.

(Your cat Morris is gorgeous, too! Loved looking at his photos.)

That pink is a beauty!

Pixie - Nice collage you made! Lovely I. purpurea blooms ... ALL of them! :-) Glad to have another MG lover join us here! LOL! about the Black Fly. Are they anything like the horsefly? Those bite us here and are awful. Not sure what is worse ... horsefly or wasps. I dislike both!

Sylvia - Lovely photo of your Ipomoea andersonii! Do you grow that one indoors year round or does it go outside when the weather warms up?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

beautiful blooms Pixie, I love those i. purps alot.
I hate flys, can't imagine great big ones .. ugh!
Sylvia, that is a very nice andersonii.. I hope to grow one, I have not planted my seeds for those yet.
I used to have a very good net friend that lives in Maine, back in the good old Mirc chat days..

I hate horsefly but moosefly is worse, they float on you skin and they bite very quick you dont manage to beat it before you have bean biten.
Thanks for nice words of my andersonii. I let the caudex go dormant in september-october. And put it in my storage only in about +5 degree C the whole winter. And start water again in march-april. Yes I put i outside in the summer. It´s lovely
Thanks BostonArea: Yes flower is great but MORRIS is better, he is a lovely boy cat, he be 4 years coming fall/autumn.

Sylvia, gorgeous andersonnii and Rebecca.
Like your blooms too Pixie.

Sylvia - Lovely Rebecca vine! Very pretty! Is that an outside porch or an indoor sunroom? Looks like you have some nice supports for the vines to grow up and across!

I have grown a few and was wondering what type have the largest and showiest bloom!

East Bridgewater, MA

bluegrassmom-

The moonvine might qualify for your short list of biggest and showiest.

However, you probably meant one with color, so I'll leave that to Becky and the others.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

bluegrassmom - BostonArea is correct. I believe the Ipomoea Alba (Giant White Moonvine) blooms are probably some of the largest. But many others rival them. Many of the Japanese Ipomoea nils blooms are large and very beautiful. I grew one called Sazanami this past year and I was amazed at the size of the blooms!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I have had the moonvine and it is big and pretty. But I was looking for color. Do you have a few seeds to trade of Sazanami?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Heavenly Blue are the next biggest i've ever grown..........

bluegrassmom - I don't have any seeds left to share. I shared with a lot of folks the end of last year, but I am planning to grow out that one out again with the 2 seeds I have left. I hope to get more seeds from this grow-out, so keep an eye out here on the MG Forum to see what grows and blooms for me and remind me that you want some of those seeds later this year. Heavenly Blue, Blue Star, and Flying Saucers are tri-color species and usually produce some very nice sized blooms, too! All of those are typically sold at your big box stores in the seed section. :-)

Perhaps someone else here has some large blooming cultivar seeds?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

These blooms were almost 5 and a half inches and I have tons of these seeds if you want any, blue, just send a sase and I will get it back to you..

You guys are so nice! Yes, Debra I would like a few.

Becky the porch is next to the house and garden or how I say, we called it outside. But it have isolateplastic roof and glasswalls of window and doors. 30 squaremetre big. It is cold in the winter no heating. So I have to take all flowers inside. But my flowers grows and like it there in the summer.

Yes My Ipomoeas love it there.

You can see here, how we build the porsch, on my homepage:
