Garden Projects - 2010
Standard dwarf irises--Tillie (orange) Snugglebug (maroon) for early May
bought a larger rock saw blade today can't wait to try it out
Hope that it helps on the stems.
actually will allow much deeper cuts into the stone so they do not fall of the stems
good!
Keep those fingers off my pond rocks LOL
The gnome is Ric's the frog is mine a Mothers Day gift from my daughter.
I had no idea what a notorious area this was when I first bought my property. A city girl and not from the area. But I never had any problems, nice neighbors no crime if you don't count poaching. There are woods behind the house and a creek just down over the hill. A great place for the kids to explore and ride their ponies. This was taken right after we moved the rocks over it gives you an idea of how large they are. Holly
Nice area. The frog just makes the scene.
Jen your new enlarged garden bed sounds great. I am also looking forward to seeing how you progress.
lots of birds there too
Must be 10 robins on the lawn!!! And i too saw yellow on a finch's belly!!!!!!!
Pixie, great news, no Robins in Nantucket as of last Friday nor any here in Southern Vt yet either.
Flowerjen, love that color combo for your new garden bed. I agree with IrisMa that Iris would be lovely addition.
Yesterday we went to our favorite Maple Sugaring House for Waffles and to smell the new batch being made. Yummy stuff. That means spring for sure.
Then we went to Agway for our veggie seeds and I got some flower seeds, of course, too. But the real reason was to get 75 hardwood stakes for new cages for the new trees and shrubs. We need to replace some "Make Do" cages that have flimsy stakes that are next to useless, so not all for new stuff. Wish.
Dh is stopping in Littleton, Ma on his way back to Nantucket later this week to get 500 feet of plastic coated 3' rabbit fence to go around the bottom of all the deer fence, as the rabbits keep chewing thought the deer fence to eat our lilies and tulips and anything else they fancy. Grrrrrrrrr. We found this place online and they sell fencing out of a shed at nearly wholesale prices. We bought enough last summer to do just the veggie bed, but this year we are going to beat those bunnies and do it all!!!!
HollyAnnS, beautiful spot, great place to make moonshine. Love the gnome and frog, but I doubt that is enough to keep Wha away.
If any of your ears start burning soon, it is because I am off to spend the afternoon with Boojum. We will be taking DG for sure. She has lots of new orchids for me to see.
Enjoy today, as the weather is coming back in and it is suppose to be crappy for days and days. Patti
say hi to kathy for me patti - and let her know i just ordered some sib's from joe pye weed due to her! :) and they will let me pick them up which could lead to a larger problem :)
You are dead now Bill. I am counting the days when Gro-More opens 3/15
I will be there for mulch and compost so I can finish the extension to the woodswalk garden. I got it staked out bu 1 foot of snow for 2 months hasput that on hold, besides Gro-more was closed.
Its a garden center 6 minutes from me.
joann what do you mean i am ---- now?
Try and be strong. Chant a mantra as you walk thru the plants.
If you pick up in April, you'll have trouble although siberians not in bloom as yet. Their garden will just be starting then, but those bits are marvelous to see.
i was planning on late april for the pick up - need time to move another 20 yards of dirt to make one bed much larger and then some smaller expansions - so i have a place to plant them.
Ric and Holly - that's a beautiful collection of great stones, and I, too, love the gnome and the frog especially! Holly - is there a pond near the stones or is that a future project? Those stones would look great next to a pond.
Wow.....Patti - when the pancake houses start serving, you know Spring is here! How cool!
Celeste - winter's days are numbered with so many birds about! Yay!!!!
Glad your robins are back, Pixie---our vultures are back....they, too, are a sign of spring for us. Knew you couldn't resist those sibs, Bill---neither could I---I'm going to be in Harvard, MA in a few weeks---glad to know JPW's not opened yet. Jen---don't forget gold & maroon gaillardia & helenium. Jo Ann, glad I'm not near Gro-Mor's---love that place---my niece makes me go there!
i only ordered 5 so not too bad.
How about Pele, looks like both colors in it.

Thank you!
I just realized that I didn't post the pic. I wanted to post one that gave you a good idea of how big these rocks really are. That is our Son and GS in the pic our son is just over 6ft tall.
DonnieBrook, The answer to both questions is yes. There is a small pond with at birdbath there now and the rocks are for a future much larger pond later. I'll post more pics so you can see where it will all fit in.
The pond won't be started for several more years. It will go in this grassy area off the edge of the brick patio, more around to the left and curving around to the right. I can't do too much planting until we have the heavy equipment in to dig the pond and move rocks. So I make do with a few beds around the edges and a lot of annuals. You can just see the birdbath/pond behind the banana.
We have been talking about the pond for years and I was sure we were going to start it and then last year I decided I wanted to do the GH first. So I think 3 years to the pond is a reasonable estimate. While we wait the rocks look pretty good just laying there, last summer I planted of EE's around them and they looked pretty nice so this year I ordered more. The Birdbath Pond is pretty over grown in this pic and a bit hard to see but there is a pond basin that the birdbath sits in and water is pumped from the bottom of the basin up though the column of the birdbath and spills back into the pond basin. Holly
Neat ideas.
Holly ! Those are some rocks. It's a great plan. cant wait to see the progress.
Robindog! Gro-More used to have a reputation for common bedding plants and average perennials.
I lived too far away in those days to trade there.
Debilu mentioned some thing she bought there so I went to check out Pansies and was blown away with the perennial selection last year. I mentioned this to Debbilu and she said when Harris Seeds sold out their nursery stores, their perennial plant buyer was hired by GM. It sure made a difference. I have a speaking friendship with her and she will be looking into an astilbe I would like. She took out a list so I think they are into customer satisfaction. Wish I could see their whole list of plants on line this year.
On the other hand why create problems for myself,my list would just get longer.
I have not ordered much for shipment this year for that reason.
LOL---yeah, another website would do me in for sure---yes, their per. looked wonderful last year, but of course, it was Aug.---late in the season --when we were there. Holly & Ric, very cute GS! And your project will be a winner---you'll have a great selection of birds---are you planning on fish as well?
LUV the cutieputootie shrooms wha! I can't wait to see them in place. Holly & Rick those are SERIOUS boulders. I have not convinced my true luv about our SEVERE absense of SERIOUS boulders. Although methinks he might just be sick of laying patio stones. I shall show him your pic to motivate him. Thanks. Boojum that is the most pendulous spruce I have ever seen. Very funky weird. I like it!
hi dnut!!
hi missed you.
missed y'all too ^_^
Were you at the games?
Nope. I'm boycotting them cuz they ran out of red mittens.
(I won't mention the ice hockey slapdown. ^_^)
I don't watch the silly boys cuz our babes rock!!!
