Learning Smoke on the Water on the guitar. Have most of Brown Eyed Girl strum down.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I thought SOTW was the first thing to learn

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

One of the first. Most newbies just do the opening riff. I'm doing the whole thing.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

David was pretty good on the guitar, I miss it

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The guitar or David? ^_^

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I meant I miss the kids.
We are planning a weekend in Atlantic City with my sister Sue, and they'll take the bus up for the day.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I know - I was just teasing. I would miss them too. That's nice to have the weekend with them. NYC is more fun than AC though!

Very weird thing on the Bachelor, they had the preview for the show on Monday. One of the girls told Jake she's pregnant. I watched the show on hulu and that clip wasn't even in the show and he gave her a rose at the rose ceremony. What the????

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Bear is in Big Sky country tonight.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Theres a guy on Jeopardy with a six day winning streak! Lets see if he does it again....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I just saw an article which voices a concern I have had the past few days. Reporters covering the tragedy in Haiti are making themselves the story by 'saving' people, especially kids. Nothing at all wrong with helping people - in fact, it would be immoral and disgusting to ignore it. But why do it in front of the cameras?? Exploitation to better one's image, I say.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Victor, that was brought up on Oprah today. Wyclef was on and said the Haitian people asked for the reporters to decease with the "photo ops" that just make themselves look good. I have stopped watching most news about it. The coverage is so not productive.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good. I'm glad the word's getting out. I don't watch it either. I have seen the 'boasting' on the news websites.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Past catostrophe: I thought Anderson Cooper did help by bringing attention to Katrina and the problems there. Did you folks see that as helpful or self-promoting

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Oh, the new Pat Conroy novel I'm enjoying is South of Broad. He got his voice back. His last 2 books were, IMHO, all uninspired, recycled stuff

Anyone read John Irving's new book? He is another favorite who was in a rut.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Thanks Dave. South Of Broad going on list.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Bringing attention to some important thing that's being neglected is different than making yourself the story. They can just alert the professionals about someone in need of rescue, for example. They are better trained and equipped anyway. I am sure virtually every news crew can contact the authorities in a second.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I agree. They are reprehensible. It's like when they shove the mic in the face of someone who's entire family was just murdered and they ask"How do you feel?"

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh yes - that drives me crazy. The guy on 1010 WINS (all news radio in NYC) who interviewed me for my stickball game years ago, asked one of those questions and a family member spit right in his face.
