Quirks, idiosyncrasies, peculiarities

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Or whatever you'd like to call them.

Do you have any? In your home life, in your gardening habits?

I have a habit that when I empty the dishwasher I have to rotate the newly washed with what's in the cabinets or drawers. Newly washed silverware and dishes have to go under the ones already in the drawer or cabinet. Newly washed glasses or mugs have to go behind the ones already in the cabinet.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I seem to worse as I get older. One of my things is open cabinet or closet doors, drawers not quite closed or lights left on in a room when no one is in there bugs me like crazy. DH will go from back door through the house and turn on every light along the way and I will follow behind and shut most of them off. But I need a tv on in the house even if I am not watching it for the "company". Makes no sense at all but there it is.

Just thought of a garden related one. Can't stand a hose left uncoiled. Drives me crazy and of course the main reason this is even a question is DH just loves to leave the hose wherever he used it or all jumbled up in a heap. Just drives me nuts. I am not by any stretch a neat freak, but this is a thorn in my side.

weeds - they gotta go:)

outside of gardening i have one that drives my family and wife nuts - glue that gets up in between pages in a book - mostly paperback and some hard cover where folded pages meet the next section of folded pages (yes i know where to look) - i have to separate those pages, the more glue the better - i even peel out the glue with tweezers if given the time - still remember a 3rd grade math book that had plastic page inserts that was filled with the pages stuck together - going into a book store is dangerous to bindings:) good thing Bbrook the book store owner is on vacation:)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That's funny Bill. I never heard anyone doing that.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

ngam , LOL on the hoses, Holly would drive you nuts! I'm not sure she knows how to coil a hose. Most of the time I even drag them out for her to water. In high summer when we may water something daily her take is," I'm going to use it tomorrow," I get to return the favor though, when I'm in the kitchen working 50% of the cabinets and drawers are open, and if I'm going right back out, my hat and coat are on the chair, rather than hung up even though I have a coat hook 6' away. When we irritate each other with reminders, I just smile and say "Yes dear". Most of the time we smile and start over. LOL Ric

lol Ric

Hubby is the hose wrapper here (former fireman) I don't even bother trying anymore, he'll re- wrap it if I do it.

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

Quirky or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - I'm not sure which I am. Have you ever seen Sleeping With the Enemy ? That's me. I have to have every label turned toward the front. All my socks are lined up by style and color. All my clothes hang categorically and by color. Shoes are lined up the same way. My linen closet is arranged by type and color and everything is folded so they all match.

Shall I go on ? Probably not...lol...

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

WOW
I do have my clothes colorized and categorized, also.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm with ngam, I hate lights left on and cabinet doors left open. Even just a little bit.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Count me in, Lucy and Pat! Same here! I also hate it when the blinds on the windows aren't even, you know ....when one side is a tick higher than the other side. Drives me wild!! Hank has a habit of leaving things sticking part-way off a shelf. That makes me crazy too. We aren't too strange, are we????? Yeah.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I had to think about this one. It's my checkbook register. It MUST balance to the penny, it MUST be perfectly legible and ALWAYS written with the same pen. Black ink. I'm into even blinds also.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Okay bookkeeper here, all accounts have to balance to the penny, always. Same pen thing not so much. LOL W are a compulsive bunch aren't we.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You're probably going to faint....... I don't even balance my personnel account anymore.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

GASP!!.....^_^

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't either

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me either.....mostly in my head. Soooooo dangerous! LOL

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok time for me to fess up... I can't use the first piece of toilet paper in a public restroom ... always have to rip a piece off and toss it .. and using a bar of soap in public grosses me out.. can't help but think how many peoples hands have been on it.. I work out of my car so when there is a bar there.. I will use it and go out to the car and use a wipe... I am so happy when I see liquid dispensers .. and always happy when there are paper towels for drying.. can use it to open the bathroom door

but yet I can dig in the garden with bare hands

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Can't use a public restroom........has to be an emergency and it has to be a clean looking/smelling restroom!! Have to use a paper towel to open the door to leave the restroom and carry those handi-wipe singles in my purse. In my car is a good size bottle of hand sanitizer. I too do not wear gloves in the garden.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh nooooo! I have the vapors now, feel dizzy. People that trust a bank employee to encode the correct thing in the correct account. I need air. Seriuosly, it is even more dangerous now with auto debits and electronic transfers. Not to mention id theft. It really only takes five minutes and can save you a lot of time and money in the long run if you are a target.

Now as to public rest rooms:
I hate those hot air drier things. The auto flush also makes me nuts.

I do the same, Allison. The public and germs skeve me. I also close open doors and put out lights. I have to arrange the bills in my wallet. All right side up and starting with the ones in front.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, I do the same w/money.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

my wife does not balance her check book either - i do mine every other month

an old story when my wife was young and got her first checking account - she received a notice from the bank "complementing" her on writing an outstanding check:) According to my in-laws she proudly showed them the letter thinking the bank thought she had good penmanship. sometimes you can't make it up.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have not balanced a checkbook in 15 years - since I went to online banking. Electronic transfers and transactions are the way for me.

I will put the shirts that are similar together in the closet. My wife puts them anywhere!

No compulsions in the garden. I'm a lazy gardener.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny, Bill!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Too funny Bill!!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

LOL I never use the first piece of TP!! Only use the restroom in extreme emergencies. I hate riding the train...I keep thinking of all those people breathing out their germs. Of course I have none! I do balance my checkbook but my money is never in order. Nobody can share my drink!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

At my job, I made my technicians put all the screws in the horizontal position on the panels in the control room.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I said I didn't balance my check book, that doesn't mean I don't know what activity is occuring. I use on line banking and direct deposit and automatic payments.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Absolutely!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Wether you do it manually on paper or on-line you do need to check that all transactions are accurate and true. I know people who just trust the banks and stores to input the correct data and never check anything. It only takes one mess up to cost you a lot in fees and give you a big headache. Only takes a few minutes to check, specially with on-line banking. Best thing with that is you can check very often. Knew a collage kid that used atm all the time, smart kid, works at MIT now. Threw his receipts in the back seat of car and never looked at them again. Never could understand why he would come up short on his account every other thing. LOL His wife fixed that habit very quickly.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor, were there a lot of screws?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, there were. Funny how I'm very picky about some things, but not others. Guess it comes down to what you think is important and what makes things go smoothly for you.

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

victorgardener - You are so right ! I don't feel the need to scrub my kitchen floor until I stick to it, but those socks are all lined up - lol !

I agree with everyone about using public restrooms. I do the paper towel thing too.

What about grocery carts ! I use those wipes at the entrance to wipe off the handles and the seats. I keep Purel in my purse. And I wash my hands as soon as I get home - then I unload the groceries.

Speaking of grocery shopping - this bugs me no end - ever have a cashier with a cough or snotty nose ? Yuk ! They touch everything you purchase !

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

A waitress with a runny nose is the worst...totally lose my appetite!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

oh yeah how could i forget grocery store aisle blockers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I ran into an isle blocker yesterday! Very annoying woman who was clueless--at the end of every isle--I thought of you--LOL!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

they get one chance second time - to the moon...............

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Line jumpers and holders...grr!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - I was waiting for that, Bill!

Countrymom - yes, I use the wipes. And please call me Victor. In public restrooms I always keep the paper towel in my hand to open the door and use my shirt or jacket to open the stall door. Yuck!!
