Gorgeous picture's and plant's Tropic. Thank you so much for sharing them and please don't stop;-)

Rita, so good to read that your weather is heading in a warming trend and it look's like your plant's dealt with all that cold very well. Lin, I think I heard you only have one more night to deal with the extremely cold temp's and then you can surely say good bye to that icey snowman and I hope he never return's in Florida!

Keaau, HI

Hawai'i has been in a drought for a few weeks now. Things are getting quite dry!

It is also flowering season for many plants.

Keep them coming for us Dave. I really like the bloom's on that Clerodendrum thomsoniae.

Dave, you don't want it raining on your flowering mangos.

Lin, I checked those links, it certainly looks like my plant.

Despite all the rain (it's torrential outside just now) the Dancing Ladies keep dancing on. Globba winitii 'Ruby Queen".

Hi Tropicbreeze, the drought is already causing a lot of Mangos to set fruit. Last year it wasn't the case.

After watching from the verandah for a while I decided to go out and brave the rain for a few interesting photos.

Had been planning on doing some slashing with the tractor this afternoon seeing the rain had eased off and there's been some sun. Now after this rain the tractor wheels would do more ploughing than the deck would do slashing.

There was 41 millimetres (1.61 inches) in less than half an hour, my driveway became a bit of a river.

Always wanted my garden to be like a rainforest, how close can you get?

Licuala wah (I'm sure this has been renamed but don't know to what). Each year it spends some time in a wet season enlarged dam. Doesn't really seem to harm it but would probably be better off higher up.

The main inflow into my dam, has a filter to reduce the amount of debris going in. This is where my Cyrtostachys renda, Lipstick Palm, was going to be if I had have finished that project before this wet season. Would have been standing in about a metre of water today. Oh well, next year's another year, it'll can be doing it then.

Outflow from the dam. Needs to be deepened and widened to stop the dam flooding parts of the garden during heavy rain.

Lovely pictures, thanks for posting.
37.6 at 3 am in Naples Florida...

And we're at 36.5 at 6.30 am. Even if we drop another degree before dawn I think we've made it through!

I see you're 15 hours behind us. You sure it's not you breathing heavily on the thermometer that's keeping the temperature up? ;O)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Hold that line Hetty! It is 28 here this morning.

Dave, great picture of the wave; you must have a really fast camera.

Here is my Eucalyptus 'Nana' in full bloom in these cold temps. The tree towers over my house now so I could not get close enough to get a good picture, my camera doesn't have the greatest zoom range. I wish I could see the flowers up close to determine if they have been damaged by the cold. I may take some binoculars out later and see what I can see.

Delray Beach was at 34F (1C) 45 minutes ago. So was Fort Lauderdale.

Sylvain.

I may be breathing on the thermometer but it's the outside sensor that is telling me the temperature... you didn't think I'd be OUT there did you? LOL

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I'm still going outside in my sandals and T-shirt. The only concession I'm making to this arctic wave is wearing jeans instead of shorts. Being a polar bear has its advantages.

Sylvain.

LOL, My Macho (AKA Giant Sword) fern. Some are not so macho.

I had to look up Eucalyptus 'Nana', hadn't heard of it. Apparently it's a dwarf form of Eucalyptus cladocalyx which comes from southern Flinders Ranges, Kangaroo Island and the Eyre Peninsula. It can get cold down that way so the tree's probably going to be able to cope with a little bit below freezing.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Poor thing has had to cope with a lot below freezing this week. :-(

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Yes, Sylvain, same temps here. However, this frail little old lady is dressed like Nanook of the North.

Hap

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Dressed like Nanook of the North, eh? Well, it must remind you of Rochester, with the noticeable difference that you don't have to bake imaginary cookies in an oven preheated at 500F for 2 hours with the door ajar. Keep warm. The end is in sight. Temps are forecasted to go up a bit every day of this week.

I'm off to make myself a cup of sugarless hot cocoa.
Sylvain.

(Zone 1)

It's still 34ºF here in Daytona Beach but it is warming up. Weather reports said we were going to be down to (another record breaker) 23º last night but I checked a couple of times during the night and never saw it go below 31. Warmer weather is on the way ... finally! It's supposed to be back to mid 70's daytime and low 50's nights by the end of the week! I am going out to uncover and survey some of the damage today.

Tropic: Thanks for offering a bit of warmth with the photo's of your lovely garden and surrounding area. You sure are getting a lot of rain ... wish you could send a bit this way as we are extremely dry, especially after such freezing temp's. We now have fire watches in effect again and I'm hoping we get rain later this week. I love that Alocasia reginula, really pretty.

prita: Love that blooming Allamanda! Mine unfortunately was a victim of the freezing temp's I'm sure. That Cordyline is lovely ... you should add that picture to PF: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/104706/

Dave: Great photo's of the raindrops. I love the reflections. Now ... that wave photo is really Awesome! How did you shoot that one? It should be in the photo contest next year!

ardisia: We have those Sword ferns all over the place, sometimes growing and spreading where we don't want them. Is your Eucalyptus cladocalyx 'Nana' blooming earlier than normal? I hope this unusually cold weather is done for a long while.

Have a great day everyone!

noonamah, Australia

Goodnight all, I'm going to bed. :O)
