I think it's the appearance, not the fallacy about actual tears.
Words and Language
I do editing/proofreading for a PhD student who is from Colombia. You really get a sense of how weird and difficult English is for non-English speaking people.
now when somebody is really ripped (muscle wise) they'll say he's just shredded
Every language has its slang.
I always thought "ripped" came from "rippled", when we're talking about muscles.
I occasionally read the dictionary for fun. When DS was little, I spent extra on a fancy dictionary. I'm so glad I did. He'll sit reading it for hours.
I love many of the words and expressions I hear on the Britcoms.
i can sit and listen to a beautiful women with an english accent all day - never forget my first visit to hong kong on biz - checking in at a 5 star hotel, i was brought to a private table and this tall, young, attractive, chinese women is sitting across the table to check me in - she spoke with a perfect proper english accent - i was in such a trance i would have answered any question she asked - not that it left an impression on me:)
I can listen to beautiful woman with any accent. ^_^
Bill, what did you think about Lila on Dexter?
Didn't know there were that many words...
Only accent I have trouble understanding it that deep south Arkansas drawl like in the bijou, boy that's hard to understand, even when they know you cant understand them and they talk slowwww for your sake (lol)
Hee hee. I like the way people in the South say 'fixing' to mean getting ready. 'I was just fixing to leave'.
I say 'fixin too, picked it up from Fla, Ma'am is another one, Yes ma'am, right this way ma'am, No Ma'am, (people in NY get insulted if you call them Ma'am) lol!
I love Russian accents and French Canadian accents. If you liked Romeo LeBeau's name, you should have heard his accent!
We had a little Jewish lady for a neighbor who, when asked what she was making for dinner, would say, "I'm putting up a chicken".
One day I asked her, "Where are you going to put it ? "
Thats interesting Jasper. I wonder where that expression came from. We also had an elderly Jewish lady that lived next door. She would come over and visit and one of her favorite sayings was "you're off the beam"! As a kid, I took it to mean something like 'you so crazy" , in a nice way.
I
Funny Harper - Lila was hot - would not have hurt her to eat a couple cheeseburgers though - a tad possessive i think:)
It's an Irish accent, I'd prefer to be hearin'. I'm fond of words and usage, some of the Dutch expressions heard around these parts are rather interesting: Throw the horse over the fence some hay, come with me along, I'll just have a pop, and it's all. All what? All white? All wet? Sorry, all gone. LOL Ric
How about " took and take". I "took" and plugged it in. Then you "take" and cook it for 3 hours. Heard this on a cooking show the other day. I think its regional.
Holly I have family from that area, when they came to visit we never knew what the heck they were saying! "outten the light" huh??
I had loved that email too ..and still think it's creative, but it's not true. I checked on word origins and that email seems to be one of their biggest frustration.
Do beautiful women need an accent to entrance men? Probably don't need to speak.
That's why I said any accent will do (or none)!!
for me an english accent put's them over the top
Even cockney?
hi jen - no proper english
lucky victor isn't lurking:)
If the lady looks that good I don't notice any accent! lol!

I like lots of accents - French, Italian and some Spanish. German and Greek languages are ugly to me. Greeks always sound like they're about to spit!
I like German accents, they sound kinky! lol!
I just read a new (to me) word today on-line - "slacktivism". It refers to virtual activism that has no real or visible results. Thought it was kind of a cool word.
Maybe it would sound even better if said by someone with an accent...
:)
greeks do spit!! i have witnessed a x-bil at age 50 spit in the face of my late x FIL years ago - and my x has done it to me - talk about having to leave the house before committing bodily harm - they can vicious people
Yeah, a few cheeseburgers... you're right. She sure was possessive. She got hers, though!
I used to have a lisp as a kid. I dreaded saying '66'!
here's that word "product" encroaching into the gardening world. Well, at least the didn't print "prod". From the Van Bourgodien catalog.
Voss, I saw that exact catalog cover today and was just as intrigued: are they selling hair-care items inside? LOL
That doesn't bother me as much as 'cheese food'!!

Many brands. The slices are often called 'food.'
