Metro, gorgeous blooms, but since when are there glaciers in HI? Wow that's some serious global warming issues LOL. Or does that have to due with magnetic polar reversal progression?LOL

Tropical Garden #61
Love the orchids!
3jsmom: Wow, look at all that snow! I heard y'all are going to have single digit temp's this weekend! We are predicted to get Rain, Sleet and SNOW here in Daytona Beach Florida, from 7a.m to 11 a.m Saturday! Now, that will make headlines!
Ok Dave ... I know that's not Hawaii, so where is all that ice and snow in your photo?
This is such a learning garden! I would never have thought there would be snow anywhere in Hawaii but had to google Mauna Kea and see it means "White Mountain" in the Hawaiian language ... not uncommon for snow in the winter! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauna_Kea
Love the Bismarkia. My next door neighbors planted a little one in their front yard six or seven years ago and it didn't survive.
Oh man, look at that bloom ... how cool! I've never seen a D. fragrans compacta bloom before!
Dave, is it this one? IF so, we need that photo in Plant Files! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/56851/
Yes Lin, the PF plants are the 'Compacta' cultivar, although 'Janet Craig' and 'Compacta' are two different cultivars.
Dave, this part of Florida doesn't usually get real cold ... there are rare occasions when we have frost but this month has been extremely cold where we've had record breaking low temp's! Here where I live, we've had 3 consecutive nights with temp's of 28ºF!! News reports are saying Rain, Sleet and Snow are possible on Saturday morning for our area! Yikes ... SNOW in Central Florida!
It's 39º out right now and we are under hard freeze warnings again tonight, with below freezing temperatures expected to last 7-12 hours. The landscape is going to take a huge hit like it did after the Hurrricane's of 2004. Usually when things are hit by frost they will re-sprout as soon as the weather warms up but I know many things won't survive this extended cold. I've lived in the state almost 43 years and we've had frost and a rare freeze, but nothing like this with such extremely low temperatures lasting for so long. A few days this week the temperature never made it to 50º and there's another cold front heading this way over the weekend with more low temp's in the forecast for next week.
My sister and her family live in South Florida where it rarely gets below 55º at night yet this week they've had nights in the mid 30's. It's really bad when the Iguana's start falling out of the trees! Here's a news video: http://www.justnews.com/video/22153242/index.html
My D. marginata Tricolor will probably be frozen completely by next weekend ... I should dig it up tomorrow and containerize it until spring!
I almost caught the flu when we went from tropical to snow and ice all of a sudden. !!!!!
WOW I watched the video of the iguanas and couldn't believe my eyes. Poor things, I heard they are a nusance to some, eating the vegitation and some wants to know how to get rid of them but that is awful to just freeze and fall out of the trees as you walk by. WOW.
Love the photos too by the way.
huh? No way... they are freezing? awwww...
The Iguana's don't actually freeze to death (unless they are weak or sick.) When the temperatures drop real low like that, they go into a torpor like state and stay that way until the temp's warm up, then they come to life again! Those creatures are not native to Florida but apparently like so many other critters, they were originally pets that were let loose in the wild when humans got tired of them! Geesh, has so many non native animals, Pythons, Iguanas, Monitor Lizards, Cuban Tree Frogs ...
Wow, that rose bush is really nice!
Rachel: Love that photo! I love sunrises and sunsets but my favorite time of day for some reason is sunrise.
Dave, Love that container those beautiful roses are in, very pretty and it shows them off nicely!
Rachael, are those birds your pets or do they fly free out there?
They sure are pretty. I love the white one.
I like the peacock's too Mekos and there are some farm's around here who have them. The picture I posted was taken in Florida. Here is another one.
Debra, so good to hear thing's are going well with you and your plant's. It's COLD here too but heck I think it is just about most everywhere in the U.S. Dave sure is helping us out with his photo's from Hawai'i though, it's alway's nice weather there;-)
OH MY, that is breathtakingly beautiful.
Nice critter Rachel!
Beautiful peafowl ... where in Florida was that photo taken? We used to vacation on Longboat Key (Sarasota area) every summer and there is one neighborhood that has peafowl all over the place. Folks don't much like them, say they make a mess, but they sure are beautiful and it's very cool seeing them walking down the roads.
Dave, that last shot of the China Rose is gorgeous ... love the lighting/shadows in that shot! ... Now, that's my kinda rose, no thorns! Is it fragrant? Guess I should go google and read about it! ^_^
Some people around here do not care for the peafowl either due to their call (too loud) but it never did bother me. Those picture's were taken in Saint Augustine FL. in which I do visit atleast twice a year. I really enjoy that old city but I have to say it's been a while since I have been to Longboat Key.
