DAILY PICS VOL. #276

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Time to start a new thread. A lot of great photos on the previous thread, so if you wish to go back, here is the link.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1068951/

I have been out of action for the last month in that I did not take any photos. So, I apologize for having to dig into my archives. As some of you remember, several years ago, I had the experience of a lifetime with a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers. I will start this thread with a few of these photos.

Here is the male in an adjacent neighbor's yard. Over a two year period I took about 500 photos around my house. Since then, I barely see them.

I had a few rotten railroad ties which they enjoyed quite a bit. I actually sat on the ground several feet from him. He didn't seem to mind. He was busy .....

I said, "Watch the Birdie", and he looked up. Not really !!!

Here he is getting down to business .....

This is one of my favorite photos. They loved to sit on my cars.

He loved to look at his reflection ...... and peck. I did have a side view mirror broken around that time but uncertain whether or not they were responsible.

One more ..... I'm sure that you get the idea. It was my most exhilarating experience photographing birds. I even followed them back into the woods and got more photos as they were pecking away at ground level. But to have this experience two years in a row, in a residential suburban setting, has to be a once in a lifetime experience.

Saw a shadow pass over and was hoping it was my allusive hawk. But it was only a Turkey Vulture.

Love those woodpecker photos & fantastic to see them that close.

Still waiting for our goldfinches. Plenty of titmice on the feeder & occasional cardinal. Saw 2 female cardinals together but not as many as in past yrs. someone must be putting out better chow.

One of our resident Bald Eagles sat on "their" tree for a couple hours yesterday. If I'd have known he was staying that long, I'd have climbed down the hill for a closer photo.
