This is a bad shot but you sure can see the yellow shaft!
DAILY PICS VOL. 275
Nanny, I think that's a really smart choice for you. My goodness, 20X zoom will be awesome.
Great shots everyone!
Met, Wonderful shots, love the Nuthatch!
GP, Love the Gnatcatcher!
Nanny, Adorable Titmouse!
Hack, Congratulations! Very nice first shots!
Nanny, Never get tired of Flickers!
Red, Neat! Looks very similar to the Peregrine, would love to see them some day!
Very nice photos everyone. I enjoy them all. Still cloudy but not raining yet today. Keep sending your photos so that we can all enjoy the wonderful birds.
Donna
Adel, great photo of the towhee.
Met, love that shot of the chicadee. They sure look like a sweet bird. That "oops" shot of the nuthatch is adorable! Great cardinal too-all of them look so fluffy in the cold.
Gp, beautiful one of the red-bellied, glad you're still seeing the buntings. Loved that one of the indigo too. Hope they all survived the hawk. That knatcatcher sure is interesting.
Nanny, had to smile at your little titmouse. So cute! Cute look on the cardinal. Pretty jay. Congrats on the new camera. Looking forward to your pictures.
Hack, great capture on the nuthatch. Love the cardinal. Those Pine Warblers are so pretty. You caught this one just right. Congrats on that new lens. Looks like it fits you great! Not sure I could handhold that biggie with the added weight already of my 7D.
Nanny, I never get tired of the flickers. Great job. I'm seeing at least 4 flickers here, but they won't sit still like they did in the fruit trees.
Red, that's a good photo of the falcon. I've only seen our Peregrine Falcons in the air.
These two Brewers Blackbirds were waiting for a chance to grab a nut.
Great pics Duc!
I went to Palmyra Nature Cove today. Met up with several other birders to look for the Spotted Towhee. No luck at all but I did get a new bird on my list a Fox Sparrow.
Pelle, congrats on the new Fox Sparrow. As a matter of fact, I just photographed my first one a couple days ago too.
Nanny, that's a beautiful jay!!
yay New bird!
Lurking and loving, but nothing to post.
Well, I spent the morning doing nothing and the afternoon at my wife's retirement celebration.
But one time I was sitting on my porch with the new Bigmos and saw a bird alight, way out yonder. I figured it's probably be a Sparrow of some sort or maybe a Pine Warbler.
Anyway, when I cropped it, I saw that it was a bird I had never seen before - boy, was I surprised.
It's my newest Lifer - I'd like to thank slobird and Resin for the ID.
It's a Yellow-rumped Warbler.
Here's the cropped pic.

I thought I'd give you a feel for how far out my new lens reached, here's the original photo. The Lifer was about 70-75 feet away from me.
I'm really happy with it. Still can't wait to get in my blind with it.
Now, I have to decide if I want to put my Canon 70-300 IS USM on Ebay, or just keep it. If I sell it, it would defray some of the cost of the Sigma 150-500. I'm afraid the Bigmos is gonna stay on the 40D and the 70-300 will get "rusty".

Hack, give your wife my congrats on her retirement. It's the best job I've ever had... just doesn't pay. My wife and I just returned from a 3-day birding trip. Saw untold thousands of waterfowl and added a few birds to our Life List. But the highlight of my trip was spotting a flock of 22 Mountain Bluebirds in OK. I've seen hundreds in the Rockies, but a first in my state.
reddirtretiree, thanks, I told my wife. She's a happy person! I retired two years ago after teaching science in high school for 30 years. I got bored doing nothing and now teach part-time in the Nursing Program at out local technical college (I was an Army medic in the 82nd Abd Div way back in the early 70's).
That photo you posted had a bunch of pretty Blue Birds. Shoot, I still looking to see my first BB of any type.

Congratulations Susan Louise and Hack!!
Nice one red!
Thanks pelletory :)
Great pics Burd! We finally have 4 American Tree Sparrows here....never had them before. Love how they hop around fast like the Juncos!
pelletory - thanks.
Burd_Fotos - The colors and sharpness of that female Red-winged Blackbird is out of this world. was that cowbird sitting on your shoulder? - that's close! Yep, I'm leaning toward keeping the 70-300 lens.
SusanLouise - congrats on your first Oregon Junco.
Hack
Hack, B-h CB was about 8 feet away on the ground, plus the pic is cropped. Thx SusanLouise.
redirtretree, Loved your tree and bluebirds. Wish I had a picture to post, but not tonight. It rained this afternoon, but at least not cold.
There are a couple of Song Sparrows that come to eat occasionally .
Last fall there were two probably a pair of Yellow Rumped Warblers spending time in my Downy Hawthorn, but they are long gone.
Donna
Wow! I'm trying to catch up on the thread and eveyone has posted some great photos at the end of last thread up until now.
Dave... from way back.... that Pileated Woodpecker photo was awesome! We have woods behind our apartments and I would love to see him!
Things were pretty quiet, but thanks to the Jensens (at least that's what the name on the mailbox said) I was treated to some activity. The Jensens live adjacent to the slough and feed the birds. One tree right on the road was loaded with American Tree Sparrows and White Crowned Sparrows that had just been to the feeders.
Boy these Tree Sparrows can make a lot of noise, but really cute noises.
SusanLouise, congrats on the pretty new bird!
Hack, another congrats on the warbler. Looks like you got the lens just in time! Congratulations to your wife on her retirement. I'd keep that smaller lens for a while, at least until the newness wears off the newer one.
Red, the bluebirds are beautiful. Congratulations on the new birds. Sounds like you had a great trip. Great one of the shrike too!
Burd, your photos are beautiful. Love that f. red-winged and the cowbird. The color on that jay is really a stand-out. Love those sparrows too! Nice work.
Mrs Ed, your eagle is beautiful. These birds really are magnificent. Love your sparrow shots too. The wind makes for great photos when it catches the feathers.
This isn't a very good photo, but this Purple Finch looked colorful in the picture.
